Sony BRAVIA 8 II vs LG G5: Which OLED TV Should You Buy?

There is no clear one-size-fits-all winner between Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA 8 II QD-OLED and LG’s 2025 G5 OLED evo. Choose based on the exact size and price available where you live, your room’s lighting, how much you game, and which picture presentation you prefer. Sony is worth shortlisting if you want a 55- or 65-inch TV and value its picture-processing approach; compare the G5 if its feature mix, size options, or local deal better fit your needs.

What is different about the BRAVIA 8 II and LG G5?

These are premium 2025 OLED televisions, but they use different panel technologies: Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II is QD-OLED, while LG’s G5 is WOLED. That distinction can inform what you compare, but the panel label alone does not establish which TV will look better to you. Picture settings, the content you watch, room conditions, and your preferences all matter.

The available BRAVIA 8 II review coverage describes the set’s picture quality and Sony processing enthusiastically. That is a reason to consider it if you like Sony’s image presentation, not proof of a measured advantage over the G5. A separate 2025 comparison treats the G5 and BRAVIA 8 II as flagship OLED competitors, but the surfaced price information is historical launch context rather than current retail pricing. TechRadar’s BRAVIA 8 II review and What Hi-Fi?’s OLED TV guide provide editorial context; neither substitutes for checking the exact models and prices available to you.

Which sizes can you buy?

The surfaced BRAVIA 8 II review reports 55- and 65-inch models. LG’s US product page identifies a 77-inch-class G5 model, OLED77G5WUA, and includes a supplied wall mount in the page title. Availability and included mounting or stand hardware can vary by size and region, so confirm the precise model number and box contents before comparing prices. LG’s US page for the 77-inch-class G5 identifies that specific model.

  • PURE BLACK AND OUR HIGHEST OLED BRIGHTNESS: Over 8 million self-lit pixels are precisely controlled to produce pure black with our highest OLED brightness.
  • BILLIONS OF REAL-WORLD COLORS: See billions of accurate real-world colors with a Quantum Dot panel and XR Triluminos Max.

  • EVERYTHING YOU STREAM. ALL IN ONE SCREEN: Get access to all your favorite streaming apps in one place with Google TV. With Google Assistant, simply use your voice to search and ask questions.

For a fair comparison, start with the sizes you can actually buy in your market. Compare like for like where possible; a larger screen at a lower price per inch may still be a poor fit if your room, viewing distance, or mounting setup does not suit it.

How should your room affect the choice?

Consider where the TV will sit and when you watch it. A screen facing windows or strong ambient light raises questions about reflections and usable brightness. The available evidence does not establish a tested reflection or brightness winner for this exact pair, so do not assume QD-OLED or WOLED automatically settles the question.

  • For a bright room, check a review or retailer display of the exact size and regional model under lighting similar to yours.
  • For a darker room, think about the films and shows you watch and whether you prefer the image processing and presentation you see from each TV.
  • If you plan to wall-mount the set, compare included hardware, installation requirements, and any stand you may need to purchase separately.

Which is better for gaming?

Do not choose on a headline refresh-rate comparison alone. The surfaced RTINGS comparison labels BRAVIA 8 II as a 120 Hz QD-OLED, but its G5 figures pair the G5 with the original BRAVIA 8—not the BRAVIA 8 II. That is not a direct test of these two TVs. The comparison indicates higher refresh-rate support for the G5 in that pairing, but it cannot establish a complete head-to-head gaming verdict for the models in this article. RTINGS’ comparison tool shows the pairing and labels used.

Before buying, check the specifications for your exact regional SKU and the features your console or PC needs. In particular, verify native refresh rate, HDMI input capabilities, and support for variable refresh rate (VRR). A feature listed for one size or region should not be assumed to apply to every G5 or BRAVIA 8 II model.

What should you compare before buying?

Prices reported for the BRAVIA 8 II in June 2025 were $3,299 for the 55-inch model and $2,999 for the 65-inch model after reductions, according to TechRadar. Those figures are a dated US snapshot, not current prices—and they are not a reliable basis for deciding what either TV costs now. The comparison coverage also provides historical launch-price context for the G5, not today’s street price.

Check current listings for the exact model and size in your region. Compare the total cost rather than the screen price alone:

Which TV is right for you?

Choose the BRAVIA 8 II if…

  • You are shopping for a 55- or 65-inch TV and those sizes fit your room.
  • You value Sony’s picture-processing character and the BRAVIA 8 II review coverage appeals to your viewing priorities.
  • You have checked the current price and exact regional model rather than relying on older US pricing.

Compare the LG G5 if…

  • You want to weigh its feature mix, available sizes, or a better current local deal against the Sony.
  • You are considering a larger screen, and a G5 size sold in your market fits your room and budget.
  • Gaming features matter, and the specifications for the exact G5 model you can buy meet your console or PC requirements.

What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 guide favors the BRAVIA 8 II overall while noting that the G5 is more aggressive in some areas. That is an editorial verdict, not a direct substitute for your priorities or a full measured comparison of every size and regional version.
