Choose the Sony WF-1000XM6 if you use Android or several device platforms, need Bluetooth multipoint, want LDAC or LC3, or prefer a detailed equalizer. Choose Apple AirPods Pro 3 if you use an iPhone and will actually use Apple’s hearing, workout, translation and device-integration features. Noise cancellation is extremely close in independent testing, while fit, phone ecosystem and current price should decide the purchase.
At a glance: the right choice depends on your phone and priorities
The WF-1000XM6 and AirPods Pro 3 are both premium true-wireless earbuds, but they are designed around different strengths. Sony treats the earbuds as a cross-platform audio product with broad codec support, multipoint pairing and extensive sound adjustment. Apple makes the AirPods Pro 3 part of a tightly integrated iPhone experience, adding health and convenience features that are less useful outside Apple hardware.

Phone compatibility and Bluetooth codecs
Sony is the flexible choice for Android and mixed platforms
The WF-1000XM6 supports SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3. That gives Android users a path to higher-bitrate LDAC playback on compatible phones, while LC3 is relevant to newer Bluetooth audio implementations. Codec availability still depends on the phone, operating system and application; selecting LDAC does not make an incompatible source device support it.
#1 Best Overall
- EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO: Catch details like never before. Designed with a High-Res Audio¹ 24-bit hi-fi codec, the latest Galaxy earbuds maintain the integrity of your favorite audio over Bluetooth.
- TWO-WAY SPEAKER: Enjoy every audio experience to the fullest with two speakers in both Buds, including a tweeter for rich highs and a woofer for deep, full lows.
- HD VOICE: Enjoy clear phone calls with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy S26 Series² —they work together to deliver crisp and clear conversations.
- ANC 2.0: Wherever you go, Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation 2.0³ intelligently adapts in real time to provide stronger, smoother noise cancellation wherever you go.
- OPTIMIZED COMFORT: Enjoy that just-right fit, with an improved, ear-hugging design and changeable ear tips.
Sony also supports Bluetooth multipoint, allowing the earbuds to maintain connections with two devices and switch between them. This is useful when a phone and laptop share the earbuds during a workday. The Sound Connect app supplies Sony’s control and equalization features across supported platforms.
AirPods Pro 3 are most complete inside Apple’s ecosystem
AirPods Pro 3 support SBC and AAC. Their strongest advantage is not a longer codec list but automatic behavior across Apple devices: pairing, switching and account-level integration are designed around compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac hardware. SoundGuys describes Android functionality as limited. An Android phone can use the earbuds for basic listening and calls, but the full feature set and the smoothest controls are tied to Apple devices.
Before buying AirPods for an Android-only setup, confirm which functions you can access with your specific phone. Apple feature availability can vary with compatible hardware, operating-system version, language and region.
Noise cancellation: close measurements, different conclusions
Do not treat ANC as a settled universal ranking. SoundGuys measured average loudness reduction of 90% for AirPods Pro 3 and 88% for WF-1000XM6. That two-point gap was small enough that SoundGuys described Sony as close, and a different reviewer reached a different overall conclusion.
What the SoundGuys measurement means
In SoundGuys’ 2026 comparison, the AirPods Pro 3 produced the higher average reduction in that publisher’s test. It is a controlled measurement from one test method, not a promise that every train, office or airplane will sound quieter with Apple’s earbuds. Ear-tip seal, frequency mix and the individual listener all affect perceived isolation.
What Hi-Fi?’s listening assessment
What Hi-Fi? favored the WF-1000XM6 for sound and noise-canceling performance in its listening review. That is an editorial assessment using its own equipment and listening conditions, so it should be read alongside—not substituted for—the SoundGuys result.
Manufacturer claims require a separate baseline
Sony says the WF-1000XM6 delivers “the world’s best noise cancelling performance” and a 25% further reduction in noise compared with the predecessor WF-1000XM5. Apple describes AirPods Pro 3 as having “the world’s best in-ear Active Noise Cancellation” and says performance is up to twice that of AirPods Pro 2. Each statement is a manufacturer comparison against an earlier model or a broad marketing position; neither establishes a direct Sony-versus-Apple test.
For a purchase decision, regard both models as high-performing ANC earbuds. If a two-percentage-point laboratory difference matters to you, use the test methodology that best resembles your listening environment and buy from a retailer with a practical return policy.

