Spoiler warning: This ranking covers the completed original Solo Leveling story, including developments beyond the currently adapted anime. Anime-only viewers have a smaller evidence set.
On the available canon descriptions and named-shadow rankings, Bellion is the strongest shadow soldier. Beru and Igris occupy the next tier and are best treated as a close, story-dependent comparison rather than a settled one-versus-two result. Tusk ranks below them overall, but his magic and shamanistic abilities make him unusually valuable in situations where raw melee strength is not the deciding factor.

There is no official numerical power score for Jinwoo’s shadows. The order below is therefore a qualitative judgment using listed grade, demonstrated combat role, versatility, and the point in the story being compared.
Quick ranking: who is Jinwoo’s strongest shadow?
| Rank | Shadow | Best-supported position | What separates the shadow |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bellion | Grand Marshal in the named-shadow table | Highest listed grade and the broadest case for overall supremacy |
| 2 | Beru | Marshal | Ant King origin, extreme combat ability, and adaptability |
| 3 | Igris | Marshal | Top-tier close-combat specialist whose placement against Beru changes with the comparison |
| 4 | Tusk | Grade is inconsistent across reference material | Magic and shamanistic utility rather than straightforward melee dominance |
The table is an editorial ranking, not an official chart published by the author. The available shadow table places Bellion above Beru, Igris, and Tusk, while the character material describes Beru as below Bellion and rivaled by Igris. Tusk’s placement is more secure as a role-based conclusion than as a grade-based one.

How this ranking is judged
A shadow’s rank label is useful, but it is not the same thing as a universal win probability. A grade can indicate status in the army while leaving unanswered questions about matchup, terrain, preparation, and the point in Jinwoo’s growth at which the fight occurs.
Listed rank
The named-shadow table gives Bellion the Grand Marshal designation and Beru and Igris the Marshal designation. Those labels establish a hierarchy in the reference material, but they do not provide a numeric gap between characters. Tusk is the warning against treating labels as infallible: one character reference calls him General Grade in prose, while the shadow table labels him Marshal.
Combat performance
Combat performance asks what a shadow can actually do in a fight: survive pressure, threaten a superior opponent, adapt when a plan fails, and continue operating against different kinds of enemies. The evidence available for Beru and Igris supports a very high tier for both, but does not settle a permanent winner between them.
Versatility and role
A specialist can be more useful than a nominally stronger fighter in the right assignment. Tusk’s magic, for example, gives Jinwoo options that a purely physical attacker cannot duplicate. That tactical value raises Tusk’s importance without proving that he should move above the Marshal shadows in an all-purpose ranking.

Story point
Comparisons must identify when they occur. A conclusion based on an early anime appearance cannot automatically be applied to the completed manhwa or novel story. Jinwoo’s army changes as he acquires and develops shadows, and later-story status should not be projected backward onto an earlier encounter.
1. Bellion: the strongest shadow soldier
Bellion is the clearest choice for first place because the named-shadow table gives him the highest listed grade, Grand Marshal. That is stronger evidence than a fan estimate based on a single scene, and it places him above the Marshal tier occupied by Beru and Igris.
Why Bellion leads the list
- He is the only one of these four identified as Grand Marshal in the cited shadow ranking.
- The comparative material places Beru below Bellion.
- His status is not dependent on giving Tusk a particular grade, which is disputed between references.
Bellion’s first-place case should still be phrased carefully. “Strongest” here means the best-supported overall position in the completed original-series hierarchy, not an official score or a guarantee that he wins every possible encounter. The source material does not publish a quantified difference between Grand Marshal and Marshal, nor does it provide a tournament-style record for every shadow.

What Bellion’s rank does not prove
A higher army grade does not make every tactical question trivial. An opponent who can attack from outside normal melee range, exploit a weakness, or force a particular battlefield condition might create a difficult matchup. Nothing in the available references supports converting Bellion’s title into a percentage chance or a universal statement that he cannot be challenged.

2. Beru: the Ant King and an adaptable Marshal
Beru is listed as Marshal-grade and identified as the shadow of the Ant King. His strongest argument for second place is not a measurable statistic; it is the combination of extraordinary combat ability, adaptability, and a stated position below Bellion but in rivalry with Igris.
Why Beru is above Tusk overall
Beru’s role is that of a direct high-end combatant. He is built for pressure, pursuit, and rapid adjustment when an enemy changes tactics. That makes him the safer choice when the question is simply, “Which shadow should Jinwoo send to win a difficult physical fight?” Tusk can change the shape of a battle with magic, but the available comparative descriptions do not place him above Beru in general power.
Is Beru stronger than Igris?
There is no official answer that permanently settles this question. The character material says Beru is rivaled by Igris and surpassed by Bellion; the shadow table lists both Beru and Igris as Marshal. Those facts justify treating them as adjacent peers, not declaring an absolute order for every stage of the story.

