eFootball lag on PS5 can show up as delayed passes, sluggish player switching, stuttering animations, rubber-banding, or matches disconnecting at the worst possible moment. Because online performance depends on Konami’s servers, your opponent’s connection, PSN, your home network, and the console itself, the fix is usually a process of narrowing down where the delay is coming from.
This guide walks through the most useful checks first: server and matchmaking conditions, PS5 connection tests, router and Wi‑Fi improvements, NAT issues, input lag settings, updates, and deeper fixes like DNS changes, port forwarding, database rebuilding, or reinstalling the game. If eFootball mullayer remains unstable after the local fixes, you’ll also know when it’s time to escalate the issue to Konami or PlayStation Support.

Check eFootball Server Status and Matchmaking Conditions
Before changing PS5 settings or resetting your router, confirm that the problem is not coming from eFootball’s online services. Mullayer lag, failed matchmaking, sudden disconnects, and “connection quality” warnings can happen during scheduled maintenance, emergency maintenance, live updates, heavy event traffic, or regional server instability. If the servers are under load, your home connection may test perfectly while online matches still feel delayed or unstable.

Look for maintenance windows, known online match issues, and announcements about updates affecting matchmaking. Konami often posts information around weekly maintenance, new season rollouts, campaign launches, and temporary restrictions. If you started lagging immediately after a large update or during a popular event, wait and test again later before assuming your PS5 or network is the cause.

- Check in-game notices: Open eFootball on PS5 and review the information panel or news section for maintenance, server issues, or online mode restrictions.
- Check the official eFootball website: Look for current service status, maintenance schedules, update notes, and known issue posts.
- Check official social channels: Konami and eFootball accounts may post emergency maintenance or outage updates faster than the website.
- Compare with other players: If friends in the same region are also seeing lag, long matchmaking, or disconnects, the issue may be server-side.
Matchmaking conditions also matter. eFootball online performance depends on who you are matched with, their connection quality, distance, and the current player pool. A match against a nearby opponent with a stable wired connection usually feels much better than a match across regions or with an opponent using congested Wi-Fi. If the game shows connection bars or a connection quality indicator before the match, avoid accepting poor-quality matches when possible.
Pay attention to patterns across different online modes. If lag only happens in one event, league, co-op mode, or at a specific time of day, the cause may be matchmaking load or the type of opponents being found. If every online mode stutters but offline matches run smoothly, focus on network and server troubleshooting. If offline gameplay also feels choppy, skip ahead to PS5 performance settings, display settings, and game data fixes.
| Symptom | Likely Cause | What to Try First |
|---|---|---|
| Long matchmaking times | Low player pool, strict matchmaking, regional timing, or maintenance | Try another mode, change matchmaking range if available, or test at a busier time |
| Lag only during peak hours | Server load or local ISP congestion | Test late night or off-peak, then compare PS5 speed and ping behavior |
| Input delay only in online matches | Opponent connection quality, routing, or server latency | Avoid low-quality matches and test with nearby friends if possible |
| Disconnects after an update | Temporary service instability or new game data issue | Check official notices and install any follow-up patch |
If the servers are confirmed stable and other players are not reporting the same problem, move on to testing your PS5 internet connection. A clean server status check helps narrow the issue to your network, router, NAT type, console settings, or local game installation instead of chasing temporary eFootball service problems.

After ruling out a wider eFootball server problem, check whether your PS5 connection is stable enough for online matches. eFootball can feel laggy even when your download speed looks high, because mullayer performance depends more on latency, jitter, packet loss, and connection consistency than raw bandwidth. A PS5 connected to a busy Wi-Fi network may stream games or downloads quickly but still suffer from delayed passes, late player switching, or sudden match stutters.
On your PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Review the results for connection type, sign-in status, NAT Type, download speed, and upload speed. For eFootball, aim for a stable connection with low latency, no packet loss, and enough upload capacity for real-time gameplay. Sony’s built-in test does not show everything, so also run a speed and latency test from a phone or computer connected to the same network, preferably near the console.
- Download speed: Useful for updates, but not the main cause of online match delay. Anything comfortably above 25 Mbps is usually enough if the line is stable.
- Upload speed: More relevant for online play. Try to keep at least 5 Mbps available, with no cloud backups or uploads running in the background.
- Ping/latency: Lower is better. High ping often causes delayed inputs and slow reactions in multiplayer matches.
- Jitter: Fluctuating latency can make gameplay feel inconsistent, with moments of smooth play followed by sudden stutters.
- Packet loss: Even a small amount can cause freezes, disconnects, or unresponsive controls during online matches.
If you are using Wi-Fi, switch to a wired Ethernet connection if possible. Connect a LAN cable from your router to the PS5, then go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection and select Set Up Wired LAN. A wired connection usually gives lower latency and fewer spikes than Wi-Fi, especially in apartments, shared houses, or areas with many nearby wireless networks.
If Ethernet is not practical, improve your Wi-Fi setup before blaming the game. Move the PS5 closer to the router, keep it away from thick walls, metal furniture, and other electronics, and avoid placing the router inside a cabinet. Use the 5 GHz band for faster, cleaner performance at shorter range, or 2.4 GHz if the console is far from the router and signal strength is weak. On supported routers, separating the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks into different names can help you force the PS5 onto the better band instead of letting it switch automatically.

