That single-session result does not establish how the shares performed over the following days. The stock began trading after the Paramount–Skydance merger closed, replacing legacy Paramount shares under the deal’s conversion terms.
What happened on PSKY’s first trading day?
Nasdaq identified August 7, 2025, as the first trading date for Paramount Skydance Corporation Class B common stock, ticker PSKY. The merger closed before the market opened that day. Reuters reported a closing price of $11.74, up $0.10, or 1%, for the first session. Nasdaq’s corporate-action notice and Reuters’ August 7 report support those details.

The reported close is a one-day figure, not a multi-day performance record. The available reporting here does not establish the opening price, intraday high or low, trading volume, or closing prices for the next sessions. So it cannot substantiate a claim that the new stock “struggled” or declined during its first several days. Anyone asking whether PSKY was down should specify the trading date and compare that session’s data with the prior close.
Why PSKY was not simply the old Paramount stock under a new name
The merger created a combined company and a new publicly traded Class B security. Under the transaction, legacy Paramount Global Class A and Class B shares were cancelled and retired; holders received cash or shares of the combined company according to the merger terms and any elections. The conversion was not identical for every holder or share class.
#1 Best Overall
Nasdaq’s notice says Paramount Global Class B holders were entitled to one PSKY Class B share per held share, subject to election, and separately specifies terms for Class A holders. Paramount Global’s Form 8-K filed with the SEC describes the cancellations and consideration. It also reports that NAI and its subsidiaries held all Class A voting shares after closing, while Class B ownership included former Paramount holders, PIPE investors, and former Skydance owners.
The same filing reports a $6.0 billion aggregate purchase price for 400 million Class B shares in the PIPE financing, less an approximately $29 million discount, at a stated price of $15 per share, plus warrants for certain investors. Those are disclosed financing terms; they are not, by themselves, a conclusion about the stock’s fair value or a prediction of its market price.

What the media-business backdrop can—and cannot—explain
Paramount entered the merger amid pressure on traditional television. Reuters described declining linear-TV business as audiences shifted toward streaming and reported nearly $6 billion in cable-asset write-downs. That is relevant context for the combined company’s business risks, but it does not prove why PSKY moved on its debut or on any later session.
The company has also described plans and targets for the combined business, including a target of at least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years. These are management’s stated goals, not achieved savings or guarantees; see the Paramount investor-relations site. Neither a target nor the broader industry backdrop should be treated as a direct explanation for an individual day’s share-price change without evidence linking it to that move.

In a Form 8-K dated October 2, 2026, the issuer said it intended to transfer its listing from Nasdaq to the New York Stock Exchange and change the ticker from PSKY to SKYD on or about October 6. That filing states an intention and expected date; it does not, by itself, confirm the transition was completed. Check a current exchange or issuer listing before relying on either ticker for present-day trading.

How to interpret claims that “Skydance stock is down”
- Identify the security and date. The debut was Paramount Skydance Class B stock, PSKY, on August 7, 2025; legacy PARA/PARAA shares were cancelled and converted under merger terms.
- Separate the first session from later performance. The reported debut close was up 1%. A claim about subsequent days needs a dated price series covering those sessions.
- Do not infer a cause from background conditions. Linear-TV pressure, streaming competition, financing terms, and company targets are context, not proof of what drove a specific day’s trading.
- Verify the current symbol. The October 2026 filing announced a planned ticker and exchange change, so confirm current listing details from a live primary source.
