Sony attributed the decision to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Global Marketing, said the company had evaluated the change and considered it necessary to continue delivering gaming experiences. The announcement did not identify particular cost drivers, such as tariffs, memory prices, component shortages or geopolitical events, so those should not be treated as Sony’s stated explanation.

What should buyers check before purchasing?
- Compare the price at the retailer with Sony’s recommended retail price; the official figures are not live quotes or guarantees of a seller’s price.
- Check local availability and applicable taxes, especially if you are outside the four markets in Sony’s table.
- Confirm which model you are buying: PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro have separate prices, and PlayStation Portal is a separate device.
