The first decision is not the logo on the bezel; it is whether you need a true 100-inch screen, documented gaming hardware, a particular smart-TV platform, an installation that fits your room, or the lowest total delivered cost. In the US models listed for this comparison, Sony offers the 100-inch-class BRAVIA 3 II (K-100XR30M2), while TCL’s substantiated alternative is the slightly smaller 98-inch QM7K (98QM7K). No exact current Hisense model appears in a current official US retail listing, so a Hisense recommendation would be premature.
Those are manufacturer specifications, not an independent head-to-head test. Confirm the country, complete model code, panel size, dimensions, VESA pattern, delivery route, installation charge, warranty and return terms before paying. A 98-inch television can be the better practical purchase if its verified features and installed cost suit your room, but it should not be described as a 100-inch set.

Identify the exact televisions before comparing them
“Sony BRAVIA 3 II,” “TCL QM7K” and “Hisense 100-inch TV” are series-level descriptions, not enough information for a safe purchase. Size, ports, software and even feature availability can change by country and by screen size. Start with the model code printed on the retailer listing and carton, then match it to the manufacturer’s regional support page.

Read Sony’s US BRAVIA 3 II product listing together with the K-100XR30M2 support specifications. TCL’s US reference is the QM7K Series page. The names are close enough to cause shopping errors, but they are not interchangeable references.

Understand what the 100-inch versus 98-inch difference means
A screen’s advertised size is its diagonal measurement. Sony’s listed model is 100-inch class; TCL’s 98QM7K has a 98-inch viewable class. The two-inch diagonal difference is real, but it does not by itself predict picture quality, viewing comfort or value. Do not use the series name, a retailer’s rounded title or a photograph to infer the actual width, height, depth or bezel size. Obtain the complete dimensional drawing for the exact model, including the stand.
If a true 100-inch image is a firm requirement—for example, to fill a fixed projection-style opening or to match an existing viewing plan—the TCL should be treated as a near-size alternative, not a match. If the room, doorway or wall is marginal, the smaller diagonal may simplify handling, but only the manufacturer’s dimensional and packaging information can establish that.
Keep regional model names separate
TCL’s global site lists a different 98-inch example, the 98C7K, with QD-Mini LED, a native 144Hz refresh rate and up to 2,048 dimming zones. TCL explicitly says specifications and features vary by size. The 98C7K page is therefore not evidence that the US 98QM7K has 2,048 zones, nor that the two televisions share every port, processor or HDR behavior.

Use the model code sold in your country and ask the retailer to confirm the suffix before ordering. A review of a 98-inch regional sibling can provide useful context, but it cannot substitute for measurements of the exact television. This is especially important for HDMI bandwidth, tuner standards, warranty coverage and smart-TV apps.
Compare the display hardware without turning specifications into a picture-quality verdict
Backlight and local dimming
TCL identifies the US 98QM7K as a QD-Mini LED television with local dimming. Mini-LED backlights can provide more finely controlled illumination than a conventional LED design, but the label does not establish black level, blooming, peak brightness or uniformity in your room. Those outcomes depend on the panel, optical layers, dimming algorithm, calibration and content.

Sony’s listed BRAVIA 3 II material identifies a 4K HDR LED Google TV. It does not, in Sony’s listed specifications, establish a directly comparable dimming-zone count or a laboratory brightness result. Do not conclude that Sony lacks a particular feature merely because it is not listed in the short product description, and do not claim that TCL is brighter or has better contrast without measurements from the exact 98QM7K.
HDR and color claims
For either set, check the detailed regional specification for the HDR formats it accepts, the picture modes available for HDR and gaming, and whether an external source is required for a particular format. Manufacturer wording such as “HDR,” “quantum dot” or “Mini LED” describes capability or design; it is not a substitute for measured HDR brightness, tone-mapping behavior, color accuracy or highlight detail.
What an independent review should measure
When a review of the exact size and model is available, look for a stated test method and separate results for SDR and HDR:
- Peak and sustained brightness in relevant windows.
- Native contrast, black level and blooming around subtitles or bright objects.
- Screen uniformity, dirty-screen effect and edge-to-edge consistency.
- Color accuracy before and after calibration.
- Reflection handling and viewing-angle behavior in your room’s lighting.
- Upscaling, motion processing and de-judder settings with broadcast and streaming material.
A 65-inch sibling may use a different panel, backlight layout or dimming system. Its measurements should not be presented as measurements of a 98- or 100-inch television.
Gaming: TCL has the clearest listed starting point
For the US 98QM7K, TCL lists a 144Hz panel refresh rate, VRR support up to 144Hz and four HDMI inputs. Those are useful starting points for a gaming comparison, but they do not reveal every supported signal combination. Verify which HDMI inputs accept the required resolution and refresh rate, whether 4K at the maximum rate requires a particular port, the VRR range, ALLM behavior, chroma support and whether simultaneous features reduce bandwidth.

For a console, check the console’s output limits and the television’s supported 4K/120Hz, HDR, VRR and low-latency combinations. For a gaming PC, confirm graphics-card output, cable standard, chroma mode and the refresh rates available at 4K. A panel’s native refresh rate and the signals it accepts are related but not identical.

