Choose the Sony WH-1000XM5 for a more premium, detailed presentation and stronger overall noise-control system; the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) when long-wear comfort and noise cancellation matter most; or the Soundcore Space Q45 when you want long ANC battery life and LDAC at a lower tier. The WH-CH730N remains unusually light at approximately 207 g and Sony rates it for up to 50 hours with noise cancelling enabled or 75 hours with it disabled, so no replacement wins every category.
This guide separates manufacturer claims from preference-based advice. Battery numbers are not directly interchangeable unless the test mode and volume are the same, and sound, ear-cup comfort and microphone quality depend on fit, hearing and environment.

What the Sony WH-CH730N already gets right
The WH-CH730N is a lightweight, over-ear wireless ANC headphone. Sony lists an approximate 207 g weight, multipoint connection, AAC, SBC and LC3 codec support, and a detachable stereo-mini-jack cable. Its current specification claims up to 50 hours of music playback with noise cancelling on and up to 75 hours with noise cancelling off. Those are manufacturer figures rather than a controlled cross-brand test.

That combination makes the WH-CH730N a difficult headphone to replace purely for endurance or weight. An alternative has to offer a clear improvement in a specific area—sound refinement, noise reduction, comfort for your head and ears, or wireless features—without assuming that a heavier premium model will suit everyone better.

Which headphones sound better than the WH-CH730N?
“Better” sound is a preference question, not a universal ranking. The WH-CH730N alternative to choose depends on whether you want a warmer bass emphasis, clearer vocals, a wider presentation or more control over equalisation. No shared listening test establishes a single objective winner, so treat the following as decision guidance rather than a blanket verdict.
Sony WH-1000XM5: the same-brand sound upgrade
The WH-1000XM5 is the most logical step if you like Sony’s app ecosystem and general tuning but want a more premium model. It is positioned as the sound and ANC upgrade in Sony’s range. Pick it when refinement, separation and an elevated overall presentation matter more than matching the WH-CH730N’s very long battery claim.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Its trade-off is endurance: Sony rates it for 30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off, materially below the WH-CH730N’s 50- and 75-hour claims. That shorter figure may be acceptable if you recharge regularly or value the premium processing more than multi-day battery life.
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen): listenable, low-fatigue presentation
Bose is the stronger candidate when the sound you want is easy to live with for long sessions rather than aggressively analytical. Comfort and ANC are the reasons to investigate this model first. Bose’s September 10, 2025 announcement says it provides up to 30 hours with ANC, 23 hours with Immersive Audio enabled and 45 hours with ANC turned off.

- ULTRA-COMFORTABLE: Lightweight design with soft fit leather.
Those modes matter: Immersive Audio changes the operating condition, so its 23-hour figure should not be compared with a competitor’s standard ANC claim. If you do not use that feature, the 30-hour ANC figure is the relevant comparison.
Soundcore Space Q45: EQ-friendly value alternative
The Space Q45 is aimed at listeners who want a long-running ANC headphone and LDAC support. LDAC can be useful with compatible Android devices and lossless-capable source files, although the audible benefit depends on the recording, connection conditions and your hearing. Its 292 g weight is substantially higher than the WH-CH730N’s approximately 207 g, so sound and battery gains come with a clear portability and comfort trade-off.

Sennheiser Accentum Plus and Nothing Headphone (a)
TechRadar’s WH-CH730N review coverage identifies the Sennheiser Accentum Plus and Nothing Headphone (a) as current competitors. They are sensible models to add to a store shortlist, but the cited coverage does not establish comparable battery, weight, codec, ANC, microphone, price or warranty figures. Do not choose either solely on a headline comparison until you verify the current regional specification.
Which alternative has longer battery life?
On the published claims, the WH-CH730N itself has the highest ANC-off figure: up to 75 hours. The Space Q45 is the closest endurance-focused replacement, with 50 hours of ANC use at 60% volume and up to 65 hours in normal mode. Its ANC-on claim matches the WH-CH730N’s 50-hour ANC figure, but the test condition is explicitly 60% volume, so the numbers are not identical experiments.
| Use case | WH-CH730N | WH-1000XM5 | Bose QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) | Space Q45 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Noise cancelling enabled | Up to 50 hours | 30 hours | 30 hours | 50 hours at 60% volume |
| Noise cancelling disabled / normal mode | Up to 75 hours | 40 hours | 45 hours with ANC off | Up to 65 hours in normal mode |
| Special mode | Not stated | Not stated | 23 hours with Immersive Audio, according to Bose’s September 10, 2025 release | Not stated |
For travel, compare the ANC-on row because ANC is normally active on aircraft and trains. For office or home listening with ANC disabled, use the second row. A phone at high volume, frequent calls, cold weather and wireless interference can all reduce real-world runtime; none of the cited manufacturers promises that every user will reach the maximum.

Which headphones are more comfortable than the WH-CH730N?
There is no universal comfort winner because clamp force, head width, glasses, hair, ear size and heat tolerance change the result. The WH-CH730N’s approximately 207 g weight is a major advantage for people sensitive to neck fatigue. Sony describes its lightweight headband as securing stable long-listening comfort at that weight.

