The bottle is a functional acoustic chamber, not a drinking container. At £64.99 on the current UK product page, however, it is a niche design rather than an obvious value winner: independent reviews found clear vocals, excellent portability and long battery life, but mixed bass results, a high price for the sound, and weaker weather protection than many rivals.
What the Sodapop speaker is
Sodapop is a 300 g Bluetooth speaker built around a screw-on bottle concept. Its patented design connects the speaker to a standard bottle, which serves as both a low-frequency acoustic chamber and a protective carrying case. You can use the speaker without a bottle; attaching one changes the way it produces bass.

The core hardware is conventional apart from that bottle interface: Bluetooth 5.0, two 4.5 W stereo drivers, a 10 W amplifier, USB-C charging, a 3.5 mm analogue input and claimed frequency response of 100 Hz–20 kHz. Two Sodapop speakers can be paired in TWS (True Wireless Stereo) mode.
Does the bottle really improve the bass?
Yes, the bottle has an acoustic purpose. Sodapop says the attached bottle acts as a low-frequency resonator and can produce up to 8 dB greater loudness at the same input level. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified measurement.

Independent testing supports the basic effect: WIRED reported that the bottle boosts bass, while Tom’s Guide found that the amount and character of bass varied by song. In practice, the bottle can make a small speaker sound fuller, but it does not turn it into a conventional subwoofer. Results depend on the bottle, its fit and the recording. Tracks mixed with restrained low end may show little benefit, while bass-heavy music can sound more substantial.
With the bottle attached
- More perceived low-end output and a fuller presentation on suitable tracks.

Can you use another soda bottle?
The concept is intended for a standard bottle, but “standard” does not guarantee universal compatibility. Neck diameter, thread pattern, bottle stiffness and the condition of the seal all matter. Use a clean, undamaged plastic bottle that fits the Sodapop connector securely; do not assume that glass bottles, unusually wide or narrow necks, carbonated bottles under pressure, or every regional bottle design will work.

The bottle is an acoustic accessory and carrying shell, not a container that should remain filled while connected. Check that the bottle is dry and firmly attached before carrying the speaker. If the fit is loose, distorted or leaks, stop using that bottle.
Battery life and charging
Sodapop lists a 1,600 mAh rechargeable battery and more than 30 hours of continuous playback. That is the manufacturer’s rating; actual runtime changes with volume, Bluetooth conditions, temperature, music content and whether the bottle configuration affects listening levels. Treat 30-plus hours as a best-case published figure rather than a guaranteed runtime at maximum volume.

How portable is it?
At 300 g, the speaker itself is unusually light. Its bottle-based case can make it easier to carry without a separate protective pouch, but an attached bottle adds bulk compared with the bare speaker. This design suits day trips, picnics and travel where packability matters more than room-filling output.

Water and dust protection: read the ratings carefully
Weather resistance is the main area where the published information is not consistent. The manufacturer’s home material refers to an IP65 claim, while Tom’s Guide described IPX5-level protection. Those ratings are not interchangeable: IPX5 addresses water jets but does not state a dust rating, whereas IP65 includes dust protection and water-jet protection.

Keep it away from pools, the sea, showers and standing water, and protect the USB-C port from moisture before charging. For beach use, sand and splashes are a greater concern than a brief light shower; a conventional speaker with a clearly documented higher rating may be safer for sustained outdoor exposure.

Sodapop is a real acoustic idea, not a gimmick: attaching a suitable bottle can increase perceived bass from a very small speaker. Its 300 g weight, wired input, TWS option and claimed 30-plus-hour battery make it practical for light travel. The trade-off is value and ruggedness. Independent reviews agree that the bottle changes the sound, but they do not agree that it beats ordinary speakers at this price; WIRED’s 4/10 rating is a clear warning for sound-first buyers, while Tom’s Guide’s more positive assessment suits buyers who prioritize portability. Buy it for the bottle-assisted design and compactness, not because it is the best all-purpose outdoor speaker.