Smart-TV software is similar on paper, but apps are regional
Both the Sony BRAVIA 3 II reference and TCL’s US QM7K listing name Google TV. That gives the two models a broadly similar home-screen and casting direction, but it does not guarantee identical app catalogs, tuner integrations, voice features, advertising settings or update timing. Availability can change by country, software version and licensing agreement.
- Open the app store on the exact regional listing and confirm the services you actually use.
- Check whether your preferred voice assistant, casting protocol and smart-home controls are supported in your country.
- Confirm update policy and whether the television can receive security and platform updates over your network.
- Check the number and location of USB and HDMI ports if the TV will be wall-mounted or connected to an AV receiver.
Do not treat “Google TV” as proof that every model has the same processor, storage, interface speed or long-term support.
Plan the physical installation before you buy

VESA spacing is only one part of a safe installation. Match the mount’s maximum weight and screen-size range to the exact television, then confirm wall construction, stud or masonry capacity, bolt length, edge clearances, ventilation and access to the ports. A professional installer should inspect the wall rather than relying on a generic “universal” label.

Measure the complete route
- Record the television’s packaged and unpackaged width, height, depth and weight from the exact product sheet.
- Measure the narrowest doorway, hallway turn, stair landing, lift and entry threshold, allowing room for the carton and handlers’ hands.
- Check whether the delivery vehicle can reach the entrance and whether the retailer’s service includes threshold delivery, room-of-choice placement, unpacking and packaging removal.
- Mark the wall, seating position, outlets and cable paths. Leave the clearances specified by the manufacturer and avoid blocking ventilation.
- Decide whether the stand, a low console or a wall mount is appropriate. A 100-inch-class panel can require more than one installer and a larger, stronger console than its screen diagonal suggests.
Do not schedule an installation until the delivered dimensions, weight and access plan are confirmed. Refusal at the door, damage during handling or a return that requires freight collection can cost more than a small difference in television price.
Evaluate sound and external equipment separately
The product references do not provide a comparative listening result for either television. Ask for the exact speaker configuration, supported audio formats, eARC behavior and optical or Bluetooth options in your region. If you already own a soundbar or AV receiver, verify HDMI-ARC/eARC placement and cable access before choosing a wall mount.
At this size, seating may be spread widely across the room. A television that sounds acceptable in a store can produce dialogue or bass that does not suit your space. Treat built-in audio as a separate decision from panel size and plan the cost, power and mounting location of an external system if consistent dialogue or surround sound matters.

- Television price, sales tax or VAT and any non-recurring promotion.
- Freight, oversized-item surcharge, threshold or room-of-choice delivery.
- Professional installation, wall reinforcement, mount hardware and cable work.
- Extended warranty or service-plan cost, if considered.
- Return shipping, restocking fees, pickup requirements and the damage-claim deadline.
- Replacement logistics if the panel develops a fault after the retailer’s standard return period.
Record whether a quoted price is a one-time sale, a membership price or a recurring service condition. A lower sticker price can disappear after freight and installation, while a slightly smaller 98-inch set may be easier and cheaper to deliver. Conversely, if the 100-inch diagonal is the reason you are upgrading, paying less for a 98-inch model may not satisfy the original requirement.

How to treat the Hisense market-share figure
Hisense’s June 6, 2025 US release says the company held 56.7% of global volume for televisions measuring 100 inches and larger in Q1 2025, attributing the figure to Omdia. That is the company’s report of a historical category-share statistic. It is not a current market estimate, a specific model specification, a brightness result or evidence that every Hisense 100-inch television is better value.
To add Hisense fairly, first identify the exact country and model code, then obtain the official product page and support sheet. Compare its measured or documented refresh rate, HDMI inputs, HDR support, local-dimming design, dimensions, weight, VESA pattern, smart platform, warranty and delivered price with the Sony and TCL models. Until that work is done, leave the Hisense entry open rather than filling it with a generic brand claim.
A decision framework for the three buying priorities
Choose the Sony path when a true 100-inch class is non-negotiable
The listed Sony reference is the only one in this comparison explicitly identified as a 100-inch-class television. Confirm that K-100XR30M2 is the model shipped to your country and that its 600 × 400 mm mounting layout and full dimensions fit the room. Then obtain the exact gaming, audio, HDR and price details from the regional listing before ordering.
Choose the TCL path when documented high-refresh gaming hardware leads
The US 98QM7K is the listed option with a 144Hz panel refresh, VRR up to 144Hz, local dimming, QD-Mini LED construction and four HDMI inputs. Confirm port-level signal support, input lag and the installed cost. Accept that it is a 98-inch television, not a 100-inch model, and do not import 98C7K specifications from another region.
Wait for a verified Hisense model when brand choice or price requires it
A category-share announcement cannot answer whether a particular Hisense television fits your room or outperforms either named alternative. Wait until the exact local model, official specifications, independent measurements and delivered price are available. This avoids buying on a market-share statistic that says nothing about the set in front of you.
Use this pre-purchase checklist
- Write down your country, retailer and complete model code.
- Confirm the diagonal class: Sony K-100XR30M2 is listed as 100-inch class; TCL 98QM7K is 98-inch viewable class.
- Download the exact regional specification sheet and record dimensions, stand dimensions, weight, ports, HDR formats and tuner details.
- For gaming, record supported resolution/refresh combinations, VRR range, ALLM and measured input lag from a review of the exact model.
- For picture quality, use same-method measurements of brightness, contrast, blooming, uniformity, reflection handling and viewing angle; do not substitute a smaller sibling’s results.

- Measure every delivery opening and decide who will move, unpack and mount the television.

Bottom line
