The new race has a practical mobility advantage on the Horde path—a reported 10% run-speed effect plus a 10-second downward glide—and an Alliance racial focused on health and mana regeneration instead. Those bonuses can reduce travel or recovery time, but no measured, apples-to-apples route comparison exists for Skyborne versus Human, Orc, Undead, Dwarf, Night Elf, Tauren, or Troll.
Skyborne begins on Zephras Isle, follows a dedicated level 1–12 opening route, and can belong to either the Windshaper Horde or High Order Alliance. Access is tied to specific paid Forever editions, and every racial number, class list, price, and leveling recommendation should be treated as time-sensitive because the available information comes from beta-era material.

What Skyborne changes in Forever
Skyborne is Forever’s new playable race. Unlike a race added only to one faction, it spans both the Windshaper Horde and the High Order Alliance. Every Skyborne character starts on Zephras Isle, a floating island with its own opening sequence rather than a reused starting zone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe opening zone is described as covering levels 1 through 12. That matters for leveling comparisons: the first dozen levels are a self-contained route whose quest density, travel distances, enemy placement, and objective order are different from the established openings used by returning races. A new route can be efficient, but it can also be slower while players are still learning where objectives, flight points, vendors, and hand-in points are located.

Skyborne therefore combines three separate decisions:
- Which faction path to take: Windshaper Horde or High Order Alliance.
- Which class to pair with that path.
- Whether the new racial tools are worth paying for and learning an unfamiliar route.
It is better to evaluate those choices separately than to label the entire race “fast” or “slow.”
Skyborne racials currently reported for beta
The following abilities are transcribed from a dated guide. The same guide warns that beta values can change, while a race reference says Blizzard has not published exact final Forever racial values. Treat these as reported beta details, not guaranteed launch specifications.

|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Skyborne characters | Glide downward for 10 seconds | Can shorten or simplify descents and reduce some terrain detours; it is not described as flight or a permanent speed increase. |
| Skysight | Windshaper Horde | +10% run speed | May reduce time spent moving between open-world objectives. The source does not provide a measured total time saved. |
| Read Ley Line | High Order Alliance | +100% health and mana regeneration | Can reduce eating and drinking downtime for classes that regularly lose health or mana. The effect is regeneration, not extra damage or movement. |
| Wind Blessed | Skyborne characters | +1% melee, ranged, and spell haste | A small always-on throughput increase that may improve combat pace, although no leveling test isolates its effect. |
| Elemental Insight | Skyborne characters | +5% damage against elementals | Useful only when targets are elementals; its value depends on how many such enemies a route contains. |
Two qualifications are important. First, the figures above are beta reports, not a final Blizzard specification. Second, a racial bonus applies to the character, not to the route itself: a 10% run-speed effect helps only while the character is moving, while elemental damage helps only against the relevant enemy type.
Can Skyborne play both factions?
Yes. Skyborne is described as spanning the Windshaper Horde and High Order Alliance. The faction choice changes the reported racial package and the available class list, so “Skyborne” is not one identical leveling experience.
Windshaper Horde
The Horde path is the movement-oriented option. Skysight is reported as granting 10% run speed, and the dated class list includes Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, and Horde-only Shaman. If your priority is minimizing travel friction, this is the Skyborne configuration with the clearest direct benefit.
High Order Alliance
The Alliance path replaces the movement emphasis with Read Ley Line, reported as doubling health and mana regeneration. The class list includes Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, and Alliance-only Mage. That profile can be attractive for a class that frequently pauses to eat or drink, even though it does not directly accelerate running between quests.

Because the list comes from beta-era documentation, verify the character-creation screen and current patch notes before committing to a class-specific plan.
How much does mobility matter while leveling?
Movement is one of the largest hidden components of an open-world leveling route. Travel time includes running from a quest hub to objectives, crossing uneven terrain, returning for turn-ins, and detouring around cliffs or impassable areas. A short glide can help with elevation changes, while a run-speed effect applies across ordinary ground movement.
Walk on Air should be understood narrowly. The reported ability lets the character glide downward for 10 seconds. It does not establish sustained aerial travel, a mount replacement, or the ability to climb. Its best use is situational: dropping from a high ledge, taking a direct line to a lower objective, or avoiding a winding path. If the route is mostly flat, the glide may have little impact.
Skysight has a broader theoretical effect because ordinary travel occurs repeatedly. However, a 10% run-speed increase does not equal a 10% reduction in total leveling time. Combat, quest reading, respawns, inventory management, queue waits, and time spent learning the zone remain unchanged. The actual gain depends on how much of a run consists of movement and whether the player avoids backtracking.

