Sony is reportedly looking to revive Ape Escape, the PlayStation series that began on PS1 in 1999. The claim comes from industry insider NateTheHate, as reported by TalkEsport on October 4, 2026, and is not an official Sony announcement. No new game, developer, platform, trailer, or release date has been confirmed.
Is Ape Escape coming back?
It may be, but the revival remains a rumor. TalkEsport reported that NateTheHate said Sony is looking to bring back dormant franchises, with Ape Escape among them. PlayStation LifeStyle had also reported on October 2, 2026, that the series was reportedly under consideration for a return. Neither report amounts to confirmation from Sony.

TalkEsport quoted NateTheHate’s ResetEra post: “I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises.” That is an insider’s statement as relayed by the outlet, not a statement from Sony. Sony had not commented in TalkEsport’s October 4 report.
At present, there is no announced game title, trailer, confirmed platform, or release date. The reports do not establish that a project has been formally approved or is in active development.

Who is making the new Ape Escape game?
No developer has been identified. The reports say Team Asobi is not involved, attributing that detail to NateTheHate. They are less certain about Bandai Namco: the insider reportedly thought the company was not involved but was not fully sure. These are unconfirmed studio claims, not information announced by Sony.
Why the 2010 date matters
Ape Escape debuted on PS1 in 1999. The last numbered sequel was Ape Escape 3, released in 2005. The reporting identifies PlayStation Move Ape Escape as the latest new game in the series: it launched in Japan in 2010 and in Western markets in 2011. That regional distinction is why the franchise is often described as last seen in 2010, even though its Western release followed in 2011.

What can you play now?
The US PlayStation Store currently lists Ape Escape: On the Loose, originally a PSP game, for PS4 and PS5. The listing gives March 7, 2025, as the release date for that PS4/PS5 listing and describes Spike using gadgets to stop monkeys from changing history. It is an existing game, not the rumored revival. Store availability, price, and subscription requirements may change.
For the official digital option, check the US PlayStation Store listing for Ape Escape: On the Loose. Older PSP-era games may also be found as physical copies, but condition, seller details, and compatibility depend on the specific listing and hardware.