Reduce Network Congestion During Matches
Online football games are sensitive to other devices using the same connection. Before playing ranked or event matches, pause large downloads on the PS5, stop game updates, and close streaming apps. Ask others on the network to avoid 4K streaming, video calls, torrenting, cloud sync, or large uploads while you play. Also check Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 control center and pause anything active before launching eFootball.
| Symptom | Connection Check | Best First Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Delayed passes or shots | High ping or jitter | Use Ethernet or move closer to the router |
| Freezing during online matches | Packet loss or weak Wi-Fi signal | Restart router and improve signal strength |
| Disconnects from matches | Unstable line or NAT issue | Retest connection and check router settings |
| Slow matchmaking or failed connection | PSN sign-in, NAT Type, or server route | Run PS5 network test and try wired LAN |
Once changes are made, restart eFootball and test several online matches rather than judging from one game. Match quality can vary depending on opponent location and matchmaking conditions, so look for a consistent pattern. If wired LAN, reduced network traffic, and a clean PS5 connection test do not improve stability, continue with router, NAT Type, and console-level fixes next.

Fix Router, Wi-Fi, and NAT Type Problems
If your PS5 speed test looks fine but eFootball still feels delayed, the problem may be packet loss, weak Wi-Fi, router congestion, or a restrictive NAT type. eFootball is sensitive to short connection drops because online matches need a steady stream of data, not just high download speed. A connection that can stream video smoothly can still cause late player switching, delayed passes, and stuttering during mullayer.
Power cycle your network properly
- Turn off your PS5 completely, not Rest Mode.
- Unplug your modem and router from power for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug in the modem first and wait until it is fully online.
- Plug in the router and wait for Wi-Fi and internet lights to stabilize.
- Start the PS5 and test eFootball again in an online match.
This clears temporary routing issues, overloaded memory on the router, and stale device sessions. If several phones, TVs, PCs, or consoles are active on the same network, pause large downloads, cloud backups, 4K streaming, and game updates while playing. Even one device uploading video or syncing files can create high latency and make eFootball feel unresponsive.

