TechRadar’s tested 65-inch set produced vivid, detailed images and low measured input lag; its reflective screen, off-angle contrast loss and just two HDMI 2.1 inputs are the main buying checks. Whether it is worth the price depends on your room lighting, seating and connected devices.
What the BRAVIA 7 II is—and what RGB Mini LED changes
The BRAVIA 7 II is Sony’s 2026 XR70M2 family of 4K televisions, positioned as the successor to the 2024 BRAVIA 7. RTINGS identifies it as a premium model with RGB Mini LED, Google TV 14 and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two inputs. RTINGS’ product overview establishes those headline specifications; the detailed measurements discussed below come from TechRadar’s separate test.

Sony describes its “True RGB” backlight as red, green and blue Mini LEDs that are independently controlled using RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro processing. The aim is to produce color directly from the backlight rather than relying only on a conventional white or blue backlight and color filters. Sony says the system provides about 1.5 times the color volume of the previous BRAVIA 7. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independently verified measurement. Sony’s U.S. product page describes the feature as “True RGB with independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs” for an expanded color range.
How bright and colorful was the tested TV?
TechRadar tested a 65-inch sample and measured peak HDR brightness of 1,114 nits in Professional mode, 1,295 nits in Standard mode and 1,163 nits in Cinema mode. In Professional mode, its fullscreen HDR measurement was 829 nits. The same review measured 87.7% BT.2020 and 99.2% UHDA-P3 color coverage. These figures describe TechRadar’s sample and test methods, not a guarantee for every size or individual unit. Read TechRadar’s hands-on review and test results.

Those measurements accompany the review’s positive subjective findings: vivid color, good contrast and detail, and effective shadow handling. A separate Tom’s Guide comparison reported preliminary results of 2,078 nits at a 10% HDR window and 87.2% Rec. 2020 coverage. Its article said the full review was still in progress, so those early figures should not be treated as a completed independent verdict or directly equated with TechRadar’s measurements. Will it work well in your room?
Screen reflections are a meaningful drawback if the television will face windows, bright lamps or other strong light sources. TechRadar found reflections conspicuous in bright surroundings, especially over dark scenes. That does not mean every bright room will look the same, but it makes room layout and light control important to consider before buying.

Seating position matters too. The review observed blooming and faded contrast when viewed off-center. If several people regularly watch from wide or side seating positions, compare the picture from those seats in person if possible. A head-on setup is a safer fit based on the reported viewing behavior.

Is it a good TV for gaming?
The BRAVIA 7 II supports 4K at 120 Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Dolby Vision gaming, according to TechRadar. In its test, input lag measured 10.4 ms at 4K/60 Hz and 5.7 ms at 1080p/120 Hz. These are the review’s results for its tested unit and signal conditions.

The port count may matter more than the feature list: only two of the four HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1; the other two are HDMI 2.0. Count your 4K/120 Hz-capable consoles and PC sources, and check whether your receiver or switch can handle the devices you plan to connect before assuming all can stay directly attached.
Which sizes and model numbers are available?
Sony Japan lists XR70M2 models in 50-, 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 98-inch sizes. Sony’s U.S. product page identifies the 75-inch model as K75XR70M2 and calls it a 2026 True RGB 4K HDR Google TV. Model suffixes, tuner specifications and availability can differ by market, so verify the complete model number and local specifications rather than relying on a size name alone. Sony Japan’s XR70M2 series page lists the series features and sizes.

What else should buyers check?
HDR and smart-TV features
Sony lists Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG support, Google TV, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. It also lists PlayStation-focused Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. Sony says Gemini availability depends on select models and a software update, so do not assume the feature is active on every regional model at purchase. Sony’s U.S. listing provides its feature details.
Built-in audio
TechRadar reports that the 65-, 75- and 85-inch models have a 40 W system with two full-range speakers and two subwoofers. The 50- and 55-inch versions use two full-range speakers and two tweeters. The reviewer found the built-in sound competent and suggested considering a soundbar; an external speaker is an optional way to pursue fuller sound, not a prerequisite established by the review.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the BRAVIA 7 II?
- It is a stronger fit if vivid color, detailed HDR, 4K/120 Hz gaming and Sony’s PlayStation features matter, and your main seats are near the center of the screen.
- Think carefully before buying if the TV must face bright windows or lamps, viewers sit far off-axis, or you need more than two HDMI 2.1 sources connected directly.
- Judge value locally by comparing the same screen size and current regional prices. Weigh reflection handling, viewing angle, HDMI 2.1 port count, HDR formats and refresh-rate support alongside panel technology; the label alone does not settle which TV is best for your room.
