Why the Shanghai event was postponed
Liu said the postponement was a capacity and compliance decision, not a change to the event’s subject matter. In a statement posted on October 16, she wrote: “Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we had registered with local authorities, and we had no way to prevent people from overwhelming the venue.”

She added that the organizers were postponing “in order to comply with local requirements” and to hold the event when they could better accommodate the size of the community. Her explanation identifies two connected problems: demand rose sharply after promotion, and the resulting crowd would have exceeded the attendance limit declared to local authorities.
What was scheduled in Shanghai
Shanghai was the first stop on a four-city Solana Accelerate China tour. The published agenda was aimed at developers, entrepreneurs, investors and technology teams, with sessions covering infrastructure, developer tooling, artificial-intelligence agents, robotics, physical AI, payments, hardware and consumer technology.

The broader program also focused on helping products move from local markets to global ones. Those themes remain part of the announced agenda, but the Shanghai session did not proceed on its scheduled date.
Was the event shut down by police?
Early attendee reports described the morning sessions as postponed for “logistical considerations at the venue.” Accounts also said people were waiting outside and that law-enforcement officers could be seen nearby. Those observations do not establish that authorities ordered a shutdown.

Liu’s later explanation was specific: registrations exceeded the cap reported to local authorities, and the organizers postponed the event to comply with local requirements. Unless a primary authority publishes a different account, it is more accurate to describe the incident as an organizer-led postponement caused by oversubscription and venue-capacity constraints, rather than a confirmed police closure.
What happens to the other China stops?
The published tour schedule listed four dates:

The Shanghai postponement does not by itself prove that the Hangzhou, Shenzhen or Beijing meetings were canceled. However, no authoritative update in the available information confirmed that those dates would proceed, so attendees should treat their status as subject to change and check the organizers’ latest notices before traveling.

When will the Shanghai event be held?
No new Shanghai date was announced in Liu’s October 16 explanation. The organizers said they intend to postpone the event until they can accommodate the breadth and scale of the community while meeting local requirements, but they did not provide a timeline, venue or replacement registration process.

What attendees should know
- Do not assume an existing Shanghai registration transfers automatically to a future date; the organizers have not stated how tickets or registrations will be handled.
- Verify any replacement date and venue through an official Solana event notice before making travel arrangements.
- Check the status of the Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing stops immediately before attending because the available schedule had not been confirmed after the Shanghai postponement.
- Separate confirmed information from eyewitness descriptions: the registration surge and attendance-cap explanation came from Liu, while reports of officers at the venue did not prove an official shutdown order.