A wired Ethernet connection is the best fix for unstable eFootball matches on PS5. Connect the PS5 directly to the router using a Cat 5e, Cat 6, or better cable, then go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection and choose the wired connection. If you must use Wi-Fi, place the PS5 closer to the router, avoid hiding the router in a cabinet, and keep it away from thick walls, microwaves, cordless phones, and Bluetooth-heavy areas.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if the PS5 is near the router and you want lower interference.
- Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only if the console is far away or behind several walls.
- Separate Wi-Fi bands in your router settings if your PS5 keeps switching between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
- Avoid Wi-Fi extenders when possible, as they often add latency even when signal bars look strong.
Check NAT Type on PS5
On your PS5, open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection and look at NAT Type. For eFootball mullayer, NAT Type 2 is usually ideal. NAT Type 1 can also work, but it normally means the console is directly exposed to the internet. NAT Type 3 is the one most likely to cause matchmaking failures, disconnects, voice chat issues, and unstable peer connections.
| NAT Type | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Type 1 | Open connection, often direct to modem | Usually playable, but not necessary for most homes |
| Type 2 | Router is allowing required traffic | Best target for stable online play |
| Type 3 | Restricted traffic or double NAT | Enable UPnP, remove double NAT, or forward ports |
Log in to your router and make sure UPnP is enabled, as this lets the PS5 request the ports it needs automatically. If your home setup uses both an ISP modem-router and your own router, you may have double NAT. In that case, set the ISP device to bridge mode, put your own router in the ISP device’s DMZ, or use only one router for the network. After each change, restart the router and PS5, then run the PS5 connection test again before retrying eFootball mullayer.
Reduce Input Lag and Performance Issues on PS5
If your connection tests look healthy but eFootball still feels delayed, the problem may be local input lag or display latency rather than pure network lag. In online matches, this can feel like slow passing, late player switching, delayed shots, heavy dribbling, or stutters during transitions. Start by separating controller and display delay from mullayer connection issues: play an offline Trial Match or training session and compare responsiveness. If offline play also feels sluggish, focus on PS5, controller, and TV settings before changing more network options.
Use the lowest-latency display setup
TV processing can add noticeable delay, especially if motion smoothing or picture enhancement features are enabled. On your TV or monitor, switch to Game Mode for the HDMI input used by the PS5. Disable features such as motion interpolation, noise reduction, dynamic contrast, edge enhancement, and “cinema” processing modes. If your display supports HDMI 2.1, connect the PS5 directly to the TV with a suitable HDMI cable rather than routing through an older soundbar, receiver, or HDMI switch that may add latency or limit video features.
- Set the PS5 HDMI input on your TV to Game Mode or Low Latency Mode.
- Use the original PS5 HDMI cable or a certified high-speed cable.
- Connect directly to the display when testing, then reintroduce receivers or capture devices later.
- Check that your TV firmware is current, especially on newer 120 Hz or VRR-capable models.
Adjust PS5 video and controller settings
On PS5, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and use settings your display handles reliably. If you notice flickering, stutter, or black-screen handshakes, temporarily turn off VRR, set 120 Hz Output to Automatic only if your display supports it properly, and test eFootball again. eFootball does not need experimental display behavior to feel responsive; stability is more valuable than forcing every possible video feature.
For the DualSense controller, connect it with a USB-C cable and test a match or training session. Then go to Settings > Accessories > Controller and, if available, set the communication method to use USB when wired. Also make sure the controller firmware is updated when the PS5 prompts you. If you use wireless audio, third-party adapters, or mulle Bluetooth devices nearby, test with them disconnected to rule out interference or device-related delay.

Keep the console cool and reduce background load
Stuttering can appear when the PS5 is hot, storage is nearly full, or the system is juggling downloads and background installs. Place the console in an open, ventilated area with several inches of clearance around the vents. Avoid enclosed TV cabinets during long sessions. Before playing ranked or event matches, pause downloads and uploads from the PS5 downloads menu, close other running games or media apps, and leave enough free storage space for updates and cache activity.
- Restart the PS5 fully instead of using Rest Mode before a long online session.
- Pause active downloads, cloud sync activity, and game updates while playing.
- Free up storage if the internal drive is close to full.
- Test eFootball after the console has cooled down if stutter appears after extended play.
Finally, check whether the issue happens in every stadium, camera angle, or match type. Some users notice smoother play with a simpler camera setup or fewer visual distractions on screen. If offline gameplay is smooth but online matches still feel delayed, the remaining cause is more likely matchmaking distance, server load, packet loss, or NAT routing rather than PS5 performance. In that case, continue with game updates, advanced network fixes, and escalation steps rather than repeatedly changing display settings.
Update eFootball, PS5 System Software, and Game Data
Outdated game files, old PS5 firmware, or corrupted local data can cause eFootball to stutter, disconnect from online matches, show unstable matchmaking behavior, or feel delayed even when your internet connection is fine. Before moving on to advanced network changes, make sure the game and console are fully updated and that the local data eFootball uses to launch and connect is in good shape.
Update eFootball on PS5
Konami frequently releases updates for eFootball that adjust online stability, matchmaking, gameplay responsiveness, squad data, and compatibility with current servers. If your installed version is behind, online features may not work correctly or may behave inconsistently.
- Go to the PS5 home screen and highlight eFootball.
- Press the Options button on your controller.
- Select Check for Update.
- If an update is available, download and install it completely before launching the game.
After the update finishes, restart the game rather than resuming it from Rest Mode. A fresh launch helps ensure the latest game files and online configuration are loaded properly.

Update PS5 System Software
PS5 system updates can include fixes for network performance, controller communication, storage behavior, Rest Mode stability, and online service compatibility. These changes can affect mullayer games like eFootball, especially if the console has been running for a long time without a full restart.
- Open Settings from the PS5 home screen.
- Go to System > System Software.
- Select System Software Update and Settings.
- Choose Update System Software.
- Select Update Using Internet and install any available update.
Once the update completes, power the PS5 off fully, wait around 30 seconds, then turn it back on. This clears temporary system states that can sometimes contribute to laggy menus, delayed game launches, or unstable online sessions.
Check eFootball Live Updates and In-Game Data
eFootball also relies on live in-game data for events, teams, squads, forms, and online mode availability. Even if the main application is current, the game may still need to download live updates after launch. Open eFootball while connected to PlayStation Network and let it reach the main menu without skipping prompts. If the game asks to apply live updates or download additional data, accept the download and wait for it to finish.
If online matches still feel broken after updates, close the game and relaunch it from the PS5 home screen. Avoid suspending eFootball in Rest Mode for long periods, especially across maintenance windows or after a new patch. Resuming an old session can leave the game connected to outdated online data until it is restarted.