Read Ley Line addresses a different source of delay. Doubling health and mana regeneration may let a character begin the next pull sooner, but the benefit varies by class, build, food and drink availability, incoming damage, and play style. A self-sufficient melee character may gain less than a mana-dependent caster who normally pauses after every encounter.
What can be compared with returning races?
Returning races retain familiar identities and receive updated openings, but the available evidence does not provide final numerical racial values or measured route times for Human, Orc, Undead, Dwarf, Night Elf, Tauren, or Troll. That prevents a defensible fastest-to-level ranking.
| Race or group | Movement and travel | Downtime reduction | Class/faction information relevant here | Route familiarity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Horde | 10-second downward glide; reported +10% run speed | Not stated as a Horde racial benefit | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, and Shaman reported | New Zephras Isle route; familiarity is limited |
| Skyborne Alliance | 10-second downward glide; no Alliance run-speed bonus reported | Reported +100% health and mana regeneration | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, and Mage reported | New Zephras Isle route; familiarity is limited |

The table shows why a simple ranking would be misleading. Skyborne has documented movement and regeneration concepts, while the comparison races have route familiarity but no comparable figures established here. Familiarity itself can be a major advantage for an experienced player who already knows every quest turn-in and shortcut.

Is Skyborne the fastest race to level?
There is no reliable answer yet. The strongest supported conclusion is that Horde Skyborne has the most obvious travel advantage, Alliance Skyborne has the most obvious regeneration advantage, and neither has been measured against complete returning-race routes.
A valid speed claim would need the same player skill, class, equipment assumptions, quest completion standard, server conditions, and route objective across multiple races. It would also need final racial values rather than beta reports. The available race reference explicitly treats early Skyborne speed-leveling advice as a first pass because no veteran has memorized the new island route.
That uncertainty works in both directions. A new route could contain compact quest hubs and fewer detours than an old route, allowing Skyborne to perform well even before players optimize it. Conversely, an experienced player can move quickly through a familiar opening while a first-time Skyborne player loses time reading objectives, searching for NPCs, or missing a shortcut. Until measured runs exist, “fastest” is an unproven label.
Choosing between the two Skyborne paths
Choose Windshaper Horde when travel is your main concern
- You value a reported 10% run-speed effect during ordinary ground travel.
- You plan to play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, or the Horde-only Shaman.
- Your route contains substantial open-world movement and relatively little downtime.
- You are comfortable accepting beta uncertainty around the exact percentage.
Choose High Order Alliance when recovery time is your main concern
- You expect frequent health or mana recovery between pulls.
- You plan to play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, or the Alliance-only Mage.
- You prefer regeneration utility over a reported movement bonus.
- You want the Alliance faction or the Mage option regardless of theoretical speed.
The glide and haste effects are reported for Skyborne generally, so both paths retain those tools. Elemental Insight is similarly conditional: it can matter in an elemental-heavy quest segment and do little elsewhere.
Class-specific leveling considerations
Warrior
Warrior is available on both paths. A Horde Warrior would pair the reported run-speed effect with Wind Blessed’s 1% melee haste, while an Alliance Warrior would trade the movement bonus for faster health regeneration. Which is better depends on whether travel or post-fight recovery is the larger interruption in your routine.

Hunter is also shared. Because a Hunter can fight while moving and often spends time crossing outdoor terrain, the Horde movement profile may be appealing. That is a reasoning-based fit, not a measured result; the available material does not report a Hunter time trial.
Rogue
Rogue can use either faction path. A Rogue that avoids much incoming damage may receive less practical value from doubled regeneration than a caster would, making the Horde travel effect a plausible preference. Stealth routing and combat decisions still matter more than a small racial percentage in many situations.

