Choose the Sony INZONE H9 II if you play mainly on PC or PS5 and want active noise cancellation (ANC), a 2.4GHz wireless dongle and a simultaneous phone connection. Choose SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 if long claimed battery life and broad USB-C device compatibility matter most. Choose Arctis Nova 7 if you need simultaneous game audio and Bluetooth audio. Xbox owners must check the exact edition before buying: Sony states that the H9 II’s supplied 2.4GHz dongle does not work with Xbox consoles.

These are families, not single products. The H9 II, H9, H5, H6 Air, H3, Nova 5, Nova 7, Nova 7P/7X and Nova Pro variants have different connections and features. The comparison below keeps those model differences explicit rather than treating every “INZONE” or “Arctis Nova” headset as interchangeable.

A wired or open-back Sony headset INZONE H6 Air or H3 H6 Air is open-back and wired; H3 is wired. Neither is a direct wireless equivalent to Nova 5 or Nova 7.

This is a feature-and-compatibility guide, not a controlled sound test. The manufacturers’ pages do not establish that one family sounds better, has a better microphone, is more comfortable or has stronger ANC than the other.

Start with the console and connection you actually use

PC and PlayStation 5

The H9 II is designed around a USB-C 2.4GHz dongle for PC and PS5. It also supports Bluetooth, including LE Audio, and a 3.5mm wired connection. Sony describes ANC in both wired and wireless modes. This combination suits a player who wants low-latency game audio, noise reduction and a phone connected at the same time.

Nova 5’s USB-C wireless dongle is listed for PC and PlayStation, as well as Switch, Chromebook, Meta Quest, handhelds and compatible USB-C phones or tablets. Nova 7’s listed dongle works with PS4/PS5, PC, Switch and tablet. Verify whether the listing is for Nova 7, 7P or another suffix: SteelSeries changes platform support and controls between editions.

Xbox

Sony’s H9 II FAQ is unambiguous: “The 2.4GHz dongle does not work with Xbox consoles.” Do not assume that a USB-C adapter makes it an Xbox headset. If Xbox is your main platform, select a Nova model specifically marked for Xbox and confirm the exact package before opening it. The SteelSeries Nova Pro page reviewed here resolved to an Xbox-specific page, which illustrates why the edition is part of the product name.

Switch, handhelds and tablets

Nova 5 has the broadest explicitly listed USB-C dongle range in this comparison: PC, PlayStation, Switch, Chromebook, Meta Quest, handhelds and compatible USB-C phones or tablets. Nova 7’s page lists PlayStation, PC, Switch and tablet support. The H9 II’s published primary dongle targets are PC and PS5; use Bluetooth or the 3.5mm cable for other hardware only when that device supports the corresponding connection.

Sony INZONE models: what each one is for

Model Connections and wireless features Battery claim Other published details
INZONE H9 II (WH-G910NB) 2.4GHz USB-C dongle for PC/PS5; Bluetooth Classic and LE Audio; 3.5mm wired Up to 30 hours ANC; simultaneous dongle-plus-phone Bluetooth; detachable unidirectional cardioid microphone; 260g without microphone
INZONE H9 2.4GHz USB-A dongle; Bluetooth Classic; wired operation Up to 32 hours with noise cancelling off ANC; bidirectional microphone; 330g
INZONE H5 2.4GHz USB-A dongle; wireless family comparison lists Bluetooth Up to 28 hours Bidirectional microphone
INZONE H6 Air Wired Not applicable to its wired design Open-back design
INZONE H3 Wired Not applicable to its wired design Bidirectional microphone

Battery figures in this table are Sony’s maximum claims, not common-condition measurements. Sony’s H9 figure specifically assumes noise cancelling is off; the H9 II figure is presented as “up to 30 hours” and varies with settings, environment and use.

INZONE H9 II: the premium PC/PS5 choice

The H9 II is the clearest Sony match for a PC or PS5 player who wants ANC without giving up wireless flexibility. Its USB-C dongle avoids a USB-A-only connection, while Bluetooth can remain connected to a phone. Sony describes using both links concurrently, so a call or phone audio can be available while the headset remains connected to the game device.

The H9 II uses a detachable unidirectional cardioid microphone. That construction is a specification, not proof of superior voice quality; room noise, positioning and software settings still affect calls and chat. Its listed weight is 260g without the microphone, so compare published weights carefully: the older H9 is listed at 330g, and the figures are not necessarily measured with identical accessories installed.

