Bottom line: The Sonos Era 100 is a compact, powered speaker designed primarily for Wi‑Fi listening through the Sonos app. It adds Bluetooth 5.3 and AirPlay 2 after setup, works alone or as part of a Sonos multiroom, stereo, or compatible surround system, and accepts a turntable through an optional adapter. It is a poor choice if you need a direct TV input, an included 3.5 mm jack, or a speaker that can be configured and used without Wi‑Fi.
What the Sonos Era 100 is
The Era 100 is an all-in-one wireless speaker: amplification, speakers, networking and controls are built into one enclosure, so you only need mains power and a phone or tablet for initial setup. Sonos positions it for ordinary listening on a shelf, desk, kitchen counter or nightstand rather than as a conventional passive speaker or a TV soundbar.

Its main connection is Wi‑Fi. Sonos requires the speaker to be added to a Wi‑Fi network with the Sonos app before it can play audio. After that setup, you can stream through the Sonos ecosystem, use compatible Apple devices with AirPlay 2, or send audio over Bluetooth 5.3. Bluetooth support therefore does not mean the Era 100 is a never-configured, Bluetooth-only speaker.

A single Era 100 can fill a room by itself. A second matching unit can be bonded over Wi‑Fi as a stereo pair, and Sonos lists the Era 100 as a rear-speaker option in compatible home-theater systems using products such as Ray, Beam, Arc Ultra or Amp. Those are separate system configurations, not a direct television connection to the Era 100.

What the Era 100 can do
Stream over Wi‑Fi
Wi‑Fi is the speaker’s primary listening route. Once the app has added it to your system, you can select it as a room, group it with compatible Sonos speakers and manage playback from the Sonos app or supported music services. A normal home network is sufficient; Sonos specifically lists both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz operation and compatibility with Wi‑Fi 6 routers.
Wi‑Fi also enables the features that distinguish the Era 100 from a basic portable Bluetooth speaker: multiroom grouping, a matched stereo pair and use as part of a compatible Sonos home theater. The trade-off is that the speaker depends on a working network and the Sonos app for setup.

Play Bluetooth audio after setup
Bluetooth 5.3 lets a phone, tablet or other compatible source send audio directly to the Era 100. This is useful for guests, apps that are not integrated with Sonos, or a device that is temporarily away from your home network. It is an additional source option, not a replacement for the required first-time Wi‑Fi setup.
Use AirPlay 2 with compatible Apple devices
AirPlay 2 provides another route from compatible Apple hardware. It can be convenient when the audio is already playing on an iPhone, iPad or Mac and you do not want to find the service inside the Sonos app.

- Stream over WiFi, pair via Bluetooth, or connect a turntable and more with line in.

Control playback by touch, app or voice
Touch controls on the top handle play and pause, track skipping, volume, mute and grouping. The Sonos app provides system and room controls. Sonos also lists Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa, but the available service depends on your country and language; do not assume every voice feature is enabled in every market.
A physical microphone switch on the back disconnects power to the microphone hardware. That is different from merely muting a software-controlled microphone and gives you a hardware control when you do not want voice features active.

Two matching Era 100 speakers can be bonded over Wi‑Fi as a stereo pair. The second speaker is optional, but it materially increases the cost and requires suitable placement and power for both units.
Sonos also identifies the Era 100 as a rear speaker for a compatible Sonos home-theater system. The exact components and current setup requirements matter, so confirm compatibility for the soundbar or Amp you own before buying a pair for surround duty. The Era 100 is not itself a replacement for a soundbar or an AV receiver.
Accept a turntable or other line-level source with an adapter
The speaker can receive an analog source through USB‑C, but the required Sonos Line-In Adapter and a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable are sold separately. This makes a turntable or other line-level device possible, provided the source and cabling are appropriate. The accessory cost should be included in your budget rather than treated as an included feature.

What the Era 100 cannot do, or what buyers should not assume
It is not a direct TV speaker
Sonos explicitly says the USB‑C line-in connection is “not intended for TV.” Do not plan to run a television’s analog output into the Era 100 as a substitute for a soundbar. If your goal is television audio, use a supported Sonos home-theater configuration and verify that the products in that configuration are compatible with your television and each other.
It does not work as an unconfigured Bluetooth speaker
You cannot reliably open the box, pair a phone over Bluetooth and skip the Sonos setup. Sonos requires Wi‑Fi and the app to set up the speaker before audio playback. That requirement is the most important difference between the Era 100 and a simple portable Bluetooth model.
It does not include a built-in 3.5 mm input
There is no ordinary analog jack waiting behind a flap. The line-in route uses the USB‑C adapter plus a separate auxiliary cable. Anyone buying it specifically for a wired source should account for both accessories.
Voice features are not universal
Voice-control availability varies by language and country. Check the supported services for your location rather than assuming that Sonos Voice Control or Alexa will be available with the same capabilities everywhere.
Manufacturer sound claims are not independent test results
Sonos describes stereo separation, deep bass and a wider presentation, but the available product materials do not provide controlled independent listening comparisons. Treat those descriptions as Sonos’s positioning, not as laboratory performance results.