- THE BEST NOISE CANCELLATION: Experience powerful, adaptive noise cancelling that keeps distractions out and your music front and center.
- LONG BATTERY LIFE AND CONVENIENT CHARGING: Stay powered up with up to 24 hours of total playback
- Bundle includes both Axiom CPS program and WF1000XM6/S
- Care includes additional 27-month Device Plan, managed by CPS.
Battery life and charging: measured results versus advertised limits
Battery numbers in specifications and reviews answer different questions. A manufacturer’s “up to” figure uses defined playback conditions, while an independent test reflects that publication’s chosen volume, codecs and test procedure.
| Battery figure | WF-1000XM6 | AirPods Pro 3 |
|---|---|---|
| SoundGuys ANC test | 9 hours 41 minutes | 8 hours 42 minutes |
| Manufacturer-stated figure | Sony’s US FAQ states up to 24 total hours with the charging case | Apple lists up to 8 hours of ANC listening per charge |
| How to interpret it | Publisher measurement and a separate case-total claim | Publisher measurement and a separate per-charge claim |
The SoundGuys figures are test results, not guarantees. Case capacity, call time, temperature, volume, codec selection and ANC mode can change real-world endurance. Sony’s 24-hour statement is total listening with the case, whereas Apple’s cited eight-hour figure is per charge with ANC; they are not directly interchangeable specifications.
Sound quality and controls
WF-1000XM6: more control for listeners who like to tune
Sony lists its QN3e noise-canceling processor and Integrated Processor V2, Hi-Res Audio Wireless support, and DSEE Extreme processing. The Sound Connect app includes a 10-band equalizer, giving you more direct control over bass, midrange and treble than a simple preset selector. LDAC can be useful with a compatible Android source and high-quality music files, although it may increase power use or reduce connection robustness in crowded radio environments.
Recommended Free Tools
SoundGuys identifies Sony’s sound controls and codec flexibility as core strengths. The WF-1000XM6 is the better fit for someone who wants to create a personal EQ curve, retain one pair of earbuds across Android and Apple devices, or use multipoint with a computer.
AirPods Pro 3: simpler controls, deeper Apple integration
AirPods Pro 3 emphasize automatic operation, spatial audio and Apple-device integration rather than a broad codec menu. That approach is convenient when your main devices are an iPhone, iPad and Mac, because pairing and switching require less manual setup. If you want extensive manual EQ or LDAC, Sony is the more appropriate design.
Apple’s extra features: valuable, but conditional
AirPods Pro 3 add capabilities that Sony does not match in the cited specifications:
- Heart-rate sensing for workouts: useful when you want compatible Apple hardware and apps to capture exercise data from the earbuds.
- Hearing features: Apple lists hearing-test, hearing-aid and hearing-protection functions. These are not universally available; compatible hardware, software, language and regional approvals can determine what appears on your devices.
- Live Translation: Apple lists translation support, but languages, regions, software versions and device compatibility affect availability and behavior.
- Spatial audio: designed to work most fully within Apple’s media and device ecosystem.
These functions can justify the AirPods’ price for an iPhone owner who will use them regularly. They should not be valued as a blanket advantage for an Android buyer, because the necessary controls or integrations may be unavailable.
Fit, ear tips and durability
Fit determines both comfort and ANC. What Hi-Fi? found the AirPods Pro 3 easier for its reviewers to fit and reported five tip sizes, compared with four for Sony. That is reviewer experience, not a prediction for your ears: ear-canal shape, glasses, movement and tip preference vary widely.

|---|---|---|
| Tip sizes reported by What Hi-Fi? | Four | Five |

Try every supplied tip size, insert the earbuds with a gentle twist, and run a seal or fit check where the operating system provides one. Walk, speak and chew while testing: a seal that works while sitting may loosen during exercise. Keep moisture away from charging contacts and let wet earbuds dry before placing them in the case.

