If you cannot sign in, use Snapchat’s official reset or compromised-account support pages—not a “hacker,” unlocker, or person requesting your login code. Snapchat does not provide a legitimate way to access somebody else’s account, and its Terms of Service prohibit unauthorized access.
What “Snapchat hacked” can mean
People use “hacked” for several different problems. An account is compromised when someone unauthorized accessed it, but a failed login can also result from a forgotten password, a lost phone number, a temporary security lock, an unauthorized plug-in, or a permanent policy lock. Snapchat treats these as separate account-access issues.

A single unfamiliar location is not conclusive: a new phone, travel, VPN, or network change can produce a legitimate alert. Treat several unexpected changes together—especially unknown sessions, altered recovery details, and unauthorized activity—as a stronger indication of takeover.
Signs your account may be compromised
- An email or in-app alert reports a login from an unfamiliar device, location, or IP address.
- An unknown device appears in Session Management.
- Your email address, phone number, display name, or two-factor authentication setting changed without your permission.
- Spam, suspicious Snaps, chats, Stories, Spotlight posts, or friend requests were sent from your account.
- Friends report strange messages or unexpected contacts.
- Snapchat repeatedly signs you out.
- You receive an unexpected Download My Data notification.
- Someone uses private account details to contact you outside Snapchat.
Ask friends not to click links or send money based only on a message claiming to be from you. Check your own account alerts and settings before concluding that a friend’s report proves a takeover.

If you can still log in
- Change the password. Use a long, unique password that has never been used for email, social media, gaming, or another service. Change reused passwords on those services too.
- Check recovery details. In Snapchat Settings, confirm that the email address and mobile number still belong to you. Correct unauthorized changes if the app allows it.
- End unknown sessions. Open Settings and look for Session Management (the label can vary by app version, device, language, and region). Sign out devices you do not recognize.
- Turn on 2FA. Snapchat supports SMS codes and codes from an authenticator app. Choose a method you can maintain reliably; 2FA reduces risk but cannot stop phishing, a compromised device, an email takeover, or a SIM swap.
- Store the recovery code securely. If Snapchat offers a recovery code, keep it in a private password manager or other protected location—not a public note, shared chat, or accessible screenshot. Snapchat says Support does not assist with lost recovery codes.
- Remove unofficial tools. Delete unauthorized third-party apps, plug-ins, modified clients, and extensions that interact with Snapchat. Update the official app before trying to sign in again.
After these steps, review recent chats, Stories, Spotlight posts, friends, and profile changes. Save evidence before deleting anything if the account was used for fraud, threats, extortion, or abuse.
If you cannot log in
You still control the verified email or phone
- Open the official Snapchat Accounts Portal.
- Enter the linked email address or phone number and choose Forgot Password.
- Request the one-time reset link or code by email or SMS and follow Snapchat’s instructions.
Once access returns, change the password, verify both recovery methods, end unfamiliar sessions, enable 2FA, and warn contacts that recent messages may not have been genuine.
The attacker changed your email address or phone
Use Snapchat’s official compromised-account form and, where applicable, the I can’t access my account guidance. Submit the request from an email address you currently control and provide accurate details Snapchat asks for, such as your username and approximate date access was lost. Never provide your password or My Eyes Only passcode; Snapchat says its representatives do not need either.

You lost both recovery methods
Snapchat says it cannot reset the password or replace the email address or phone number when you no longer have access to the associated recovery methods. Recover the email account through its provider first, and contact your mobile carrier if the number or SIM may have been taken over. Secure every service that reused the same password, then submit only the official Snapchat request. Restoration is not guaranteed.
You have 2FA but no code
Depending on your settings, a login code comes by SMS or is generated by an authenticator app; it is not sent by email. Snapchat says Support cannot send a code to an unverified phone number and does not provide help for lost recovery codes.
Temporary lock, permanent lock, or compromise?
Temporary lock
Unauthorized third-party apps or plug-ins can trigger a temporary lock, as can other security or policy events. Remove the unofficial software, update the official Snapchat app, and follow the waiting period shown in the app or email. Snapchat’s help material says to wait 48 hours in some temporary-lock situations; that is not a promise for every lock.

Permanent lock
A permanent lock means Snapchat says the account activity violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Check the app for an appeal option if one is offered. Do not install an “unlocker” or modified client.

Protect the email account and phone number
Email account
- Change its password and enable 2FA.
- Review recent sign-ins, active sessions, forwarding rules, recovery addresses, connected apps, and browser sessions.
- Contact the email provider if recovery information changed.
An attacker who controls your email can repeatedly reset Snapchat, so email security is part of Snapchat recovery rather than a separate task.
Phone number and SIM
A SIM swap, port, eSIM change, or carrier-account takeover can divert SMS codes. Contact the carrier’s fraud or account-security team, add or strengthen the carrier account PIN, and ask whether recent number-transfer activity occurred. Prefer an authenticator app over SMS where you can safely maintain it, while keeping recovery information protected.

Recognize phishing and fake support
Never give anyone your password, Snapchat login code, or My Eyes Only passcode. Treat these as scams:
- A person claiming to be Snapchat Support through Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, or an unsolicited Snapchat message.
- Requests to forward a verification code or click an urgent login link.
- Demands for cryptocurrency, gift cards, or an upfront recovery fee.
- Links that do not lead to an official Snapchat or Snap domain.
- Threats that your account will be deleted unless you act immediately.
- “Hack generators,” password viewers, spyware, monitoring apps, browser extensions, or paid account-unlock services.
Snapchat’s compromised-account guidance says representatives will not ask for your password or My Eyes Only passcode. The Federal Trade Commission likewise advises using official recovery procedures and enabling 2FA rather than handing credentials to intermediaries.

After you recover the account
- Change the Snapchat password again if you suspect it was exposed.
- Change every reused password on other services.
- Secure the email account and carrier account.
- Confirm Snapchat’s email address and phone number.
- Terminate unfamiliar sessions and keep 2FA enabled.
- Remove unauthorized apps and review messages, posts, friends, and account changes.
- Tell contacts to ignore suspicious messages.
- Save screenshots, dates, usernames, URLs, payment requests, notification emails, and changed-account details before deleting evidence.
- Report fraud, extortion, threats, impersonation, or intimate-image abuse to Snapchat and appropriate authorities.

Can someone hack Snapchat with only a username?
A username alone does not give lawful access. Anyone promising access from only a username is likely selling a scam or attempting unauthorized access.

Does 2FA make Snapchat impossible to hack?
No. It adds a verification layer, but phishing, stolen devices, compromised email, and SIM swaps can still threaten an account.
What if someone enabled 2FA on my account?
Use the compromised-account support route and provide accurate ownership details. Do not pay a third party or share codes.
Should I pay someone to recover the account?
No. Use Snapchat’s official channels. Paid “hack back” and unlock services can steal credentials, install malware, trigger another lock, or take payment without restoring access.