How to set up an Era 100
Have the speaker, its power cable, a compatible phone or tablet, your Wi‑Fi credentials and internet access ready. The current Sonos app is required.
- Place the Era 100 near an outlet and within reliable Wi‑Fi coverage. Leave room around the enclosure rather than wedging it tightly into a corner.
- Connect the supplied power cable and wait for the status light to indicate that the speaker is ready for setup.
- Install or update the current Sonos app on your compatible phone or tablet.
- Open the app, sign in or create the required Sonos account, and choose the option to add a product.
- Follow the in-app prompts to join the Era 100 to your 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network. A Wi‑Fi 6 router is supported, but the speaker still needs normal network access and internet connectivity.
- Assign a room name and complete any requested software update. Keep the phone close to the speaker while the app finishes configuration.
- Test playback from the Sonos app before trying Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, grouping or voice control. This confirms that the basic network setup is working.
- For Bluetooth, select the Era 100 from your device’s Bluetooth menu after setup. For AirPlay 2, choose the speaker from the AirPlay control on a compatible Apple device.
If setup fails
- Confirm that the phone is on the same home network you intend to use for the speaker and that the router is providing internet access.
- Move the speaker closer to the router temporarily, especially if the initial setup stalls or the app cannot find it.
- Check that the app is current and that your phone or tablet meets its compatibility requirements.
- Temporarily disable network features that isolate wireless clients; guest networks can prevent the app from discovering the speaker.
- After setup succeeds, return the speaker to its intended room and retest playback before adding a second unit.
Placement and everyday use
Sonos recommends ordinary surfaces such as a bookshelf, kitchen counter, desk or nightstand. The six-foot cable gives some flexibility, but the Era 100 remains an outlet-powered speaker rather than a battery model. Plan the location around both power and Wi‑Fi coverage.
A single unit is the simplest arrangement and avoids the cost and placement decisions of a second speaker. If you later add another Era 100, place the pair with similar height and spacing and use the app to bond them as a stereo pair. Do not buy a second unit solely because the first one needs more volume; the principal benefit is left-right stereo separation and system expansion.
An optional Era 100 wall mount is available as an accessory. Confirm that a mount is specifically compatible with the Era 100 and check current availability before ordering; the speaker’s dimensions and weight should be matched to the mount’s specifications.

Yes, but not directly through a built-in 3.5 mm port. You need the Sonos Line-In Adapter and a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable, both sold separately. Connect the turntable or other suitable analog source to the adapter, connect the adapter to the speaker’s USB‑C line-in path, and select the line-in source in the Sonos system.

Check the turntable’s output type before buying anything. A turntable that needs a phono preamp must have one built in or use an appropriate external preamp before the signal reaches the Era 100’s line-in accessory. Sonos’s explicit warning about TV still applies: this input is intended for compatible audio sources, not television sound.
Can you use the Era 100 as a TV speaker?
Not as a direct TV-connected speaker through the line-in accessory. Sonos says that connection is not intended for TV. If you already own compatible Sonos home-theater equipment, the Era 100 can be considered as part of the supported system, including rear-speaker use with listed products such as Ray, Beam, Arc Ultra or Amp. Confirm the exact combination and current software requirements before purchasing.
If your only requirement is better television dialogue from one box, choose a product designed for direct TV connection instead. The Era 100’s strengths are networked music, multiroom playback and expansion inside the Sonos ecosystem.

Costs and upgrade planning
Sonos’s U.S. product page listed the Era 100 at $219 when accessed in 2026. That is a time-specific listing, not a permanent MSRP; check the current local price, taxes, delivery charges and return terms before ordering.
Budget separately for a Line-In Adapter and 3.5 mm cable if you plan to connect a turntable or other analog source. A second Era 100 roughly doubles the speaker purchase cost, although the exact total depends on the current price in your market. A wall mount is another optional expense. These additions are worthwhile only when they solve a specific need: analog input, stereo separation or a particular installation location.
Who should buy the Era 100?
Choose it if you want a compact powered speaker that belongs to a broader Sonos system, are comfortable with app-based setup, have dependable Wi‑Fi, and value the ability to use Wi‑Fi streaming, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2. It is especially sensible when you may add a matching speaker for stereo or already have compatible Sonos home-theater equipment.
Look elsewhere if your first requirement is a direct television input, if you expect a built-in analog jack, or if you need a speaker that can be used without any Wi‑Fi-based configuration. Also verify voice-service availability before making voice control part of your purchase decision.

The Era 100 makes the most sense as a networked music speaker and as an expandable building block. Its feature set is broad once configured: Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay 2, touch controls, optional voice control, stereo pairing and supported surround use. The boundaries are equally clear: Wi‑Fi/app setup is mandatory, analog input costs extra, and Sonos does not intend that line-in connection for TV. Buy it for the ecosystem and expansion path, not as a standalone TV speaker or no-setup Bluetooth box.
