If audio and video drift apart in a Snipping Tool recording, there is no documented Snipping Tool setting that Microsoft identifies as a guaranteed sync fix. Start by isolating whether the problem involves microphone narration, system audio, or both, then check Windows microphone access, input selection, and general audio health.
First, identify which audio is out of sync
Make two short recordings under similar conditions: one with microphone input and, if the recording controls allow it, one without. Note whether the sound is delayed from the start or gradually drifts farther out of sync. This comparison is a diagnostic suggestion, not an official Snipping Tool test procedure.

Select and test the intended microphone
- Open Settings > System > Sound > Input.
- Select the microphone or headset you intend to use.
- Use Windows’ microphone test: start the test, speak, stop it, and play back the sample. If the sample itself sounds wrong, troubleshoot the input device before drawing conclusions about Snipping Tool timing. Microsoft’s microphone guidance describes the test and input settings.
Run Windows’ general audio troubleshooting
For audio problems in Windows 11, Microsoft directs users to the audio troubleshooter in Get Help. Follow its prompts, then make another short recording to check the result. Check drivers only when there is a related symptom
If the issue began after an update, or Windows no longer detects the microphone or another audio device, check the device in Device Manager and look for an appropriate current driver from your PC or audio-device manufacturer. Use this path when the detection or driver symptom is relevant; do not uninstall or replace drivers indiscriminately. Microsoft’s microphone troubleshooting page includes device and driver checks.
Use a different recording workflow if the clip is still unusable
Microsoft documents an editing route from a video snip: “When you finish recording a video snip, select the Edit in Clipchamp button to add Captions or Audio.” Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions describe that option. Editing audio in Clipchamp is an alternative, not evidence that it automatically repairs desynchronization.
