There are two different Soulmask systems that players call the cross-server portal. On eligible official PvP servers, the portal is above a Pyramid and connects you to servers in the same region or war zone. Shifting Sands uses a portal terminal at the mysterious island, but it requires two linked servers, the Shifting Sands DLC and a character that is not the first one created. Use the instructions for the system you actually have; a normal Teleporter or Mysterious Portal is not automatically a cross-server portal.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Soulmask servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Which Soulmask cross-server system are you trying to use?
The phrase “cross-server portal” covers two separate features with different locations, requirements and transfer rules. The first is the original official PvP server-travel feature announced on June 20, 2024. The second is the Shifting Sands cross-map arrangement documented for dedicated servers. They should not be treated as two names for one portal.

A location index for Soulmask separates “Cross-Map Portal” from ordinary “Teleporters” and “Mysterious Portals” and lists two cross-map locations. That confirms the cross-map entries are their own category, but it does not turn every portal icon into a server gateway or provide a universal coordinate for every server configuration.
Where is the original PvP cross-server portal?
Find a Pyramid first
On an eligible official PvP server, look for the portal positioned above a Pyramid. This is the location stated in Soulmask’s June 20, 2024 Steam announcement: players on enabled servers can teleport to other servers in the same region or the same war zone through the portal above Pyramid.
#1 Best Overall
The feature was initially enabled for PvP servers released during the first week of Early Access. Soulmask said additional servers would be enabled in batches according to release time, so seeing a Pyramid does not prove that its server is currently eligible. A portal that is missing, inactive or offers no destinations can indicate server eligibility rather than a navigation mistake.
Open the destination list
Community instructions published in June 2024 describe interacting with the portal using the E key and then choosing a destination in an available-server window. Those instructions quote official Discord material and describe the implementation at that time; they are useful operational guidance, not a guarantee that every later build uses the same prompt, menu or transfer sequence.

The destination list is constrained. The original announcement refers to servers in the same region or war zone, while the community guidance describes official PvP servers in the same group. Therefore, a server elsewhere in the world, in another war zone or outside the enabled group may not appear even when it is online.
What happens to the character?
The early community instructions describe the player using an NPC for the transfer rather than moving the main character directly through the portal object. Because this detail comes from the first implementation and not a universal current specification, check the prompt and confirmation screen in your game version before committing. Do not assume that a portal above a Pyramid guarantees unrestricted movement of every character, item, base or progression state.
How to use the PvP portal safely
- Confirm that you are on an official PvP server, not a PvE server or an unrelated private configuration.
- Check that your server belongs to an enabled release batch and that the intended destination is in the same permitted region, war zone or group.
- Travel to the Pyramid and inspect the portal above it. If no interaction prompt appears, verify that you are at the portal itself rather than a nearby ordinary fast-travel object.
- Press E when the interaction prompt is available, then review the available-server window.
- Read the destination and confirmation details carefully. The community guidance for the original version describes an NPC-mediated transfer, so follow the NPC prompt if your build presents one.
- If the target server is absent, record the server names and eligibility information before assuming the portal is broken. A missing destination is commonly a grouping or rollout limitation.
The available evidence does not establish one universal rule for inventory, buildings, save overwrites or main-character progression across all PvP portal versions. Treat any warning shown by your server as authoritative for that installation, and avoid relying on rules from a different release or server cluster.
How Shifting Sands cross-map travel works
Shifting Sands is not a single-server switch that administrators turn on after installing a map. The documented arrangement uses two Soulmask servers: one server hosts the main Cloud Mist Forest map and the other hosts Shifting Sands. The two servers communicate as a linked pair, and players move between them through the in-game portal terminal.
Requirements before you configure anything
- Run two server instances, one for each map.
- Use server ID 1 for the main server and server ID 2 for the client server in the documented arrangement.
- Make sure every player who needs access owns the Shifting Sands DLC.
- Set the Shifting Sands server’s map selection to
DLC_Level01_Main. - Enable cross-server operation with
KaiQiKuaFu=1on both servers. - Provide the main-server broadcast value and configure the client server with the main server’s connection address, as required by the dedicated-server guide.
These are cluster-level settings. Installing the DLC on a client or enabling a single flag on one server is not enough if the second server is absent, misidentified or unable to connect.
Configure the two-server cluster
- Designate the Cloud Mist Forest instance as the main server and assign it server ID 1.
- Designate the Shifting Sands instance as the client server and assign it server ID 2.
- On the Shifting Sands instance, choose
DLC_Level01_Mainas the map or level value specified by the setup guide. - Set
KaiQiKuaFu=1on both server configurations. A value on only one side leaves the pair inconsistently configured. - Set the main-server broadcast value so the client can discover or advertise the main endpoint.
- Enter the main server’s connection address in the client-server configuration. Use the address reachable by the client server, not merely a local address that works from the administrator’s own machine.
- Start the main server first. Once it is accepting connections, start the Shifting Sands client server.
- When shutting down, stop the client server first and the main server last. The dedicated-server documentation specifically warns that starting or stopping them in the wrong order can produce connection errors.
Enter Shifting Sands in game
Once both servers are running and linked, travel to the mysterious island on the in-game map. Use the portal terminal there to select the other map. This terminal is the player-facing gateway; the server IDs, level selection and KaiQiKuaFu setting only make the connection possible.
The documented rule is explicit: only characters that are not the first-created character can transfer between servers. If the terminal is available but your first-created character is rejected, that is an eligibility restriction in this setup, not evidence that the terminal is at the wrong island.

