First identify which sound is missing: Snapchat notification alerts, audio recorded in video Snaps, or sound playing inside the app. These problems have different causes. Follow the matching checks below; the official guidance does not establish one cause unique to the Galaxy S23.
Snapchat notification alerts are silent
If a message or alert appears but makes no sound, check Snapchat’s notification permission and the phone’s alert settings.

- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications > Snapchat and allow notifications. If notification categories are available, open the relevant category and enable its alerts and sound. If categories are not visible, Samsung says to look under Notifications > Advanced settings > Manage notification categories for each app and enable category management. Menu names can vary by One UI version. See Samsung’s notification troubleshooting guide.
- Check that Do Not Disturb is not silencing notifications, and raise the Notifications volume at Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume.
- Confirm that Mute all sounds is off at Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Mute all sounds. Samsung notes that low notification volume can make an alert visible but inaudible.
Samsung also documents Sound, Vibrate, and Mute modes, app-specific notification sounds, and Do Not Disturb exceptions in its Galaxy sound settings guidance. Separate app sound is for routing an app’s media audio to a connected Bluetooth device separately from other sounds; it is not a fix for silent notification alerts.

If the videos you record in Snapchat are silent, check the recording path rather than notification settings.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
- Make sure the phone is not in silent mode and its volume is not muted.
- Allow Snapchat to use the microphone. On Android, review Snapchat’s permissions in the phone’s app settings; Snapchat describes microphone access as the permission used to record audio in Snaps and video chat. Its Android permissions guide explains how to change app access.
- Record a short clip with the phone’s native camera or make a voice recording. Snapchat recommends this comparison: if those recordings also have no sound, the problem may involve the device, and Snapchat advises contacting the manufacturer. If they do have sound, continue with checks specific to Snapchat.
These checks follow Snapchat’s guidance for video Snaps without sound.
Sound inside Snapchat is not playing
If notification alerts and recorded video audio work but sounds inside Snapchat do not, check the phone’s sound mode and volume, then consider whether audio is being routed to a connected Bluetooth device. Samsung’s sound settings guidance describes Separate app sound as a way to send an app’s media sound to a Bluetooth device independently of other audio. It is a routing setting, not evidence of a Snapchat defect.

When the problem seems limited to Snapchat
For a Snapchat feature that remains broken after the relevant permission and sound checks, Snapchat recommends updating the app, fully closing and reopening it, restarting the phone, and checking the internet connection. If the feature still fails, report it in Snapchat at Settings > Support and Safety > Bugs and Suggestions > Report a Bug. See Snapchat’s app troubleshooting guidance.
