The Smeg SHW181X60 is a 60 cm stainless-steel wall-mounted T-shape rangehood, but the available public review information is not enough to judge how well it performs in independent testing. CHOICE marks it discontinued and does not publicly show its expert or test scores. What can be assessed is its published specification and whether its dimensions and installation options suit your kitchen.
What the SHW181X60 offers
Smeg’s specification sheet describes a wall-mounted canopy hood measuring 600 mm wide, 450 mm deep and up to 1180 mm high. It lists maximum airflow of 750 m³/h under IEC 61591 and a noise range of 59–66 dBA under IEC 60704-3. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified performance results available in the public CHOICE material. Controls and lighting
The sheet lists three speeds and an intensive setting, two 2.5 W LED lights, and a five-minute delay-stop function. It also specifies a two-year parts-and-labour warranty; confirm the terms applicable to your market and purchase date.
Will it fit your installation?
The model can be installed either ducted to atmosphere or in recirculating mode. For ducted installation, the specification calls for 150 mm diameter ducting. The route and outlet arrangements matter as well as the diameter, so check the kitchen layout and installation instructions before committing to the hood.

CHOICE lists a mounting height of 650–700 mm above the stove. Treat that as the listing’s guidance, not a substitute for checking the requirements that apply to your actual cooktop, local regulations and appliance instructions. CHOICE product listing
Ducted or recirculating?
- Ducted: Choose this route if the kitchen can accommodate a suitable 150 mm duct to an external outlet. Confirm the duct path and outlet with a qualified installer.
- Recirculating: This is an alternative where external ducting is not used. CHOICE lists one carbon filter, model 8999113, for recirculating use, alongside a metal anti-grease filter. Check the part’s compatibility and availability before ordering.
What is—and is not—known about review performance?
CHOICE labels the SHW181X60 discontinued. Its public page does not reveal the expert rating or performance, ease-of-use and noise test scores, which are member-only. Those inaccessible results cannot support a conclusion that the hood tested either well or poorly. The available independent listing identifies the model and provides some public product information, but it is not enough to establish its comparative test performance.

- Confirm whether ducting or recirculation suits your kitchen, and whether the required 150 mm duct route is feasible for ducted use.
- Check mounting clearance against the instructions for your cooktop and applicable local requirements.
- For recirculation, verify that filter 8999113 is compatible with the specific unit and can still be obtained.
- Compare current alternatives on airflow, noise figures and their measurement standards, dimensions, filter availability, warranty terms and accessible independent testing. Do not compare headline numbers without checking the conditions and standards behind them.
