The couple described a small, relaxed day with Harris’s children involved. The children ran around the property and picked flowers, with Sloane holding them. Bush recalled that the family roasted marshmallows on the wedding night.

Why did they keep the wedding private?
Bush and Harris said they visited friends and family around the country to tell them about the marriage in person before announcing it publicly. They did not share a more specific explanation for waiting to make the news public.

Bush said she wanted to stop referring to Harris as her “partner” in interviews when Harris was her wife. “You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife. And it feels so amazing to say that,” she said.
Harris also said visibility matters to young people who do not feel seen. “If we make room and space for one person, that’s worth maybe costing us a little bit of peace in the public eye,” she told Vogue.

The Vogue interview includes an excerpt adapted from Bush’s forthcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress. Flatiron Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, has scheduled the book for publication on October 27, 2026; the date is subject to change.
