Independent reviewers praise its color and backlight control. They also flag a reflective screen and weaker contrast when you sit off-center. This article is a source-based assessment built from Sony’s own pages plus RTINGS and TechRadar reporting, not a hands-on lab test of our own. It covers the six sizes (K-50XR70M2, K-55XR70M2, K-65XR70M2, K-75XR70M2, K-85XR70M2 and K-98XR70M2), gaming ports, smart features and installation.
What the BRAVIA 7 II is
Sony Japan classifies the XR70M2 series as a 4K LCD television (3,840 × 2,160 pixels) with an RGB Mini LED backlight. Instead of white or blue LEDs with a color-filtering layer, the backlight uses red, green and blue elements. Sony says its algorithm controls the three colors individually. RTINGS describes the set as the 2026 successor to the 2024 BRAVIA 7 and lists Google TV 14.

Sony claims color volume of about 1.5 times that of the previous BRAVIA 7. That is a manufacturer comparison from Sony Japan’s 2026 product page, not an independent measurement.
What reviewers found
Strengths
- TechRadar’s hands-on review describes strong color reproduction and good backlight control, and titled the piece “one of the best TVs I’ve tested this year”.
- RTINGS lists the RGB Mini LED design as the headline change over the 2024 model.
Weaknesses
- TechRadar found the screen reflective, so bright rooms may be a problem.
- It also saw blooming and weakened contrast when viewed off-center. That matters for wide seating arrangements.
These are test-room observations. They may differ by screen size, room and individual sample.

BRAVIA 7 II vs OLED and rival Mini LED sets
The available sources don’t include comparable measurements against specific rivals, so there is no honest universal winner. When you compare, check these points on the exact models and sizes you’re considering:
- HDR peak and full-screen brightness
- Black level and blooming around bright objects
- Viewing angle and screen reflections
- Motion handling
- HDMI gaming support
- Price at your size, and the operating system you prefer

Gaming and HDMI ports
Sony Japan lists a Game Menu and PS5-specific features, including Auto HDR Tone Mapping and a content-based picture mode. TechRadar reports two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K at 120Hz, VRR and ALLM, and two HDMI 2.0 ports. One of the HDMI 2.1 ports also carries eARC.

Port planning matters. If you connect a console, a second high-bandwidth source and a soundbar over eARC, the two 2.1 ports may not be enough. Confirm the allocation for your country and model, and confirm that your receiver or soundbar can pass through the signal you need. Don’t assume every port supports the maximum gaming format.

Smart features, picture modes and audio
Platform and Gemini
The TV runs Google TV, with Google Cast, AirPlay and HomeKit listed on Sony Japan’s specification page. Sony markets Gemini on the platform. Sony’s US page says Gemini for TV is limited to select models, countries and languages, requires users to be 18 or older, and may depend on a software update. Don’t buy on the assumption that it will be available in your region.
Movie features
Sony advertises Studio Calibrated modes, Sony Pictures Core, IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Vision, DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. These are format-support claims. They don’t mean any particular streaming title or subscription is included, so check local app availability and service terms.

Built-in sound
Both Sony pages list Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Voice Zoom 3, and the US page describes wireless connection to compatible BRAVIA Home Theater products. On the Japan specification page, the 50- and 55-inch models use Acoustic Multi-Audio, while larger sizes are described as Acoustic Multi-Audio+. A soundbar is an optional upgrade for fuller sound or clearer dialogue, not a required fix. Check compatibility before pairing one.

These are Japan-page figures. Check your local SKU for exact numbers. Before you order, also check:
- Mount pattern and rated load for a compatible wall mount (Sony’s site has a wall-mount search)
- Wall construction and the cable path
- Viewing distance for the size you want
- Delivery access, especially for the 85- and 98-inch models
Who it suits
It fits buyers who want a bright LCD with strong color and Sony’s picture processing, and who have a room with controlled light and mostly head-on seating. Think twice if your room is bright or your seating is wide, because of the reflections and off-axis contrast loss reviewers noted. Also think twice if you plan to connect more than two high-bandwidth gaming sources without a receiver.
