Sonos Arc Ultra adds a newer driver design, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, Android Trueplay support in Sonos’s comparison listing, and four Speech Enhancement levels; the original Sonos Arc has fewer listed drivers and a taller, narrower body. Both connect to a TV over HDMI eARC/ARC and support Dolby Atmos. Choose Ultra if its documented extras and lower profile justify the higher verified price for you; choose Arc if you find it at a substantially better price and its feature set meets your needs. Sonos’s listed US prices were $1,099 for Ultra and $899 for Arc, but prices and availability can change.
What is different between Sonos Arc Ultra and Arc?
The headline differences are the Ultra’s Sound Motion architecture, Sonos’s 9.1.4 spatial-audio description, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, expanded Trueplay device support in Sonos’s comparison listing, and four customizable Speech Enhancement levels. The original Arc has fewer listed drivers, Wi-Fi, and Speech Enhancement in the Sonos app.

| Feature | Sonos Arc Ultra | Sonos Arc | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drivers | 14 Sonos-engineered drivers, including Sound Motion | 11 drivers, including two dedicated height channels | The architecture differs, but driver count alone does not establish how much better either bar will sound in your room. |
| Immersive audio | Sonos describes a 9.1.4 spatial-audio experience with Dolby Atmos | Dolby Atmos with upward-firing drivers | These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent channel measurements. |
| Dialogue settings | Four customizable Speech Enhancement levels | Speech Enhancement in the Sonos app | Ultra offers more adjustment levels on paper; no independent comparative dialogue test is available here. |
| Wireless connectivity | Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth | Wi-Fi | Ultra adds Bluetooth according to Sonos’s product listing. |
| TV connection | HDMI eARC/ARC | HDMI eARC/ARC | Both use the TV’s compatible HDMI port and included HDMI cable. |
| Trueplay listing | iOS and Android | iOS | Check Sonos’s current device requirements before relying on support for a particular phone or tablet. |
| Dimensions and weight | 46.38 × 2.95 × 4.35 in; 13.01 lb | 44.96 × 3.43 × 4.57 in; 13.78 lb | Ultra is wider, shorter, and slightly lighter. Measure the shelf, wall, or space below your TV. |
| US listed price | $1,099 | $899 | These are prices shown on Sonos’s US listings when checked for this comparison; confirm current price and stock before buying. |
Does Arc Ultra sound better?
Sonos presents Ultra as a newer and more feature-rich soundbar, but the specifications do not prove that it will sound better to every listener. The driver count and 9.1.4 description are manufacturer claims; they are not a substitute for a controlled head-to-head listening test or measurements in your room. Sonos’s Arc Ultra fact sheet also says its Sound Motion woofer doubles bass output compared with Arc. Treat that as Sonos’s claim, not an independently verified result: Sonos Arc Ultra fact sheet.

For a feature-based decision, Ultra’s extra dialogue levels may matter if you often adjust speech clarity, while Bluetooth may be useful if you want a connection option beyond Wi-Fi and the TV’s HDMI link. If your priority is proven audible superiority, the available specifications alone cannot settle the question.

Which Sonos soundbar should you buy?
Choose Arc Ultra if
- You want the newer listed driver architecture and Sonos’s 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos presentation.
- You value Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, or the Android Trueplay support shown in Sonos’s comparison listing.
- You want four Speech Enhancement levels.
- The lower-profile height fits your installation better, and its wider body still fits the available space.
Choose the original Arc if
- You find it at a substantially lower, verified price than Ultra.
- Its listed features—Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi, HDMI eARC/ARC, and app-based Speech Enhancement—cover what you need.
- You have a supported iOS device for the Trueplay support listed for Arc, and do not need the Ultra’s listed Bluetooth or Android Trueplay support.
Sonos’s Arc Ultra fact sheet gives October 29, 2024 as the start of availability in its named launch markets and records a US launch price of $999. That is historical launch information, not a current price. Sonos’s later US product listings showed $1,099 for Ultra and $899 for Arc; the Arc page was out of stock when checked for this comparison. Availability and pricing can change, so compare the live listings before deciding.
Will either fit your TV setup?
Both soundbars connect to the TV’s HDMI eARC/ARC port using the included HDMI cable. Check that your television has a compatible port and that your furniture or mounting position accommodates the bar’s width and height. Ultra is 1.42 inches wider and 0.48 inches shorter than Arc, so a tight shelf or a low space beneath the screen can make the physical difference more important than the feature list.

Sonos describes Arc Ultra as compatible with a Sonos Sub and Era 300 rear speakers for an expanded Dolby Atmos system. These are optional additions, not requirements for using the soundbar.
Should you upgrade from Sonos Arc to Arc Ultra?
An upgrade is easiest to justify if you specifically want Ultra’s added Bluetooth, its listed Android Trueplay support, more Speech Enhancement levels, or its shorter profile. If you are satisfied with your Arc and are considering a change mainly for a guaranteed improvement in sound, Sonos’s specifications do not establish that outcome. Compare the price of the upgrade with the features you would actually use rather than treating the newer model or higher driver count as proof of a worthwhile upgrade.