When Bose is the better comfort bet
Start with the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) if your main problem is pressure, seal or long-session fatigue. Bose markets this model around ANC and comfort, and the longer 45-hour ANC-off claim supports multi-day use. However, the cited material does not provide a comparable weight or pad dimension, so check the fit in a returnable purchase window rather than assuming that a premium price guarantees comfort.
When the lighter Sony remains preferable
If your neck tires before your ears do, moving from approximately 207 g to a heavier alternative may be a step backward. Choose the WH-CH730N—or another model only after checking its measured weight—when portability and low mass are more important than maximum isolation or premium processing.
When Space Q45 weight is a deal-breaker
At 292 g, Space Q45 adds roughly 85 g over the WH-CH730N. That may be worthwhile for its long ANC runtime and LDAC, but it is the least obvious choice for someone already satisfied with the Sony’s light fit. Try it with your glasses and for at least an hour before deciding.
Noise cancellation: what to prioritize
Choose the Bose model first if your priority is reducing continuous transport or office noise and maintaining comfort. Choose the WH-1000XM5 if you want a premium Sony upgrade that balances sound and ANC. Choose Space Q45 if you want extended ANC operation and are willing to accept its higher weight.

ANC performance also depends on the seal. Glasses, hair and shallow ear-cup contact can let low-frequency sound leak around the pads, making a technically strong system seem weak. Test each headphone with the same train recording, aircraft cabin noise or office hum, and compare at a safe volume. Do not judge isolation from a single short demo track.
Codecs, multipoint and wired listening
The WH-CH730N explicitly supports AAC, SBC and LC3, multipoint and a detachable stereo-mini-jack cable. Those features cover common iPhone, Android and computer use while preserving a wired fallback.
Space Q45 adds LDAC support, which is the key codec distinction established for the alternatives. Bose’s cited material specifies Bluetooth 5.4 multipoint for the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). The cited WH-1000XM5 information does not establish a codec list or multipoint behavior in this comparison, so verify the regional product page before buying for a particular phone-and-laptop workflow.
| Feature | WH-CH730N | WH-1000XM5 | Bose QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) | Space Q45 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multipoint | Yes | Not stated in cited specification | Yes; Bluetooth 5.4 multipoint | Not stated in cited specification |

If wired operation is essential for an in-flight entertainment system, mixer or low-latency gaming setup, confirm that the replacement includes the required cable and can play without battery power. The WH-CH730N’s cited specification confirms this option; the comparison sources do not establish it for every alternative.
Microphones, calls, portability and warranty
The available specifications do not provide a shared microphone test, folding dimensions, case details, current regional price or warranty terms for these models. Do not infer call quality from ANC claims, and do not treat a lower shelf price as better value without checking the local warranty and return policy.

For portability, measure the packed headphone, case and cable together. A lighter headphone can still occupy more bag space, while a heavier model may fold more compactly. For calls, test in the exact places you use them—quiet room, street and a windy commute—and ask the other caller whether your voice remains clear.
How to choose in five decisions
- Set the main upgrade. Select sound refinement, ANC, comfort, battery or codec support. If you cannot name one, the WH-CH730N may already be the most balanced choice.
- Decide whether ANC will normally be on. Use ANC-on claims for commuting and ANC-off claims for home listening; never mix the rows.
- Set a weight ceiling. The WH-CH730N is approximately 207 g; Space Q45 is 292 g. If you are sensitive to neck load, eliminate models above your limit before listening.
- Check your source devices. Confirm multipoint behavior, phone compatibility and whether LDAC is available on your phone before paying for a codec you cannot use.
- Buy where fit can be returned. Wear the headphone with glasses for an hour, test your normal music and calls, and compare isolation at a safe volume.
Which model should each reader buy?
Choose WH-1000XM5 if you want a premium Sony step-up
It is the focused choice for listeners who value Sony’s higher-end sound and ANC treatment and accept 30 hours of ANC battery life. It is not the choice for maximum endurance.
Choose Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) for ANC and comfort
Pick it when long sessions, noise reduction and the option of Bluetooth 5.4 multipoint outweigh the shorter 30-hour ANC claim. Remember that Immersive Audio reduces Bose’s stated playback figure to 23 hours.
Choose Soundcore Space Q45 for battery and LDAC
Pick it when 50 hours of ANC use at 60% volume, up to 65 hours in normal mode and LDAC matter more than low weight. Its 292 g construction is the principal compromise.
Keep the WH-CH730N when lightness and endurance win
Keep your Sony if approximately 207 g, 50 hours with ANC on, 75 hours with ANC off, multipoint and wired operation already satisfy your routine. Replacing it only makes sense when a specific weakness affects you every day.
Practical testing checklist before returning your old headphone
- Charge both headphones fully and record the starting time, ANC state and volume.
- Use the same playlist, phone and connection distance for each model.
- Test ANC on a steady low-frequency noise and on voices; these are different challenges.
- Wear each model for at least 60 minutes, including with glasses if you use them.
- Make a call in a quiet room and outdoors, then ask the other person about clarity.
- Try multipoint by playing audio from one device and answering a call or starting playback on the second.
- Test the supplied or required cable with the battery low, if wired listening is important.
- Check the return deadline, local warranty and current price in your country before finalizing the purchase.
