The Sony K-65XR80M2 is a good pick if you want a 65-inch QD-OLED for a dim or dark room, with strong contrast, rich color and built-in sound that works without an add-on. It is a weaker choice if your room is bright, if you want the highest peak brightness, or if gaming latency is your top priority. Reviewers who tested it found it detailed and colorful, but behind some flagship OLED rivals on brightness and gaming results.
What the K-65XR80M2 is
Sony identifies the K-65XR80M2 as the 2025 BRAVIA 8 II, also marketed under the XR80 designation. It is a 65-inch-class QD-OLED television with 4K HDR resolution and Google TV. The measured diagonal is 64.5 inches. Because this is a 2025 model, check whether a successor has been released before you buy.

Sony’s marketing describes the panel and processing, but the performance picture comes from outside reviews. TechRadar’s 2025 review describes the image as detailed and colorful and says the QD-OLED panel is brighter than the earlier BRAVIA 8. It also concludes that the BRAVIA 8 II trails some flagship OLED competitors on brightness and feature breadth.

Brightness and color measurements
Tom’s Guide’s review includes a measurement table. Its results are specific to its own test setup, so treat them as one lab’s numbers rather than guaranteed performance. The publication date of these measurements is not stated on the page we checked.
| Measurement | Result (Tom’s Guide) |
|---|---|
| HDR brightness, 10% window | 1,633 nits |
| SDR brightness, 10% window | 270 nits |
| UHDA-P3 color coverage | 100% |
| Rec. 2020 color coverage | 90.55% |
| Input latency | 16.3 ms |
Tom’s Guide used a Jeti spectroradiometer, a Klein colorimeter, a Murideo pattern generator, Calman software and a Leo Bodnar input-lag tester.

- The Deco Gear Complete Home Theater Beginner's Guidebook is a comprehensive guide for beginners looking to build a television-based home theater system. It covers the essential components, including televisions, soundbars, wall mounts, and speakers, detailing their functions and importance. The guide also discusses preparing a room for optimal viewing, considering size, layout, seating distance, lighting, and acoustics.
Contrast, color and viewing angle
Tom’s Guide praises the set’s contrast, color volume, off-axis viewing and built-in audio. Those strengths matter most in dim rooms, where OLED’s black levels can make dark scenes look deep. In that same review, Tom’s Guide says brightness and gaming results trail several competing 2025 OLED televisions. The brightness figures above show why the set does better in controlled light than in a sunlit room.
Gaming
For gaming, three numbers and features matter: input latency, refresh rate and the HDMI setup. Tom’s Guide measured 16.3 ms of input latency, and its gaming results were weaker than several competing 2025 OLEDs. TechRadar’s specifications list 120 Hz. Sony’s sales page describes Auto HDR Tone Mapping aimed at PS5 and an Auto Genre Picture Mode.

- XR Processor With AI Technology
- Supports Dolby Vision
- Stream Support For Apple AirPlay And Google Cast
Before you buy for gaming, confirm these points:
- Which HDMI port you will use for your console or PC, and whether it supports 4K/120 and VRR. Sony lists VRR for HDMI 3 and 4.
- Whether your device’s output matches 120 Hz and the HDR format you use.
- Whether 16.3 ms is acceptable for your play style. Competitive players may prefer a rival that reviewers rated higher on gaming.
Sound and setup
The television uses Acoustic Surface Audio+, with two actuators and two subwoofers, so it can produce sound without an external speaker. A soundbar is optional. Sony lists eARC and Acoustic Center Sync for soundbar pairing, which helps if you want more bass or louder output. Tom’s Guide treats the built-in audio as a real strength, so an add-on is a preference rather than a requirement.
For mounting, the VESA pattern is 300 x 300 mm and the set weighs 50 lb 7.8 oz without its stand. Check your wall mount’s weight rating and VESA compatibility before buying. Measure the stand’s footprint against your TV unit, because the stand width is not stated in the sources checked.

How it compares with the Samsung S95F and LG G5
TechRadar and Tom’s Guide both compare the BRAVIA 8 II with models including the Samsung S95F and LG G5. Their conclusions are the same in outline: the BRAVIA 8 II is strong on picture character but behind some flagship OLED rivals on brightness and feature breadth. The summaries we checked do not give a full head-to-head table, so read these comparisons as the reviewers’ conclusions. This article does not rely on hands-on testing by our team.
Who should buy it
- Good fit: a dim or dark living room or home theater, a preference for deep blacks and rich color, and a wish for built-in sound without a soundbar.
- Less suitable: a bright room with large windows, a priority on peak highlight brightness, or a competitive gaming setup where input latency is the deciding factor.
Price and when to check it
In the snapshot used for this article, Sony’s US product page listed the K-65XR80M2 at $2,499.99 against a displayed MSRP of $3,299.99. The prices in Tom’s Guide and TechRadar reflect their own publication dates and may not match what you see at checkout today.
Because the set is a 2025 model, compare its current price with newer or successor models from Sony and rivals.
