As reported on 6 October 2026, Amazon UK had the five-star Sony WH-1000XM5 for £192 and the newer WH-1000XM6 for £319 during October Amazon Big Deal Days, also known as Prime Day 2. The XM5 is the stronger value pick at that price; choose the XM6 if its reviewed improvements in sound and noise cancelling are worth paying £127 more.
What are the reported Amazon UK prices?
What Hi-Fi? reported the Sony WH-1000XM5 at £192, against a stated usual retail price of £380, and the Sony WH-1000XM6 at £319, against a stated usual retail price of £399, on 6 October 2026. Those are report-date prices, not a guarantee of what Amazon will charge when you read this.

The apparent price gap is £127, calculated from those two reported offers. TechRadar also reported the XM5 at £192 on 5 October, but listed a different reference price: £279 rather than What Hi-Fi?’s £380. Because the comparison price differs, do not treat either stated saving as settled without checking the live listing and price history.

Is the XM5 the better buy at £192?
If keeping the cost down is your priority, the reported XM5 offer is the straightforward choice. What Hi-Fi? gives both models five stars and describes the XM5 as a strong combination of sound, features and comfort at a sub-£200 price. It is the older model, but its reported price is substantially below the XM6’s.

The XM5 weighs approximately 250 g, according to Sony UK. Sony lists up to 30 hours of continuous music playback with noise cancelling on, or up to 40 hours with it off. These are manufacturer maximum figures, not promises of everyday battery life. Sony also lists SBC, AAC and LDAC Bluetooth audio support.
What does the XM6 add for £127 more?
What Hi-Fi? says the XM6 improves on the XM5 in sound detail, dynamics and openness, and rates its noise cancelling as better. These are the publication’s review judgments, not comparative laboratory measurements. Staff writer Harry McKerrell summed up the outlet’s view: “Both pairs are a joy to listen to, but if you want the best wireless sound that Sony has to offer, it’s the WH-1000XM6 every day of the week.”

Sony describes the XM6 as using its QN3 noise-cancelling processor and an adaptive 12-microphone system. The manufacturer also lists up to 30 hours of music playback with noise cancelling on. Its XM6 regional specification page for Singapore lists Bluetooth 5.3; that is a Singapore specification, not a UK-specific confirmation.
The XM6 folds away, which may matter if you regularly pack your headphones. That does not by itself establish how its case compares in size with the XM5’s, so check the included-case details if bag space is decisive.

How should you choose between them?
- Choose the XM5 if the lower reported price matters most and you want a highly rated Sony over-ear wireless headphone without paying the XM6 premium.
- Consider the XM6 if you value the newer model’s reviewed sound and noise-cancelling improvements, plus its foldable design, enough to justify the reported £127 difference.
Both are five-star picks in What Hi-Fi?’s assessment, but that does not make them interchangeable purchases: the decision is whether the XM6’s stated improvements are worth the extra cost to you.
