Sony has officially announced the NW-ZX900 Walkman and opened US pre-orders at $1,899.99. Sony rates it for up to 40 hours of 128 kbps MP3 playback or up to 35 hours when using streaming-service apps. The earlier leak’s claims of 8 GB RAM, Android 16, 64 GB storage and a 1080p screen remain unconfirmed until Sony publishes a complete specification sheet.
Price and release status
The NW-ZX900 was announced on October 15, 2026. Sony’s US product listing and announcement set the suggested retail price at $1,899.99 and open pre-orders through Sony and listed retailers including Amazon, B&H and Crutchfield.

An earlier Notebookcheck report, citing The Walkman Blog, described a Japan price of ¥210,000—about $1,330 using that report’s conversion—and an expected November launch. That figure was a leak, not the final US price, and currencies, taxes and regional pricing make the two amounts non-equivalent. Retail stock, delivery estimates and firmware availability can change.

Does it really have double the battery life and RAM?
Battery figures now confirmed by Sony
Sony’s official figures are up to 40 hours for 128 kbps MP3 playback and up to 35 hours with streaming-service apps. These are rated maximums, not a guarantee for every listening pattern. Sony says actual runtime varies with settings, the environment and usage, and that battery capacity declines over time.

What the leak reported
The leaked specification described 40 hours of local playback and 30 hours of streaming. The local-playback number is consistent with Sony’s official 40-hour MP3 rating, while the streaming figure uses a different mode from Sony’s 35-hour streaming-app rating. Neither establishes an independent, standardized test result or proves an exact doubling against the ZX707 in everyday use.
The same report listed 8 GB of RAM. That would represent a major memory increase if the predecessor’s configuration is used as the comparison, but Sony has not confirmed the RAM figure in the cited announcement or product information. Treat it as leak-only until a final specification sheet or device testing verifies it.

Audio design and hardware
Sony confirms a 5-inch display, balanced output, S-Master HX amplification, Native DSD support and a DSD Remastering Engine. The company says the player inherits premium audio components from its flagship design approach, describing it as having “many of the same premium audio components used in Sony’s flagship model, the NW-WMZM3, delivering exceptional sound quality with a sleek design.”
Those components indicate a high-end digital audio player aimed at wired headphone and in-ear listening. The reported 4.4 mm balanced jack would be relevant to owners of balanced cables, but the exact output power and regional connectivity specification are not established in the available announcement. Bluetooth LC3 and aptX Adaptive also remain reported rather than fully confirmed details.
Storage, Android and screen questions
MicroSD expansion
The leak lists 64 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot. Sony’s product information notes that only about 33 GB is available after system allocation, so local high-resolution and DSD libraries could make expansion useful. Sony’s final supported card capacities and regional compatibility should be checked before buying a card.

Android 16
Android 16 appears in the leaked specification, but the cited Sony materials do not confirm it. The operating-system version matters for app compatibility and how long streaming services continue to support the player, so buyers should verify the installed version and Sony’s update policy at launch.
Display resolution
Sony confirms the 5-inch size. The leak’s 1080p resolution has not been confirmed, so do not treat that pixel count as final.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it worth the price over the ZX707?
The price difference is substantial enough that the decision should be based on verified hardware and software benefits rather than the battery headline alone. The NW-ZX900 has a larger reported chassis and a reported 345 g weight, while its confirmed audio architecture includes balanced output, S-Master HX and DSD processing. The possible 8 GB RAM, Android 16 and microSD support could improve multitasking, app longevity and library capacity, but those points still need final confirmation.
- Consider the ZX900 if you specifically need its confirmed balanced-audio design, the larger 5-inch player format, Sony’s stated battery ratings or a high-end Walkman built around local and streaming playback.
- Wait for final specifications and reviews if Android version, RAM, display resolution, output power, microSD limits or weight determine your purchase.
- Do not buy on the claimed doubling alone: Sony has supplied rated battery modes, not an independent head-to-head test against the ZX707, and the RAM increase remains a leak.
What to verify before ordering
- Check the retailer’s delivery date and whether the listing is for your region.
- Confirm the final RAM, Android version, display resolution and microSD capacity limit in Sony’s specification sheet.
- Compare the stated 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm output specifications with your headphones, including balanced-output power if published.
- Account for approximately 33 GB of usable internal space rather than the nominal 64 GB, then decide whether a compatible microSD card is needed.
- Look for independent battery and listening tests before assuming the rated maximums match your streaming quality, screen settings and wireless use.
The Bottom Line
The NW-ZX900 is now a real, pre-orderable Sony product at $1,899.99, with officially rated battery life of up to 40 hours for low-bitrate MP3 and 35 hours for streaming apps. Its 8 GB RAM, Android 16, 1080p display, dimensions, weight and microSD details still require confirmation, so the value case over the ZX707 cannot be settled from the leak alone.
