Sony India’s general “Warranty & Service Charges Information” page says: “This nontransferable warranty is only for the first end user on purchase from Sony Authorised Dealer.” It says the warranty card and original purchase invoice must be produced when you hand over a product for in-warranty repair. Its FAQ adds that Sony India warranty is issued only on products marketed by Sony India, and recommends buying from a Sony Authorized Dealer in India. This is Sony-wide guidance, not a PS5-specific ruling, but it matches the logic of the reported refusal.
Warranty length
Sony India’s PlayStation FAQ (seen as a search listing; the page itself could not be opened) states a one-year standard warranty from the purchase date for consoles. ShopAtSC, Sony’s retail store, lists a one-year manufacturer warranty on the PS5 Digital Edition (CFI-2116 group). That is one model page, not a rule for every model or seller, so confirm the term for your exact unit.

Repaired or replaced consoles
PlayStation’s India guarantee page for repaired or replaced products says Sony may refuse service under that guarantee if it cannot validate warranty status and you cannot give acceptable proof of purchase for the original system. Why the invoice seller matters
Sony’s wording ties warranty to purchase from an authorized dealer, and the claim process relies on the invoice.