If the comparison emphasizes adaptability and the ability to adjust during a chaotic battle, Beru has the stronger argument. If it emphasizes a particular close-combat exchange or the version of each character at a specific story point, Igris may look equal or superior. A responsible answer must name the criterion instead of presenting a fan ordering as canon.

3. Igris: a Marshal whose exact place depends on the matchup
Igris shares the Marshal designation with Beru, which puts him firmly in the top group of named shadows. The available evidence does not establish that he is always below Beru, and it does not establish that he is always above him. His third-place position here is therefore a practical ordering for a general list, not a definitive statement about every duel.
Why Igris remains a top-tier shadow
Igris is repeatedly treated as one of Jinwoo’s premier personal fighters, and the comparative reference explicitly presents him as Beru’s rival. That rivalry matters more than an invented numerical gap: it tells readers that the two belong in the same conversation while Bellion occupies the higher listed tier.
How story point changes the answer
Anime viewers may know Igris from an earlier stage of Jinwoo’s development, before the full hierarchy of the completed army is visible. Later manhwa or novel comparisons include information that the anime has not yet adapted. When someone asks whether Igris beats Beru, first specify whether the question concerns the anime’s current coverage or the completed original story.

Tusk ranks fourth in an overall strength list, but that position should not be mistaken for low usefulness. His defining advantage is a magical and shamanistic toolkit that gives Jinwoo area control, ranged pressure, and options that do not depend on winning a conventional melee exchange.

The grade conflict
One character reference describes Tusk as General Grade, while the named-shadow table labels him Marshal. Because those descriptions conflict, no definitive grade should be stated without checking the relevant primary story text. The disagreement is itself important: it means a ranking that relies only on the table can overstate certainty.
Why his role still matters
Tusk can be the best choice for a task that rewards magical reach, crowd control, or a specialized answer to an enemy’s defenses. In a party-style operation, that utility may matter more than a simple one-on-one ladder. The fourth-place ranking answers the broad question of overall standing; it does not say Tusk is the fourth-most-useful shadow in every mission.
Anime-only ranking versus completed-story ranking
The official anime site identifies season two as Arise from the Shadow and lists episode 19, “The 10th S-rank Hunter.” That establishes the adaptation’s naming and episode context, not a canonical power chart for the shadows.
What anime-only readers can safely conclude
- Igris is established as an important early shadow, but the anime may not yet show the complete hierarchy.
- Later appearances and status changes from the manhwa or novel should not be treated as anime-established facts.
- A question framed as “Who is strongest?” needs an adaptation boundary: current anime, completed manhwa, or the full original story.
What full-series readers should keep separate
The completed original series supports the broad order Bellion first, Beru and Igris next, and Tusk below them. It does not support a universal numeric score, and it does not eliminate the need to distinguish rank from matchup performance.
How to compare any two shadow soldiers
Use the following sequence instead of relying on a single fan tier list.
- Set the canon boundary. State whether the comparison is anime-only or includes the completed manhwa and novel material.
- Record the listed grade. Treat the grade as evidence of hierarchy, not as a complete battle calculation.
- Identify the combat role. Separate melee specialists from magical or support-oriented shadows.
- Compare demonstrated capabilities. Ask which shadow has shown the relevant durability, adaptability, reach, or control for the scenario.
- Name the conditions. Terrain, preparation, distance, allies, and the version of Jinwoo’s army can change the result.
- State uncertainty plainly. If the source material calls two shadows rivals, preserve that uncertainty instead of manufacturing a precise winner.
Common mistakes in Solo Leveling shadow rankings
- Confusing a grade with a score: Grand Marshal and Marshal are labels, not published numbers.
- Ignoring Tusk’s conflicting descriptions: the General Grade prose and Marshal table cannot both be treated as an uncontested fact.
- Blending adaptations: a scene absent from the current anime cannot be cited as anime evidence.
- Ranking utility as raw strength: Tusk’s magic can decide a mission without making him stronger overall than Beru or Igris.
- Forcing Beru versus Igris into a permanent answer: the available descriptions support rivalry and a close tier, not an official fixed order.
Final verdict
For the completed original Solo Leveling story, Bellion is the strongest-shadow pick because he alone holds the highest listed Grand Marshal grade. Beru and Igris are the leading Marshal shadows and should be treated as near-peers whose order depends on story point and comparison criteria. Tusk comes next in overall standing, while his magic makes him a valuable specialist. This is a qualitative, source-limited ranking—not an official numerical power scale.