INZONE H9: older ANC alternative

The original H9 remains relevant when its 2.4GHz and Bluetooth setup fits your equipment. Sony lists up to 32 hours with noise cancelling off, a 10-minute quick charge for one hour of play, Bluetooth Classic 5.0 and a flip-up microphone mute. Its dongle is USB-A rather than the H9 II’s USB-C design. Treat it as the earlier H9 model, not as an H9 II with a different name.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

INZONE H5, H6 Air and H3

Sony lists the H5 at up to 28 hours and places it below the H9 models in the family comparison. The H6 Air is an open-back wired model, while the H3 is wired. These choices eliminate wireless battery management, but they also change the use case: open-back earcups allow more environmental sound and are not the same isolation solution as an ANC headset. Select them when a cable is acceptable, not as substitutes for H9 II’s wireless features.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova models: the important differences

Arctis Nova 5 Wireless

SteelSeries labels Nova 5’s battery feature “60-Hour Battery Life.” That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified runtime under a shared test condition. The headset uses a USB-C wireless dongle and Bluetooth 5.3, and its page describes switching between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth rather than mixing both audio streams simultaneously.

The companion mobile app offers more than 100 game presets, and the microphone is retractable. Compatibility notes include platform-specific feature limits: ChatMix requires PC support and is not available on PlayStation. Therefore, a Nova 5 feature shown in the app or PC software may not be available when the same headset is connected to a console.

Nova 5 is the practical choice for someone who moves between several USB-C devices and values fewer charges. “Up to 60 hours” should be treated as a ceiling that depends on connection mode, volume, lighting or other settings; it is not an apples-to-apples result against Sony’s figures.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Arctis Nova 7

SteelSeries lists up to 38 hours for Nova 7 and describes simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. That is materially different from Nova 5’s quick-switch behavior: Nova 7 is intended for hearing game audio while also receiving phone audio, such as a call or music, without disconnecting the game link.

The listed USB-C dongle supports PS4/PS5, PC, Switch and tablet. SteelSeries also has Nova 7P and other platform editions. The microphone, software behavior and control layout cited on one product page should not automatically be attributed to every Nova 7 suffix; check the exact model page for your console.

Arctis Nova Pro Wireless

The SteelSeries page available for Nova Pro Wireless resolved to an Xbox-specific product page, and the captured information did not expose a complete specification set. Do not infer battery life, ANC, base-station behavior or audio performance for Nova Pro from the Nova 5 or Nova 7 pages. Confirm whether you need the Xbox or PlayStation edition and read the current specification page before buying.

Battery life: compare the claim and its condition

Headset Published maximum Condition or qualification
INZONE H9 II Up to 30 hours Sony says actual performance varies with settings, environment and use.
INZONE H9 Up to 32 hours Sony specifies noise cancelling off.
INZONE H5 Up to 28 hours Family-comparison figure; operating conditions are not presented as a shared test with SteelSeries.
Arctis Nova 7 Up to 38 hours SteelSeries manufacturer claim.
Arctis Nova 5 Up to 60 hours SteelSeries manufacturer claim labeled “60-Hour Battery Life.”

The numbers indicate positioning, not a laboratory ranking. Sony’s H9 number is explicitly tied to ANC-off operation, while the SteelSeries pages do not establish that their figures were measured with the same volume, radio, microphone or software settings. If you need predictable uptime, plan around the lower end of any vendor estimate and keep the wired option available where the model supports it.

ANC, microphones and sound: what the specifications do—and do not—prove

Noise cancellation

Sony explicitly describes ANC on H9 II and H9. The Nova 5 and Nova 7 pages reviewed here focus on wireless connections, presets and battery life and do not establish ANC for those models. That makes Sony the safer choice when active noise reduction is a requirement, but it does not prove that Sony’s ANC is stronger in every environment.

Microphones

Sony’s family comparison identifies a detachable unidirectional cardioid microphone on H9 II and bidirectional microphones on H9, H5 and H3. SteelSeries describes a retractable microphone for Nova 5 and provides model-specific microphone information for Nova 7. These design labels help you understand how a microphone is positioned or stored; they are not controlled measurements of clarity, background rejection or sidetone quality.

