That difference alone does not establish how much faster one phone will feel, how well either chip sustains performance, or which will last longer on a charge. The available benchmark results cover a OnePlus 15R with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, but do not provide a controlled, directly comparable score for an 8s Gen 3 phone.
What are the main specification differences?
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 on November 26, 2025, positioning it as a premium smartphone platform. Its custom-built Oryon CPU reaches peak speeds of up to 3.8 GHz, according to Qualcomm’s launch announcement. Qualcomm’s current Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 product page lists a CPU speed of up to 3 GHz, 4 nm process technology, and a Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System.

| Test | OnePlus 15R result |
|---|---|
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 2,691 |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 9,502 |
| 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited | 4,669 points / 27.96 fps |
Those are results for the tested OnePlus 15R and its test conditions, not universal Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 scores. The reviewed TechRadar passage identifies the OnePlus Nord 5 as a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 phone but does not provide a directly comparable benchmark result. The available evidence therefore does not establish an exact percentage advantage for either chip.
Why clock speed and isolated scores do not settle the comparison
Maximum CPU clock is one specification, not a measure of complete phone performance. Geekbench CPU tests and 3DMark graphics tests exercise different workloads; neither alone predicts daily responsiveness, gaming performance, battery life, or sustained speed. Cooling design, power limits, memory configuration, software version, and performance settings can all affect a handset’s results.

A sound numerical comparison requires the same benchmark version on similar devices, documented software and performance settings, and repeated runs that account for cooling and sustained behavior. The cited results do not offer that kind of same-lab comparison between Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
Is Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 the same as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5?
No. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 are distinct names. Qualcomm’s announcement describes Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 as a premium offering intended to broaden the range of premium smartphones; it does not identify it as the Elite model. Do not treat the two names as interchangeable when comparing phone specifications.

What should you compare when choosing a phone?
Choose between actual handsets rather than relying on the processor name alone. Compare results from named tests and versions where available, then weigh phone-level factors that can change the experience:
- Sustained performance and heat during longer workloads.
- Battery life measured under comparable use.
- Modem and connectivity support in the specific model.
- Camera and display implementation.
- Software support, price, and availability in your region.
The OnePlus 15R is an example of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone with published review benchmarks. The OnePlus Nord 5 is an example of a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 phone, but the cited review material does not give a matched score. Local specifications and availability can vary, so check the precise model sold in your market.
