The Sony K-65XR80 is the 65-inch 2024 BRAVIA 8: a 4K OLED Google TV with a 120Hz panel, Dolby Vision support and 4K/120Hz gaming. It is most compelling if you value OLED’s deep blacks, Sony’s image presentation and Google TV, and can place it where direct reflections are manageable. Its clearest practical compromise is connectivity: only HDMI inputs 3 and 4 support 4K at 120Hz, so a soundbar or receiver using eARC can affect how you allocate those ports.

What the Sony K-65XR80 is

Sony identifies the K-65XR80 as a 2024 model. It has an OLED panel, a native resolution of 3840 × 2160, and a listed 120Hz refresh rate. Sony’s UK listing gives the measured diagonal as 65 inches (64.5 inches). These specifications describe this model identifier; regional versions and services may differ.

Sony lists HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision compatibility, plus Google TV. App and service availability can vary by country. The model has four HDMI inputs, but that does not mean all four provide the same high-bandwidth gaming features.

Picture quality and room lighting

OLED contrast and color

RTINGS tested a purchased 65-inch BRAVIA 8 and reports perfect black levels and a wide range of vibrant colors. That combination is well suited to films and shows with dark scenes, where OLED can show black without the haloing associated with some backlit displays. RTINGS also found HDR gaming impactful, while describing HDR brightness in Game Mode as decent rather than exceptional.

Brightness and reflections

RTINGS says SDR brightness is sufficient for rooms with indirect lighting, but a light source directly opposite the screen produces a quite visible reflection. Before buying, consider the screen from the seat you actually use: a window, bright lamp or other source reflected straight back at you can be more troublesome than general ambient light.

What Hi-Fi? praises the BRAVIA 8 overall, while noting that it does not reach the brightness of Sony’s A95L or LG G4. That is the publication’s review judgment, not a universal brightness ranking across every size, picture mode or viewing condition. If your priority is a very bright room or the brightest possible HDR highlights, compare those models and current alternatives under like-for-like conditions.

Motion and image processing

Sony positions the BRAVIA 8 as a premium OLED television, but the material available for this review does not establish a controlled, directly comparable motion or processing advantage over rival sets. If you watch a lot of sports, fast action or lower-resolution broadcast video, compare the specific models in person where possible and check reviews that test the same content and picture settings.

Gaming: capable, but plan the HDMI connections

Sony lists 4K/120Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) support. RTINGS identifies HDMI inputs 3 and 4 as the two inputs supporting up to 4K at 120Hz. The television’s four HDMI sockets therefore should not be treated as four equivalent high-bandwidth gaming ports.

Because eARC is also listed among the HDMI 2.1 features, account for your audio setup before connecting consoles and a soundbar or receiver. Check the port labels and Sony’s setup guidance for your region; if you need several 4K/120Hz sources and eARC audio, the number and allocation of suitable ports may constrain your arrangement.

TechRadar reports a measured input lag of 12.8 ms for the BRAVIA 8. That is the publication’s measurement, not a Sony specification; its cited result does not state the exact settings or test procedure, so it should not be read as a guaranteed figure for every mode. For gaming, the more firmly established feature set is 4K/120Hz, VRR and ALLM, alongside the two suitable HDMI inputs.

Size, mounting and installation

Sony UK lists the TV without its stand at approximately 144.2 × 82.9 × 3.7 cm and 22.3 kg. The VESA mounting pattern is 300 × 300 mm. Confirm that a wall mount is rated for the television’s weight and VESA pattern, and check the stand configuration and clearance before installation; Sony notes that stand dimensions and width depend on installation position.

For a 4K/120Hz console or PC, use a cable and source setup suitable for that signal, and connect it to HDMI 3 or 4. If you plan to wall-mount the set, make sure the selected position still provides practical access to the ports and leaves room for attached plugs.

Should you buy the K-65XR80?

Consider it if you want a 65-inch OLED with deep blacks, a 120Hz panel, Dolby Vision, Google TV and modern console gaming features. It is a less obvious fit if your screen faces a direct light source, if you need more than two 4K/120Hz inputs, or if maximum brightness is a higher priority than OLED contrast.

There is no established current price, inventory or local warranty in the cited information, so a value verdict depends on the offer available where you live. Compare the K-65XR80 with alternatives at the same size and local price, checking brightness, reflections, motion and processing, HDMI allocation, HDR formats, operating system and warranty rather than relying on model reputation alone. Match the listing carefully: K-65XR80C, K-65XR80M2, XR8B and other identifiers may refer to distinct versions.
