It is most compelling for everyday streaming and casual viewing in a moderately lit room. The performance assessment below draws on RTINGS’ review of the 75-inch BRAVIA 2 II, which the reviewer says applies to the 55-inch model—not a direct lab test of this size.
What is the Sony K-55S20M2?
The K-55S20M2 is the 55-inch-class version of Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA 2 II. Sony lists the screen’s diagonal measurement as 54.6 inches. It is a 4K LCD television with a Direct LED backlight and frame dimming, rather than a premium display with local dimming. Sony’s U.S. specifications and product details are available on its K-55S20M2 specifications page and product page.

The main trade-off is straightforward: Sony gives you a well-connected Google TV, while independent testing of a larger model in the same series points to modest picture performance. Sony’s named processing features—including the 4K Processor X1, 4K X-Reality PRO, Live Color, and Dynamic Contrast Enhancer—are manufacturer feature descriptions, not independent evidence of a particular brightness or contrast level.
Picture quality: adequate for everyday viewing, weak in demanding scenes
RTINGS reviewed the 75-inch BRAVIA 2 II and says its findings should also apply to the 55-inch model. Its review describes weak contrast and poor dark-room image quality. Without local dimming, dark areas can look raised and gray rather than deep black. For a viewer who watches films with the lights off, that limitation can be more noticeable than the TV’s 4K resolution.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL TV PROCESSING: The 4K Processor X1 delivers a lifelike picture that is full of rich colors and sharp details.
- ENHANCED COLOR AND FINE DETAILS: See natural and precise picture quality with a wide array of colors and dynamic contrast.
- EVERYTHING YOU STREAM. ALL IN ONE SCREEN: Get access to all your favorite streaming apps in one place with Google TV. Easily stream to your TV with support for Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast.
- IMMERSIVE SURROUND SOUND: S-Force PRO Front Surround and Dolby Digital create cinematic style surround sound.
- ENJOY CLEAR DIALOGUE AND POWERFUL SOUND: Powerful audio technology, such as the X-Balanced Speaker Unit and Separated Notch Edge, works to deliver wide-ranging sound and enhanced vocal clarity.
RTINGS also characterizes SDR brightness as adequate for a room with a couple of overhead lights, but not for a bright room, and finds HDR brightness poor. Sony lists HDR10 and HLG compatibility, but support for those formats does not mean the screen can deliver strong HDR highlights. Sony does not list Dolby Vision for this model.
RTINGS’ detailed numerical measurements are not available in the evidence cited here, so there are no brightness, contrast-ratio, or input-lag figures to compare. The qualitative conclusions are still useful for choosing a room and viewing style: this is a more plausible option for casual TV and streaming in moderate light than for a bright space or dark-room cinema viewing. See the RTINGS BRAVIA 2 II review for its full methodology and findings.

Gaming: useful basics, but not a high-refresh set
The panel’s native refresh rate is 60 Hz. Sony lists Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) on all four HDMI inputs, which can let a connected console prompt the TV to switch to a lower-latency picture mode. Sony does not list Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). RTINGS says the set lacks HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and does not support 120 Hz or higher, so the presence of ALLM should not be read as full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 gaming support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat makes the K-55S20M2 reasonable to consider for casual console play at 60 Hz, but a poor fit if your priority is 120 Hz gaming or VRR. RTINGS also notes motion interpolation and black frame insertion, but these features do not change the panel’s native 60 Hz ceiling.

Smart features and connections
Google TV is the TV’s smart platform, with Google Play Store access and 16 GB of onboard storage. Sony lists Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay, Apple HomeKit, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. That mix supports common casting and smart-home uses without requiring an external streaming device for many households.
For wired devices, Sony lists four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, Ethernet, an optical digital audio output, and eARC/ARC. The set’s breadth of connections is a practical strength, particularly if you have a console, streaming box, and sound system to connect. Sony’s product page also lists five Sony Pictures Core credits and 12 months of unlimited streaming of top movies; check the offer terms and regional availability before treating those as part of the purchase.

Sound, size, and installation
Sony specifies two full-range bass-reflex speakers rated at 10 W each, for 20 W total output. Dolby Audio, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X are listed as supported formats. Format support does not make the built-in two-speaker system equivalent to a dedicated surround setup; consider a separate audio system if that is important to you.

The TV has a 300 × 300 mm VESA mounting pattern. Sony lists dimensions of 48.38 × 28.63 × 3.25 inches without the stand and 48.38 × 30.88 × 11.38 inches with it, and a weight of 29.8 lb with the stand. Measure your furniture or wall space and confirm that any mount supports the VESA pattern and the television’s weight.

Price and value
Sony’s U.S. product page displayed $599.99 for the 55-inch model and an instant $100 soundbar bundle saving when the information was collected. Those are time-sensitive offers, not guaranteed current prices or a promise of the same deal at other retailers. Check the Sony product page for current price, availability, shipping, and bundle terms. At any price, weigh the smart features and connectivity against the display limitations and your need for gaming performance; the cited evidence does not establish a current competitor that is a better buy.
How strong is the review evidence?
RTINGS published its BRAVIA 2 II review on October 22, 2025, and updated the test bench on September 18, 2026, using methodology v2.2.1. Its lab test was of the 75-inch version, not the K-55S20M2. RTINGS explicitly says its results should apply to the 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch versions, making the review relevant to this model but not a direct 55-inch measurement. No hands-on testing of the K-55S20M2 is represented here.
