In 91mobiles’ published AnTuTu comparison, the tested Elite Gen 5 phone also scored higher. Those specifications and results point to an advantage for newer-chip phones, but they do not guarantee the same uplift—or better value—in every handset.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs 8 Gen 3: specifications
Qualcomm’s platform listings show the main headline differences below. Clock speeds are platform ceilings, not a promise that every phone will run at that frequency. Qualcomm advises readers to consult the phone maker’s specifications for device capabilities.

How to interpret Geekbench results
Geekbench’s live Android tables list results for individual devices rather than one universal score for each processor. At the time the tables were accessed on October 7, 2026, examples using Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 included OnePlus 15, vivo iQOO 15, and Honor Magic8 Pro. Examples using Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 included Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. Results differ by phone and benchmark category, so compare the exact handset entries and the same Geekbench version and test.
These listings are device observations, not a controlled test of the two chips under identical cooling, software, memory, and power conditions. The Geekbench Android benchmark tables can change as more devices and submissions appear.

What benchmark scores do—and do not—tell you
CPU performance
For a meaningful CPU comparison, use results from the same benchmark version and category, and identify the exact phone tested. Qualcomm’s higher listed clock ceiling for the Elite Gen 5 is a specification difference; it does not, by itself, establish how much faster a particular phone will feel in everyday use.
GPU and sustained gaming
A short benchmark score cannot establish sustained gaming performance. Heat, cooling design, game settings, and a phone’s power behavior can change performance during a long session. The available comparison figures do not provide matched long-duration gaming tests for these platforms, so they do not support a precise gaming-uplift claim.
Power efficiency and battery life
A process-node listing alone does not tell you how long a phone will last between charges. Battery capacity, screen, software, radio use, and manufacturer tuning all matter. The published figures here are not matched battery tests, so use reviews or measurements for the exact phone models you are considering.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose between complete phones, not processor names in isolation. The Elite Gen 5 is the newer flagship platform, and the published AnTuTu examples favor it, but a Gen 3 phone may still be the better purchase if its overall package and price suit you better.
- Compare the exact models’ prices, regional variants, cooling, battery capacity, display, cameras, and software-support commitments.
- For performance, prioritize same-version benchmark results from the particular phones you might buy; check both short-run scores and credible sustained-use testing.
- Look at the phone maker’s specifications for device-level capabilities, rather than assuming a platform listing applies identically to every model.
Qualcomm announced the Elite Gen 5 in September 2025 and described it as a premium flagship platform, with devices expected from multiple global OEMs. That is Qualcomm’s positioning and announcement, not an independent assessment of every phone built around it. Qualcomm’s September 2025 announcement provides that launch context.
