Discovery. That deal changed the company’s scale and business mix, so comparisons based on the pre-acquisition Paramount Skydance or its former ticker do not describe today’s company. To compare SKYD with other media stocks, start with business mix and reporting periods, then examine operating performance, debt, valuation and whether management’s integration plans are being delivered.
What does “Skydance stock” mean now?
As of October 13, 2026, the relevant public company is Skydance Corporation. The company announced that it completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, and that its Class B shares would begin trading that day on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker SKYD. Warner Bros. Discovery shares ceased trading that day. These identity and listing details come from Skydance Corporation’s October 6 announcement.

The combined business spans two major film studios, two global streaming services, television and cable networks, CBS News and CNN, sports properties, and a substantial programming library. That mix makes a single “media stock” comparison less informative than a comparison by business line. A studio’s economics, a streaming service’s subscriber trends and a cable network’s cash generation are different questions, even when they sit within one corporate group.
Investors looking at older articles or financial data should check the company name, ticker, share class and date before using a figure. A pre-October 6 analysis describes a materially smaller company, and the financial information available for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 predates the acquisition close.

Which stocks are useful comparables?
There is no single perfect public-company twin for Skydance. The March 2026 definitive merger proxy organized selected public comparables into business categories, including diversified companies, studios, U.S. and international linear networks, and direct-to-consumer streaming businesses. It named Disney and Paramount Skydance among diversified companies, Lionsgate Studios as a studio company, and Netflix and Roku among direct-to-consumer companies. Other selections included Fox and AMC Entertainment.
Use those names as a starting list for research, not as a ranking or a claim that the companies are interchangeable. A conglomerate-wide comparison can conceal more than it reveals if the companies earn revenue from different sources or report segments differently.
| Comparison group | Examples named in the March 2026 proxy | What to examine | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diversified media | Disney; Paramount Skydance (the pre-acquisition company) | Segment mix, operating income or loss, cash generation, debt and the contribution of each major business | The proxy’s company and market data predate the WBD close; its Paramount Skydance reference is not a current SKYD comparison. |
| Film studio | Lionsgate Studios | Studio revenue and operating results, film output, content-related economics and the effect of release timing | A studio-focused business does not reproduce Skydance’s combination of streaming, networks, news and sports. |
| Direct-to-consumer streaming | Netflix; Roku | Streaming revenue and operating results, subscriber trends where disclosed, and cash generation | Streaming businesses can have different models and reporting boundaries; do not assume the same revenue or cost structure. |
| Linear networks | Fox; AMC Entertainment were included among selections in another proxy analysis | Network-segment performance and cash generation, while distinguishing the particular businesses being compared | These companies are not a substitute for comparing Skydance’s entire portfolio, and the proxy’s categories do not make every selection a direct peer. |
The proxy itself cautioned that no selected company was identical to the subject company and that peer comparisons require judgment. Its categories are useful for deciding what to compare, but not for declaring that one company should trade at another’s valuation.

Separate segment performance from the corporate total
Begin by mapping each company’s disclosed businesses into comparable buckets: studio and filmed entertainment, broadcast and cable networks, direct-to-consumer streaming, sports, news, and other operations. Then compare like with like at the segment level where reporting permits. If one company reports a combined segment and another separates the same activities, flag the mismatch rather than treating the numbers as directly equivalent.

For each relevant segment, review revenue and operating income or loss together. Revenue alone shows scale, not whether a business is profitable or improving. Operating margin—operating income divided by segment revenue—can help describe profitability, but it is only meaningful when the companies use sufficiently similar definitions and the periods match. Keep company-reported metrics distinct from adjusted or estimated measures.
Look at direction, not just one period
A single quarter can be affected by release timing, programming schedules or other changes in a media company’s portfolio. Compare the same fiscal period across companies and, where possible, several periods on a consistent basis. Track whether revenue, operating results and cash generation are improving or deteriorating, and identify which business line is driving the change.
For streaming, include subscriber trends only where the company discloses them, and read them alongside revenue and operating results. A subscriber figure by itself does not establish how much revenue each subscriber generates or what it costs to serve them. For studios, interpret reported results in light of the period covered and the business mix; do not infer that a single strong or weak release-period result defines the whole operation.

Keep historical, estimated and pro forma figures apart
Use labels that tell readers what a figure represents: reported historical results, a company-defined adjusted measure, an analyst estimate, or a pro forma combination. Do not blend these into one trend line without explaining the change in basis. If a company has acquired or sold businesses, make sure the figures cover comparable operations or state plainly where they do not.

Why the reporting dates matter for Skydance
Skydance’s 2025 reporting includes predecessor and successor periods around the August 7, 2025 Skydance transaction. Those periods should not be combined and described as one ordinary, like-for-like year without explaining the transaction break. The company’s Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2025 provides historical financing context, but its figures need to be read with that reporting change in mind.
The latest quarterly filing identified for this comparison is Skydance’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. It predates the October acquisition close; it cannot establish the combined company’s actual post-close operating results or capitalization. The September 2026 SEC-filed pro forma exhibit combines historical information for Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery under specified assumed transaction dates. It is an illustrative presentation, not reported post-close performance, and the filing warns that actual results may differ materially and that pro forma results should not be relied on as indicators of future performance.
Therefore, do not call a pre-close quarterly result a result of the enlarged company, and do not treat a pro forma figure as though the combined business had actually reported it. When post-close reported results become available, compare them with peers using the same period and accounting basis wherever possible.
Debt, liquidity and the capital structure
Equity market value alone is not enough to compare companies with different debt loads. A company’s share price multiplied by its relevant share count gives an equity value; enterprise value adds debt, preferred equity and noncontrolling interests, then subtracts cash and certain unconsolidated assets. This is the general approach described in the March 2026 proxy. For a practical comparison, use consistent definitions and a valuation date that matches the share prices and financial data.