Clear Problematic Saved or Cached Game Data Carefully
If eFootball started lagging, freezing, or failing to connect after a patch, local data may be damaged. You can review the game’s saved data from Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5). Before deleting anything, upload your saved data to cloud storage if you have PlayStation Plus, or copy supported data to USB where available.
Do not delete data unless you understand what it contains. Some eFootball progress and online information is tied to your Konami account or server-side profile, but local settings and files may still affect your preferences or installation behavior. If you only want a safer first step, restart the console, update the game, and let eFootball rebuild its temporary online data on launch.
- Update the game first: this ensures compatibility with current eFootball servers.
- Update PS5 firmware next: this addresses console-level stability and network fixes.
- Restart after updates: this prevents old suspended sessions from causing connection issues.
- Handle saved data cautiously: back up before deleting anything tied to your profile or settings.
Advanced Fixes: DNS, Port Forwarding, Rebuild Database, and Reinstall
If eFootball still lags on PS5 after checking servers, connection speed, NAT type, Wi-Fi quality, and updates, move on to deeper fixes that target routing, corrupted cache data, and installation problems. These steps are more involved, so apply them one at a time and test eFootball after each change. If performance improves, you will know which adjustment helped instead of changing several settings blindly.
Change DNS settings on PS5
A slow or unreliable DNS server can make sign-ins, matchmaking, and some online services feel inconsistent, even if your download speed looks fine. DNS usually will not fix raw ping by itself, but switching to a stable public DNS can help if your ISP’s DNS is causing delays or failed lookups. On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, select your active connection, press the options button, and choose Advanced Settings. Set DNS Settings to Manual, then try one of these pairs:
| Provider | Primary DNS | Secondary DNS |
|---|---|---|
| 8.8.8.8 | 8.8.4.4 | |
| Cloudflare | 1.1.1.1 | 1.0.0.1 |
| Quad9 | 9.9.9.9 | 149.112.112.112 |
After saving the DNS change, run Test Internet Connection on the PS5, then launch eFootball and play a few online matches at the same time of day you usually have problems. If one DNS option causes slower PSN sign-in or unstable party chat, switch back to Automatic or try another provider.
Use port forwarding only if NAT or matchmaking is still problematic
If your PS5 shows NAT Type 3, frequent disconnects, or difficulty joining online sessions, port forwarding may help create a cleaner route for PlayStation Network traffic. First, assign your PS5 a static IP address in your router’s DHCP reservation menu. Then forward the common PSN ports to that PS5 IP address: TCP 80, 443, 3478-3480 and UDP 3478-3479. Some routers also work well with UPnP enabled instead of manual forwarding, but avoid using UPnP and duplicate manual rules if your router behaves unpredictably.
Do not place the PS5 in a router DMZ unless you understand the security trade-off and have already tried safer options. If you use two routers, a modem-router plus a separate mesh system, or an ISP gateway with your own router behind it, you may have double NAT. In that case, put the ISP gateway into bridge mode, set your own router as the main router, or ask your ISP how to remove the extra NAT layer.
Rebuild the PS5 database and clear system cache
Stuttering, menu freezes, long loading, or odd behavior after patches can come from cached data or a messy storage database. Turn off the PS5 completely, then hold the power button until you hear the second beep to enter Safe Mode. Connect the controller with a USB cable and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Start with Clear System Software Cache, then return and choose Rebuild Database if problems continue. This does not delete your games or saves, but it can reorganize the home screen and may take several minutes.
Reinstall eFootball as a last local fix
If only eFootball has issues while other online games run normally, the local game installation may be damaged. Upload or sync your save data first through Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then delete eFootball from the PS5 home screen or storage menu. Restart the console, reinstall the game, download all updates, and test online play before changing more settings. If lag, stutter, or input delay remains after DNS changes, NAT cleanup, database rebuilding, and a clean reinstall, the cause is more likely server routing, ISP congestion, regional matchmaking, or an account-specific issue that needs escalation.