The portal is missing at the Pyramid
- You may be on a server that was not included in the original PvP rollout or a later enabled batch.
- The server may not be an official PvP server covered by the feature.
- You may be looking at an ordinary teleporter or landmark rather than the portal above the Pyramid.
Check the server’s release and grouping information first. Soulmask’s announcement describes staged enablement, so portal availability is not guaranteed solely by the age of the game or the presence of a Pyramid.
The PvP destination list is empty
- The intended server may be outside your region or war zone.
- The servers may not share the group used by the original implementation.
- The destination may not yet be enabled, even if it is online.
Try another known server in the same permitted group. If only out-of-region servers are absent, the restriction is working as designed rather than indicating a local client failure.
The Shifting Sands terminal does nothing
- Confirm that both server processes are online and that the main server was started first.
- Check server IDs: the documented main/client pairing is 1 and 2.
- Verify
KaiQiKuaFu=1on both servers, not just the Shifting Sands instance. - Confirm that the client points to the main server’s reachable connection address and that the main-server broadcast value is configured.
- Check that the Shifting Sands instance uses
DLC_Level01_Main. - Make sure the player owns the Shifting Sands DLC.
The server throws a connection error after restart
Stop both instances, start the main server and wait for it to become ready, then start the Shifting Sands client. On shutdown, reverse that order: stop the client first and the main server last. This order is a documented operational requirement for avoiding connection problems.
The character cannot transfer
For Shifting Sands, test with a character other than the first one created on the server. The setup guide excludes the first-created character. For the older PvP system, do not apply that rule automatically: the available community instructions describe a different, NPC-based implementation and do not establish a universal character-transfer policy for every later version.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat “cross-server” does not tell you
The label alone does not answer whether your inventory, buildings, storage, quest state or progression will be copied, merged or overwritten. The available documentation does not establish one rule covering both portal systems. Those mechanics can depend on the game version and the specific server architecture, so read the confirmation dialog and the administrator’s rules for the exact cluster before moving a character you cannot afford to lose.
Likewise, ordinary Teleporters and Mysterious Portals should not be used as substitutes. The location index treats them as separate categories from Cross-Map Portal locations. A normal fast-travel interaction can move you within a map without creating a connection to another server.
Quick decision checklist
- Want another official PvP server? Go to the portal above a Pyramid and look for an eligible destination in the same region, war zone or server group.
- Want the Shifting Sands map? Confirm a two-server setup, DLC ownership, IDs 1 and 2,
DLC_Level01_Main,KaiQiKuaFu=1on both servers and a working main-to-client connection; then use the terminal at the mysterious island. - Using the first-created character? The documented Shifting Sands setup does not allow that character to transfer.
- Seeing an ordinary Teleporter? It is not evidence that a cross-server route is available.
The practical answer is therefore location-specific: Pyramid for the original PvP server portal; mysterious island for Shifting Sands. Eligibility and server configuration determine whether either portal can actually complete a transfer.