Review debt and cash alongside interest expense and cash generation. Debt can make two companies with similar equity values economically different: a larger debt burden affects the resources available to fund operations and investment. Also check share classes, warrants, dilution and noncontrolling interests, because the share count used in a market-capitalization or enterprise-value calculation affects the result. Avoid comparing a diluted equity value for one company with a basic share count for another.
The company’s 2025 Form 10-K describes a $6.0 billion PIPE investment at $15.00 per share and warrants with an initial $30.50 exercise price, subject to customary anti-dilution adjustments and a five-year term. These are historical financing terms, not a current quote or a current valuation measure. Use current, consistently dated market data and the company’s latest applicable filings for any live calculation; the historical terms alone do not establish present-day share count, debt, market capitalization or enterprise value.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing a valuation measure
Only compare multiples after the business and financial inputs are reasonably comparable. Enterprise value to revenue can provide a scale-based comparison, but it does not show whether the revenue is profitable. An enterprise-value-to-adjusted-EBITDA multiple may help compare businesses with positive, reasonably comparable earnings, but the analyst must check how adjusted EBITDA is defined and whether the periods and adjustment policies match. A multiple based on estimates is not the same as one based on reported results.

- Choose the right earnings or revenue period. Identify whether the denominator is historical, estimated or pro forma, and use the same period convention across peers.
- Build enterprise value consistently. Apply the same treatment of debt, cash, preferred equity, noncontrolling interests and other relevant items for every company.
- Check business comparability. If one company’s denominator includes businesses or adjustments that another’s does not, describe the difference or choose a segment-level comparison instead.
- Show assumptions and limits. State the source, date, period and calculation basis so a reader can see what the multiple does—and does not—measure.
The March 2026 definitive merger proxy reproduced an Allen & Company and J.P. Morgan analysis with estimated adjusted EBITDA multiples of 8.4x–10.6x for selected diversified companies, using calendar-year 2026 estimates and market reference dates before the WBD close. Those figures are historical transaction-analysis context, not current trading multiples for the enlarged Skydance. The proxy also used January 16, 2026 market-price reference dates and, for Paramount Skydance, an unaffected date of September 10, 2025. None is a post-close SKYD valuation date.

How to assess the acquisition strategy and execution
Valuation is only one part of the comparison. Skydance announced a target of at least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years. It also announced a commitment to release at least 30 theatrical films annually, each with a minimum 45-day theatrical window. Both are forward-looking company statements, not achieved results.
To evaluate delivery, compare later reported evidence with the announcement’s terms and timing. For synergies, distinguish recurring run-rate savings from one-time integration costs and identify the period to which each figure refers. A target is not the same as savings already realized, and a run-rate figure is not necessarily cash saved in the reporting period. For the film commitment, track actual annual output and whether titles receive the stated theatrical window; do not count a plan as completed output before results are reported.
Also examine what execution requires across the combined portfolio: integration of businesses, content spending, distribution economics and the effect of decisions across theatrical, streaming and network operations. These are relevant comparison areas because the company now spans those businesses; they are not proof that any projected benefit will occur. Skydance described its ambition as building a “next-generation global media and entertainment company powered by creativity and technology” in its October 6, 2026 announcement. That is the company’s stated aspiration, not evidence of performance.

- Confirm the identity and date. Verify the ticker, share class, listing and date of every quote or filing you use. For the combined company, the announced ticker is NYSE: SKYD from October 6, 2026.
- Map the business mix. Separate studio, linear network, streaming, sports, news and other operations where company disclosures allow it.
- Select peers for the question. Use a diversified-media peer for portfolio-level context, but use segment-oriented peers for a studio, streaming or network question. Treat the March 2026 proxy list as historical guidance on categories, not a current peer ranking.
- Align accounting periods. Use the same fiscal periods and reporting basis. Explicitly identify the 2025 predecessor/successor break and the pre-close nature of Skydance’s June 2026 quarterly filing.
- Compare operating quality. Review segment revenue, operating income or loss, margins, disclosed subscriber trends and cash generation, noting differences in reporting definitions.
- Reconcile capital structure. Compare debt, cash, interest expense, share classes, dilution, warrants and noncontrolling interests before interpreting equity values or multiples.
- Calculate valuation from dated inputs. Use same-date market prices and share counts, then calculate enterprise value consistently. Keep reported, estimated and pro forma multiples separate.
- Monitor execution. Track integration costs, synergy realization, content investment and evidence against the company’s film output and theatrical-window commitments.
What investors can and cannot conclude from the available figures
The documented transaction terms, company announcements and proxy analysis provide context for the comparison, but they do not establish a current stock price, market capitalization, post-close share count, debt balance or enterprise value for Skydance. Those measures are volatile and require a fresh, timestamped check against current market data and applicable company filings.
Likewise, the available pre-close 10-Q and illustrative pro forma exhibit cannot answer how the combined company is actually performing after the acquisition. An investor can build a sound comparison framework now, but should wait for relevant post-close reported results before treating historical or illustrative figures as a current operating baseline. Skydance’s investor-relations events and webcasts page lists Q2 2026 earnings and acquisition materials, useful for locating the company’s dated filings and announcements.
Bottom line
Compare Skydance with other media and entertainment stocks by asking the same question of each company: what businesses does it own, what do those businesses earn, how is the enterprise financed, and what dated evidence supports the valuation? For SKYD, the October 2026 acquisition makes period alignment especially important: pre-close reports, 2025 predecessor and successor periods, proxy-era multiples and pro forma combinations each describe different things. Use diversified peers for broad context, segment peers for operating comparisons, and treat company targets as execution milestones to verify—not as results already delivered.