When to Contact Konami or PlayStation Support
If eFootball still lags, disconnects, or fails to complete online matches after you have tested your PS5 connection, improved your router setup, updated the game, and tried advanced fixes, it is time to escalate the issue. Contacting the right support team matters: Konami can investigate eFootball account, matchmaking, server, and in-game error problems, while PlayStation Support is better suited for PSN connectivity, console software, hardware, storage, and account-level network restrictions.
Contact Konami support if the issue appears specific to eFootball
Reach out to Konami when other online PS5 games work normally but eFootball continues to have unstable matches. This includes repeated disconnections from online events, error codes shown only inside eFootball, missing rewards after abandoned matches, matchmaking that never completes, or severe lag that happens across mulle opponents and times of day. Konami may also need to check whether there is a known regional server problem, maintenance issue, or account-related restriction affecting online play.
- Collect your eFootball user ID: You can usually find it in the game’s account, profile, or support-related menus.
- Write down exact error messages: Include error codes, disconnect messages, and whether the match counted as a loss.
- Record when it happens: Note your region, date, time, online mode, and whether it occurs during matchmaking, kickoff, halftime, or late in the match.
- Describe your network setup: Mention wired or Wi-Fi, NAT Type, download/upload speed, and whether other games are stable.
Contact PlayStation Support if PSN or the console is also affected
PlayStation Support is the better option if you see PSN sign-in errors, party chat drops, store connection failures, license issues, or unstable mullayer across several games. You should also contact them if your PS5 frequently loses internet access, fails network tests despite a working router, crashes during online play, or shows system error codes. These symptoms may point to a console software issue, PSN account problem, storage corruption, or hardware fault rather than an eFootball-only problem.
| Situation | Best support option |
|---|---|
| Only eFootball disconnects or shows in-game error codes | Konami support |
| Multiple online games lag or fail to connect | PlayStation Support or your ISP |
| PSN sign-in, party chat, or store access is unstable | PlayStation Support |
| High ping, packet loss, or outages appear on all devices | Your internet service provider |
Before opening a ticket, take screenshots or short video clips of the problem where possible. Include the troubleshooting steps you already completed, such as switching to Ethernet, restarting the router, checking NAT Type, changing DNS, rebuilding the PS5 database, or reinstalling eFootball. Clear evidence helps support avoid repeating basic steps and makes it easier to identify whether the fault is with the game service, PSN, your console, or your internet route to the servers.
If support confirms there is no account or server issue, ask your ISP to check for packet loss, unstable latency, routing problems, or congestion during the times you play. eFootball can feel unplayable even when speed tests look fine, because real-time mullayer depends more on stable ping and low packet loss than raw download speed. Combining Konami’s response, PS5 network test results, and your ISP’s line checks gives you the best chance of isolating the remaining cause.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is eFootball lagging on PS5 even though my internet speed is fast?
High download speed does not always mean a stable online match. eFootball is more sensitive to ping, packet loss, jitter, NAT type, Wi-Fi interference, and server distance than raw speed. Test your connection on the PS5, use a wired Ethernet connection if possible, and avoid downloads or streaming on the same network during matches.
What NAT type is best for eFootball multiplayer on PS5?
NAT Type 2 is usually the best and most realistic target for PS5 online play. NAT Type 3 can cause matchmaking problems, disconnects, voice chat issues, or unstable peer connections. If you see NAT Type 3, enable UPnP on your router, restart the router and console, or consider port forwarding for PSN and eFootball-related traffic.

Changing DNS can help if your current DNS server is slow or unreliable, but it will not fix every lag problem. It may improve login, matchmaking, or server lookup times, while in-match lag is usually more related to ping, packet loss, Wi-Fi quality, or Konami server conditions. You can try trusted DNS options such as Google DNS or Cloudflare DNS, then test several matches to compare stability.
How do I reduce input delay in eFootball on PS5?
Use Game Mode on your TV or monitor, disable extra image processing settings, and connect your controller with a USB cable if you suspect wireless delay. In the PS5 settings, make sure performance-related options are configured properly and close background apps before playing. If the delay only happens online, the issue is more likely network latency than controller or display lag.
What should I do if eFootball online matches are still unstable after trying everything?
Check Konami’s server status and community reports to see if other players are having the same issue. If the problem continues only on your account, console, or network, collect details such as error codes, NAT type, connection test results, match times, and screenshots. Contact Konami support for game-specific issues, and contact PlayStation Support if PSN connectivity, account access, or PS5 network features are also affected.
Bottom Line
If eFootball is lagging on PS5, start with the basics: test your connection, use a wired LAN if possible, restart your router, and make sure the game and console software are fully updated. If the issue only appears in online matches, also check eFootball server status, matchmaking conditions, and whether other devices on your network are using heavy bandwidth.
