The Smeg SI2M7643B is a 60 cm black induction hob with four cooking zones and two pairs of zones that can be joined for larger cookware. Its useful flexibility comes with a specific pan-placement requirement, while its 7.2 kW rating and plug-free connection make installation a key part of the buying decision. Publicly available evidence supports a close look at its features and specifications, but not a claim that independent testing proves it beats competing hobs.
What is the Smeg SI2M7643B?
It is a 60 cm, built-in induction hob with black ceramic glass and a bevelled front edge. Smeg lists the exact black B model under EAN 8017709254964. Check the suffix and EAN on a listing: similarly named SI7643B models or other finish variants are not necessarily this appliance. Smeg’s SI2M7643B specifications give the model’s dimensions, controls and features.

MultiZone joins two adjacent induction zones so they operate as one larger cooking area. The manual’s placement condition matters: a pan spanning the pair must cover the centres of both zones. This is not an unrestricted cooking surface across the full glass top. Smeg lists each joined area as 39.2 × 19.5 cm, so compare that footprint and the zone-centre guidance with the base of any long pan or griddle you intend to use.

The hob also detects cookware dimensions automatically. That may help it adapt to different pan sizes, but it does not remove the MultiZone placement requirement. Smeg lists the GRILLPLATE, a 410 × 240 mm induction-compatible griddle, as an optional accessory; the specifications do not say it is included.
Controls and everyday functions
Front-mounted Multi Slider touch controls provide 14 power levels. The manufacturer lists pan detection, automatic setting according to pan dimensions, timers, a minute minder, residual-time indication, child and control locks, overheat and overflow shutdown, Eco-Heat, Eco-Off and Auto-Vent.

Timers, lock and hood link
The manual describes a countdown timer for a selected zone (00–99 minutes), a minute minder, and a count-up elapsed-time function. Eco-Off turns a zone off before its countdown sounds, making use of residual heat. Auto-Vent is an infrared communication feature for a compatible hood; it should not be assumed to work with every extractor hood.

Smeg’s manual says cookware can produce crackling, whistling, humming, clicking, hissing or buzzing depending on its construction, the power level and fan operation; it does not identify those sounds alone as a malfunction. The hob also indicates residual time, a useful reminder that a cooking zone may remain hot after it is switched off.

Fit, electrical supply and installation
The listed appliance outline is 600 × 510 × 49 mm, while the worktop opening is 490 × 560 mm. Confirm the opening and the underside space against the manual’s diagrams before ordering; matching the nominal 60 cm width alone does not establish that the hob will fit. Smeg’s manual also specifies ventilation and clearance conditions. It notes that a drawer beneath the hob can warm stored items during cooking.
The 7.2 kW rating and the fact that no plug is supplied make electrical compatibility a serious pre-purchase check. Smeg shows single-phase and two-phase connection diagrams, but the nominal rating alone cannot tell you whether an existing circuit is adequate. Have a qualified installer assess the site wiring, the applicable connection option and local electrical requirements, and install the hob to the manual.

What do independent reviews establish?
CHOICE Australia has a model-specific Smeg SI2M7643B review page. It lists test categories including cooking performance, ease of use, low- and high-heat results, wok performance, turn-down and boil time. The numerical results and CHOICE Expert Rating are restricted to members, so the public page does not establish a score, recommendation or ranking. It says the model was tested in 2023 or earlier.
That makes the available public evidence useful for verifying that the model appeared in a testing database, but insufficient for an evidence-based performance comparison with another hob. When comparing alternatives, look for accessible results from the same testing organization and test generation, especially for boil time, heat control and ease of use.

- PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Energy figure: what 183.9 Wh/kg means
Smeg’s manual reports 183.9 Wh/kg for the hob and each cooking area in its product-information section referencing EU Regulation 66/2014. This is a standardized product-information figure, not a prediction of a household’s electricity bill or an estimate of the energy used in a particular cooking session.
Availability and buying checks
Availability evidence is regional. CHOICE marks its Australian listing as discontinued, and Smeg Hungary’s page marks the model discontinued and out of stock. These notices do not prove the hob is unavailable everywhere; they do mean that a listing may be residual stock and that local availability should be confirmed. CHOICE displays A$1,990, but that is a page price snapshot, not a current or universal price.
- Confirm the listing is the black SI2M7643B, ideally checking EAN 8017709254964.
- Check current stock, local warranty, service support and returns with the seller.
- Match the worktop cut-out and ventilation space to Smeg’s manual.
- Get the electrical connection assessed for the installation site.
- If you plan to use large cookware, check its base against the MultiZone dimensions and placement diagram.
Verdict: who should consider it?
The SI2M7643B is most compelling on paper for someone who wants a 60 cm induction hob with four equal zones, joined cooking areas, slider controls and a broad set of timers and safety functions. Its MultiZone layout offers a practical option for longer cookware, provided the pan covers both zone centres. The main trade-offs are the need to verify fit and electrical installation carefully, plus uncertain local availability. Since the public CHOICE page does not reveal its test results, buyers should not treat its listing as proof of a particular performance level.
