The Dimensity 7300X and Snapdragon 778G have different strengths, but available evidence does not establish a reliable benchmark winner between them. MediaTek specifies a newer 4nm-class process, four Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.5GHz, and dual-display support for flip phones; Qualcomm specifies a 6nm process, a Kryo 670 CPU up to 2.4GHz, and Adreno 642L graphics. Those platform figures do not guarantee how a particular phone performs.

Snapdragon 778G vs Dimensity 7300X: specifications

The specifications below are platform capabilities published by the chipmakers. Phone manufacturers decide which features to implement, so a listed capability is not a promise about every handset.

Which chip is faster?

The published specifications do not settle that question. The Dimensity 7300X has a higher listed maximum clock for its Cortex-A78 cores and a 4nm-class process, while the Snapdragon 778G uses a different CPU design and a 6nm process. Clock speed and process labels alone cannot predict a phone’s everyday speed, sustained performance, or battery life: the handset’s cooling, software, power limits, and implementation also matter.

No controlled benchmark result for this exact pair is established in the available sources. A surfaced comparison reports on the Dimensity 7300—not the 7300X—alongside the Snapdragon 778G. Its scores should not be treated as results for the 7300X. The 91mobiles comparison identifies the other chip designation.

Both companies publish performance or efficiency claims, but their claims are not neutral, same-phone tests of these two chips. Without a controlled comparison under comparable handset conditions, there is no sound basis here for naming a benchmark winner.

How their graphics, connectivity, and displays differ

Graphics and AI

The Snapdragon 778G pairs Qualcomm’s Adreno 642L GPU with a Hexagon 770 AI engine. The Dimensity 7300X uses a Mali-G615 GPU and MediaTek NPU 655. The different GPU families are a useful specification distinction, but they do not by themselves establish which phone will deliver better gaming performance; a phone’s cooling and power settings affect sustained results.

5G

Qualcomm lists the Snapdragon X53 modem with mmWave and Sub-6 GHz support. MediaTek specifies a 3GPP Release 16 modem for the 7300X, with up to 3.27Gbps downlink and 3CC carrier aggregation. The maximum is a platform specification, not a promise of the speed you will receive. For a purchase, check the exact phone’s supported bands against the networks available in your location.

Display capabilities

Both platforms list support for Full HD+ displays at up to 144Hz. MediaTek also lists WFHD+ at up to 120Hz and specifically supports dual displays for flip-style foldables. Actual screen configuration and supported modes depend on the phone maker’s design.

What the “X” means for the Dimensity 7300X

MediaTek announced the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X on May 30, 2024, describing the 7300X as designed with flip-style foldable devices in mind. Its dual-display support is the key distinction to look for; it does not mean every 7300X phone will have the same display arrangement. MediaTek’s announcement describes the positioning, while its current product specifications list display capabilities.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose between actual handset models, not processor names in isolation. Compare the features that shape your use of the phone:

  • Sustained performance: Look for device-specific testing or reviews that assess performance over time, rather than relying on peak clock figures.
  • Thermals and battery life: Cooling design, battery capacity, software, and power limits influence how a phone handles demanding tasks and how long it lasts.
  • Camera implementation: The sensor, lenses, image processing, and manufacturer tuning matter alongside the chip.
  • Screen and form factor: If you want a flip-style phone with an outer display, check how the specific model implements its screens.
  • Software support and price: Compare the support commitment and total price of the handsets you can actually buy in your region.
  • Network compatibility: Confirm the handset—not just its chipset—supports the 5G bands used by your carrier.

Neither chip is an ordinary user-upgrade for a phone. The relevant decision is which complete handset best fits your needs.
