Something Is Killing the Children: A Gridstorm Game is a tabletop card battler based on James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s comic series. Tiny Onion and Wayves Creative Co. plan to launch it on Kickstarter in 2027. The announcement describes a head-to-head game built around a grid, with one player controlling Hunters and the other Monsters; it does not yet provide a campaign date, price, or complete rules.

What is Something Is Killing the Children: A Gridstorm Game?

It is the first announced game set in the Slaughterverse, the world of the Something Is Killing the Children comic. The game is described as a grid-based, one-versus-one card battler in which players use character effects and positioning to pursue opposing goals. The announcement-level description comes from Graphic Policy’s October 6, 2026 report; it is not a full rulebook or an independent assessment of how the finished game plays.

BOOM! Studios describes the comic as following monster hunter Erica Slaughter and the Order of St. George. Its official series page credits James Tynion IV as writer and Werther Dell’Edera as artist.

How is the game supposed to play?

The announced setup puts two sides against each other. Hunters use stealth and maneuvering to save children, while Monsters use predatory instincts to capture them from a distance. Each deck is described as containing characters and creatures from the series.

Those details establish the broad premise, not the final mechanics. The available announcement does not specify turn structure, card counts, board dimensions, game length, or rules complexity, so none of those can yet be assessed.

Who is making it?

Wayves Creative Co. is designing the game, Werther Dell’Edera is credited with the art, and Tiny Onion is handling card design. The announcement also says the companies intend to develop additional games based on Tiny Onion titles using Wayves’ Gridstorm engine and mechanics.

In an October 1, 2026 Comics Beat report, Tiny Onion Director of Narrative and Editor-in-Chief Eric Harburn said the company had long wanted to bring the series to tabletop gaming and was pleased to share plans. That is a statement of creative intent, not a commitment to particular game specifications or a release schedule beyond the announced campaign plan.

When will it come out, and what is known about the campaign?

The companies plan a Kickstarter campaign in 2027. No specific launch date or price has been announced in the reporting reviewed. The announcement also does not establish a shipping region, age recommendation, component list, final playtime, or post-campaign retail release. There is no confirmed Amazon listing in the available information.

What is the Erica Slaughter trading card?

Comics Beat reported on October 1, 2026 that BOOM! Studios’ Something Is Killing the Children #50 Cover C Blind Bag Variant would include an exclusive Erica Slaughter trading card tied to the game. The article gave October 7, 2026 as the issue’s comic-shop date. That date has passed, so availability and remaining stock depend on individual comic shops; the report does not establish current availability.

The same article quoted James Tynion IV describing the blind-bag program as including cover art and a guaranteed trading card for the then-upcoming game. The card is a comic issue tie-in, not evidence of the full game’s contents or an announced retail bonus.