Sony’s US product FAQ lists a $329.99 MSRP; that page was generated July 24, 2026 and warns that promotions may no longer apply. SoundGuys’ comparison, published February 12, 2026, used $329.99 for Sony and $249 for Apple in its US price context. What Hi-Fi? reports prices and observed discounts in multiple markets, but those deals can change.
Use these figures to understand positioning, not as a checkout quote. Compare the same color, warranty, seller and regional model, and check whether a discount is a temporary promotion. A lower AirPods price can make Apple’s feature set compelling for iPhone owners; a discounted Sony can remove much of the cost objection for Android and mixed-device users.

Choose WF-1000XM6 when you use Android
Pick Sony when your primary phone is Android and you want the broadest access to controls, LDAC or LC3 options, multipoint and a 10-band EQ. It is also the safer single-pair choice for a household that moves between Android, iOS and computers.
Choose AirPods Pro 3 when your main devices are Apple
Pick Apple when you carry an iPhone and will use automatic device integration, hearing tools, workout heart-rate sensing or Live Translation. The value comes from combining those features with everyday convenience, not from a codec advantage.
Choose based on fit before chasing small ANC differences
If both platforms work for you, arrange a fit comparison or buy where returns are straightforward. A stable seal can matter more to perceived bass and isolation than a small difference between laboratory averages.
Choose Sony for manual sound shaping
Listeners who adjust several frequency bands, use high-quality Android streaming or need two-device multipoint should start with Sony. AirPods Pro 3 are preferable only if Apple’s integrated controls and features outweigh that flexibility.

If hearing protection, hearing assessment, workout heart-rate data or translation is a central reason for buying, AirPods Pro 3 are the only model here offering those listed functions. Confirm that your country, language, operating system and Apple hardware support the feature before counting it as part of the value.
A practical buying and setup checklist
- Identify your main source device. Write down the phone and computer you use most. An Android-first or mixed setup points toward Sony; an iPhone-first setup makes Apple’s integration available.
- Check feature compatibility. For Sony, verify that your phone supports the codec you want. For Apple, check the required iPhone generation, operating-system version, language and region for hearing, workout and translation features.
- Compare the live price. Use the cited $329.99 Sony MSRP and $249 dated Apple comparison price only as reference points. Confirm today’s local price, seller, warranty and return window.
- Test the seal. Try all tip sizes, complete the device’s fit check, and test both earbuds while walking and speaking.
- Configure the controls. On Sony, set the Sound Connect app’s 10-band EQ and multipoint behavior. On Apple, review automatic switching, spatial-audio settings and the available hearing or translation menus.
- Run your real routine. Make a call, switch between phone and laptop, use ANC in your usual noisy location and check charging before the return period expires.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Assuming the ANC winner is settled: SoundGuys measured Apple slightly ahead, while What Hi-Fi? preferred Sony. Treat both as evidence from different methods.
- Comparing battery claims as if they were identical: one figure may be a case-total estimate, another a per-charge claim, and a third a laboratory-style test.
- Buying AirPods for Android without checking limitations: basic playback does not guarantee access to Apple’s full feature set.
- Reading an IP rating as permission to swim: IPX4 and IP57 describe test conditions, not unlimited water exposure or permanent protection after wear.
- Assuming another reviewer’s fit applies to you: tip count helps, but only your ears can confirm comfort and seal.
- Treating launch or review pricing as current: promotions, inventory and regional pricing change; verify them at purchase.
Final recommendation
Buy the Sony WF-1000XM6 when platform flexibility, LDAC or LC3, multipoint, detailed EQ and long tested endurance matter most. Buy the Apple AirPods Pro 3 when you are committed to the iPhone ecosystem and will use its hearing, workout, translation and automatic-device features. Neither has an uncontested ANC victory, and neither can guarantee a personal fit. Check the current local price, confirm feature availability for your devices and test the ear-tip seal before keeping either pair.
