Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9200+: specifications
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the newer platform: Qualcomm announced it on November 26, 2025, while MediaTek announced Dimensity 9200+ on May 10, 2023. Their CPU architectures and supporting components differ, so clock speeds alone are not a useful way to predict which phone will be faster.

How do the CPU and GPU designs differ?
CPU: different core arrangements
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 pairs two Oryon prime cores with six Oryon performance cores. Dimensity 9200+ uses an Arm-based mix of one Cortex-X3, three Cortex-A715 and four Cortex-A510 cores. The designs, core counts and operating frequencies differ, but those details alone do not demonstrate real-world speed, efficiency or sustained performance.
Qualcomm reports that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 improves CPU performance by 36% over Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That is Qualcomm’s previous-generation comparison, not a measurement against Dimensity 9200+. The figure is described in Qualcomm’s November 2025 announcement.

GPU: Adreno versus Immortalis
Qualcomm identifies an Adreno GPU and describes ray-tracing and gaming features for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Dimensity 9200+ uses an 11-core Immortalis-G715. MediaTek’s stated 17% GPU boost is versus its own predecessor; it is not a claim that Dimensity 9200+ is 17% faster than Snapdragon. Qualcomm’s reported 11% graphics improvement is likewise versus its previous generation, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, rather than Dimensity 9200+.
The available information does not provide a controlled head-to-head gaming test, sustained frame-rate comparison, thermal-throttling result or power-draw comparison for these chips. A game’s performance depends on the phone’s cooling and tuning as well as the chip, so peak specifications and manufacturer generation-to-generation claims cannot settle which one games better over a long session.

What do the connectivity, imaging and AI features mean?
Both platforms list support for sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G, and both include Wi-Fi 7 in their published feature lists. MediaTek’s launch material also lists Bluetooth 5.3. Qualcomm names the X80 5G Modem-RF and FastConnect 7900; MediaTek describes its modem as Release 16. These are platform capabilities, not a guarantee that every phone supports every band or feature. Check the exact handset model and regional variant before relying on a connectivity specification.
The platforms also use different imaging and AI blocks: Qualcomm lists Spectra ISP features and a Hexagon NPU, while MediaTek lists the Imagiq 890 ISP and APU 690. Qualcomm reports a 46% Hexagon NPU performance improvement over the previous generation; that is not a direct comparison with MediaTek’s APU, and the available figures do not establish which chip performs better on a shared AI workload. Camera results and available processing features depend on the phone maker’s camera hardware, software and implementation.
Which phone should you buy?
Choose between specific phones, not processor names in isolation. The available specifications and benchmark snapshot favor Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, but they do not establish a winner for battery life, heat, sustained gaming, camera quality, software support or value. Compare the exact devices you can buy in your market and check:
- Thermals and sustained performance: Look for testing of the exact phone, not just its chip. No controlled comparison here resolves which platform runs cooler or sustains higher performance.
- Battery life: Compare phone-level tests and battery capacity. The platform specifications do not establish which chip uses less power in a comparable handset.
- Connectivity: Confirm the exact model’s supported bands and regional configuration, especially if you need mmWave or particular 5G bands.
- Cameras and software: Evaluate the handset’s camera implementation and update policy rather than inferring them from the ISP or NPU name.
- Price and availability: Check current local listings. The comparison source’s device examples do not verify current stock, price or market availability.
91mobiles lists Vivo V40 Pro, Vivo T3 Ultra, iQOO Neo 8 Pro and Xiaomi 13T Pro as Dimensity 9200+ examples, and Motorola Signature and OnePlus 15R as Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 examples. Treat these as examples from that comparison page, not confirmation of current availability; verify the exact model and market before deciding. The chip comparison cannot determine which phone is the better purchase without those handset-level details.
