The 65-inch Sony BRAVIA 3 K-65S30 is a 4K Google TV with Dolby Vision and Sony’s picture-processing features, but its native 60Hz panel, lack of VRR and reported weakness in dark scenes put it in the mainstream-TV category—not the high-end gaming or cinema-performance tier. It makes the most sense for everyday streaming and casual 60fps gaming, provided you can get it at a competitive local price.
What the Sony K-65S30 is
Sony identifies the K-65S30 as its 2024 65-inch-class BRAVIA 3 LED 4K HDR Google TV. Its resolution is 3840 × 2160. The model reviewed by What Hi-Fi? is also the 65-inch BRAVIA 3, so its viewing observations are relevant to this size; they remain that publication’s judgments, not universal results.

Sony lists Google TV, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, along with four HDMI inputs, two USB ports and eARC/ARC. The official support page identifies a 4K HDR Processor X1 and Motionflow XR 240. That Motionflow label should not be mistaken for a 240Hz panel: Sony specifies a native 60Hz refresh rate.
How is the picture quality?
The format support is broad for a mainstream LED television: Sony lists Dolby Vision as well as HDR10 and HLG. What Hi-Fi?’s review found the out-of-box picture punchy, but said motion looked over-smoothed. The reviewer found Professional picture mode more balanced and natural.

The more important caveat for film and TV viewing is dark-scene performance. What Hi-Fi? describes a grey wash and a loss of impact and detail in dark scenes. The set uses direct LED lighting without local dimming, according to that review; Sony’s specifications do not establish a local-dimming system. If you often watch films in a dark room or care about shadow detail, this is a reason to compare alternatives in person rather than relying on the HDR format list alone.
Is the K-65S30 good for gaming?
It is suitable for casual gaming and consoles targeting 60fps, but it is not a 4K/120Hz or variable-refresh-rate gaming display. Sony specifies native 60Hz; What Hi-Fi? reports no VRR. ALLM is supported on all four HDMI sockets, according to the review, and one HDMI input also provides eARC.

Sony advertises PS5 Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. Sony’s FAQ says Auto HDR Tone Mapping needs to be enabled on first pairing. Those conveniences do not change the panel’s 60Hz ceiling or add VRR. If 120Hz play or VRR is important, compare televisions that explicitly support those features.
Sound and connections
Sony advertises X-Balanced speakers and Dolby Audio/Atmos compatibility. What Hi-Fi? reports a two-channel system with 20W combined output on the 65-inch model. For viewers who want fuller sound, an external soundbar is an optional upgrade; the TV supports eARC/ARC, and Atmos-compatible content can be passed to a compatible audio device over HDMI eARC.

Compare the K-65S30 with alternatives available in your country at the price you can actually buy it for. For gaming, check native refresh rate and VRR; for movie viewing, look at dark-scene handling and local dimming as well as HDR formats. Also compare smart-TV app availability for your region and whether the built-in sound meets your needs. Do not treat another model’s headline specification as a direct win without confirming its exact regional version.
Before purchase, confirm the model number is K-65S30, since bundles, warranty terms and availability can differ by market. If wall mounting, check the television’s VESA pattern, weight and local installation requirements against the mount and wall type before ordering.
Verdict: who should buy the Sony K-65S30?
Consider it if you want a 65-inch 4K Google TV for regular streaming, value Dolby Vision and Sony’s picture features, and are comfortable with 60Hz gaming. Look elsewhere if you prioritize 4K/120Hz, VRR or stronger dark-room performance. Its value depends heavily on your local price; the cited Sony listing figures are not interchangeable or guaranteed current offers.