Spatial audio and presets

Sony describes INZONE and PC spatial-audio software. SteelSeries describes companion-app presets for Nova 5 and software features that can vary by platform. A preset count or spatial-audio mode does not establish a universal sound-quality winner. Treat software as a reason to choose a workflow you will actually use, not as a substitute for an independent listening test.

How to choose: a decision path that avoids the common mistakes

  1. Name every device. Write down the console, computer ports, phone and handhelds you will use. A USB-C port on a console does not make an Xbox-incompatible dongle compatible.
  2. Decide whether ANC is mandatory. If yes, the documented options here are H9 II and H9. If no, Nova 5’s runtime and device list or Nova 7’s simultaneous wireless may matter more.
  3. Decide between mixing and switching. Choose Nova 7 or H9 II when you need the game device and phone connected concurrently. Choose Nova 5 when switching between links is sufficient.
  4. Check the suffix. For SteelSeries, verify Nova 7, 7P, 7X or another edition against your console. For Sony, check the exact INZONE model and its dongle connector.
  5. Set a battery expectation. Use the published numbers as maximum claims with conditions, not as guaranteed weekly runtime.
  6. Choose wired only deliberately. H6 Air and H3 remove charging, but they require a cable; H6 Air’s open-back design also changes isolation and sound leakage.
  7. Confirm current regional price. Sony’s US H9 II page displayed $349.99 when accessed in 2026. Prices, stock and promotions change, and the available SteelSeries information here does not provide a like-for-like current price.

Setup guidance for each connection style

Sony H9 II on PC or PS5

  1. Insert the supplied USB-C 2.4GHz dongle into the PC or PS5, using an appropriate adapter only if the device requires one.
  2. Select the headset as the system’s output and chat input, then adjust the game’s chat mix in the platform settings.
  3. Pair the phone over Bluetooth if you want phone audio alongside the dongle connection. Sony documents concurrent device and phone connectivity.
  4. Use the 3.5mm cable when the host device or battery state requires a wired fallback.
  5. Do not move the dongle to an Xbox expecting the same wireless mode; Sony says it does not work with Xbox consoles.

Sony H9

  1. Connect its USB-A 2.4GHz dongle to the PC or console port and select the headset for game and chat audio.
  2. Pair Bluetooth Classic 5.0 when you need a phone connection.
  3. Remember that Sony’s 32-hour maximum is specified with noise cancelling off; enable ANC only when its benefit outweighs the additional runtime demand.

Nova 5

  1. Connect the USB-C wireless dongle to the intended PC, PlayStation, Switch, Chromebook, handheld, Meta Quest or compatible phone/tablet.
  2. Use Bluetooth 5.3 when you prefer a direct phone connection.
  3. Use the headset’s quick-switch behavior to move between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth; do not expect the simultaneous mixing described for Nova 7.
  4. Install the SteelSeries mobile app if you want its game presets, and verify which controls and ChatMix functions are available on your platform.

Nova 7

  1. Connect the USB-C dongle to the listed PS4/PS5, PC, Switch or tablet device.
  2. Pair the phone over Bluetooth.
  3. Use the simultaneous 2.4GHz-plus-Bluetooth feature for game and phone audio, then set levels independently so one source does not mask the other.
  4. Confirm the 7, 7P or other suffix before setup; console support is edition-specific.

Questions the model names often hide

  • Is H9 II automatically better than H9? Not in every use case. H9 II has USB-C dongle support, LE Audio, a detachable cardioid microphone and a 30-hour claim; H9 lists up to 32 hours with ANC off, USB-A dongle support and a 10-minute charge for one hour of play.
  • Does Nova 5’s 60-hour claim beat Sony’s battery life? It is the higher stated maximum, but the figures come from different manufacturers and conditions. Do not treat it as an independent endurance test.
  • Can Nova 5 mix phone and game audio? The page reviewed describes switching between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. Nova 7, by contrast, explicitly describes simultaneous connections.
  • Is a Nova Pro recommendation safe without an edition check? No. The available page was for Nova Pro for Xbox and did not expose the complete specification set. Verify the exact platform edition and current details.
  • Does a detachable or retractable microphone guarantee clearer chat? No. It describes the hardware arrangement, not measured voice quality or background-noise rejection.
