At the US list price of $449, however, it is not an automatic pick: reviewers say some competitors still sound better, and the headphones do not fold fully for travel. Sonos lists the model as generally available from September 29, 2026.
What’s new, and what does it cost?
The Ace Ultra is a distinct successor, not a renamed version of the original Sonos Ace. Sonos describes it as its newest premium over-ear headphones. Its US product page listed it at $449 when checked on October 8, 2026; prices and availability vary by region and can change. Sonos announced general availability beginning September 29, 2026.

The package includes the headphones, travel case, USB-C-to-USB-C cable, USB-C-to-3.5 mm cable, and setup and legal materials. Sonos lists four finishes: Black, Soft White, Agave, and Sand. The headphones weigh 0.71 lb (0.322 kg).
How good is the sound?
Independent reviews agree that the Ace Ultra sounds better than the first Ace, but they do not put it decisively ahead of the competition. TechRadar reports a notable gain in musicality, openness, organization, and detail. What Hi-Fi? also calls the sound a marked improvement, while judging it short of the class leaders. TechRadar says the Sony WH-1000XM6 and Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 can still edge it on sound quality.
#1 Best Overall
- Sonos-designed driver for deep, rich, detailed sound.
- High-resolution wireless audio with ultra-low latency.
- Up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.
- Up to 35 hours of battery with ANC on.
- Adaptive EQ tunes the sound based on your fit and movement.
Sonos specifies a 40 mm driver designed by the company. That hardware detail does not establish how it will sound to every listener: music choice, fit, and personal preference all matter. The review evidence supports a clear step forward from the original Ace, not a claim that the Ace Ultra is the best-sounding premium wireless headphone.
Is the fit comfortable?
Comfort is one of the Ace Ultra’s strongest reported qualities. What Hi-Fi? describes its upgraded cushions as softer, plusher, and more forgiving. TechRadar found a secure, comfortable fit during extended wear. Those are reviewers’ experiences rather than a guarantee: head shape, glasses, and how the headphones sit can affect comfort.

The cushions attach magnetically, according to What Hi-Fi?, and Sonos says both the ear cushions and battery are designed to be swapped out. Sonos lists replacement cushions as an accessory. Check current availability and exact model compatibility before buying parts.

What do the noise cancellation and battery claims mean?
Sonos lists Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), an Aware mode, and ten microphones. It also claims “Up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.” That is a manufacturer comparison; the reviewed sources do not provide an independent, standardized ANC-reduction figure to verify it against competitors.

- High-resolution wireless audio with ultra-low latency.
- Up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.
- Up to 35 hours of battery with ANC on.
- Adaptive EQ tunes the sound based on your fit and movement.
Sonos rates listening time at up to 35 hours with ANC or Aware mode enabled. The company also says a three-minute charge from 0% can provide up to three hours of playback. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled battery run-down test in the reviewed coverage. Real-world results may vary with settings and use.
Why buy these for a Sonos system?
The strongest reason to choose the Ace Ultra over a premium headphone without Sonos integration is its role in a Sonos home setup. Sonos highlights TV audio transfer, Dolby Atmos, spatial audio, and dynamic head tracking. Its product page describes sending audio from Sonos speakers to the headphones and back with a press. For someone who already owns compatible Sonos products, that can make the headphones useful for private movie listening as well as music.

- SPATIAL AUDIO | Enjoy an industry-leading Dolby Atmos experience with dynamic head tracking.

- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION | World-class ANC neutralizes external sounds for maximum immersion.

Sonos also lists Bluetooth 6.0, USB-C and 3.5 mm connections, adaptive and adjustable EQ, and TV audio transfer. Headphone Linking is marked Early Access and subject to change, so treat it as a feature in development rather than a fixed long-term capability. Confirm compatibility with your particular Sonos equipment before purchase.

Are they practical for travel?
The included travel case protects the headphones, but the Ace Ultra does not fully fold. Both What Hi-Fi? and TechRadar note the limitation; TechRadar points out that more compact options exist for travelers with tight bag space. If portability is a priority, consider how much room the headphones and case will take in your usual bag.