Druid
Druid is shared by both factions. The choice is again between movement convenience and regeneration utility. Skyborne’s interaction with any specific Druid form or movement ability is not established, so do not assume additive or multiplicative stacking.
Shaman
Shaman is reported as Horde-only for Skyborne. If Shaman is the non-negotiable class, the faction decision is already made; evaluate the race against other available Shaman combinations rather than comparing the two Skyborne paths.
Recommended Free Tools
Mage
Mage is reported as Alliance-only for Skyborne. Read Ley Line’s regeneration profile may be relevant to a mana-using leveling routine, but no test quantifies the reduction in drinking time. Choose it for the class and faction first, then treat the racial as a supporting benefit.
Why route familiarity can beat a racial bonus
Leveling speed is a route problem as much as a character-sheet problem. A player who knows when to accept overlapping quests, which objectives can be completed together, where an NPC relocates, and when to abandon a low-value detour can save more time than a modest passive bonus.
Skyborne’s Zephras Isle route is new. Even if its geometry is efficient, the first runs will include navigation mistakes. Returning races have updated openings, but their basic flow is more familiar to players who have leveled there before. This creates two legitimate use cases:
- First character or exploration run: Skyborne offers a distinct opening and new movement tools; optimize for learning and enjoyment rather than a claimed record.
- Repeat speed run: A returning race may be competitive because the player already knows the route, while Skyborne’s advantage may emerge only after its island path is mapped and practiced.
Do not compare a polished route guide for a returning race with an unpracticed Skyborne run and treat the result as a racial test. The route knowledge is a separate variable.

A practical Skyborne leveling plan
- Select faction and class together. Confirm the current character-creation restrictions. Horde offers the reported movement racial and Shaman; Alliance offers the reported regeneration racial and Mage.
- Learn the Zephras Isle layout before optimizing. On the first pass, note quest hubs, vendors, flight or transport points, elite objectives, and locations where the 10-second glide can bypass a descent.
- Group objectives by geography. Accept quests that point toward the same area, finish nearby objectives in one loop, and return only when multiple turn-ins are ready.
- Use Walk on Air deliberately. Treat it as a downward route shortcut. Do not jump simply because the ability exists; confirm where you will land and whether the destination is safe.
- Track downtime separately from travel. Record how often you eat, drink, bandage, or wait for health and mana. This reveals whether Read Ley Line is helping more than a movement bonus would.
- Exploit Elemental Insight only where relevant. If a quest area contains few elementals, the 5% conditional damage effect should not dictate your entire route.
- Keep combat moving. Wind Blessed is reported as 1% melee, ranged, and spell haste. It is a small throughput effect, so avoid risky pulls that create deaths or long recovery periods in pursuit of marginal gains.
- Reassess at level 12. The dedicated Zephras Isle opening ends around level 12 in the dated guide. Compare your actual travel and downtime notes with your goals before adopting a long-term leveling route.
How to evaluate speed claims responsibly
When someone publishes a “fastest race” result, check the conditions before accepting it. A useful report should identify the patch or beta build, faction, class, starting level, endpoint, quest completion rules, group assistance, heirlooms or equivalent gear, rested status, deaths, and whether the player already knew the route.

For your own comparison, use the same class where possible, repeat each route more than once, and record separate times for travel, combat, recovery, and navigation mistakes. A single run cannot distinguish a racial effect from player familiarity or favorable quest spawns.
Also check whether a claimed percentage describes a racial value or total time. A 10% run-speed effect is a character statistic; it is not evidence that the character reaches level 12 in 10% less time. Converting one into the other without a measured movement share is incorrect.
Access, edition requirements, and price volatility
Reported access requirements list three Forever purchase options:
| Edition | Reported price | What the report establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | $29.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | $59.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | $79.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access |
These prices and availability are volatile. They should be verified on the current purchase page for your region before you buy. The available information does not establish taxes, regional currency conversion, upgrade pricing, expiration dates, or whether access changes between beta and launch. Do not purchase an edition solely because a beta racial appears strong; the values may change.
Important beta-era limitations
- Exact final Skyborne racial values have not been published in the available material.
- The class and faction lists come from a dated guide and may change.
- The 10% run-speed, 100% regeneration, 1% haste, and 5% elemental-damage figures are reported beta numbers.
- No measured total leveling time is supplied for Skyborne or the returning races.
- No veteran route consensus exists yet for the new Zephras Isle opening.
- Pack prices and availability can change by date and region.
Blizzard Entertainment was quoted by TechRadar on October 11, 2026: “We have no plans to add races from WoW’s expansions at this time.” That statement frames Forever’s current race direction, but it does not establish a Skyborne speed ranking or guarantee that today’s beta details are permanent.
Skyborne decision checklist
- Do you want the new Zephras Isle story and route, or the predictability of a returning opening?
- Is your preferred class available on the faction you selected?
- Would travel time or health and mana recovery be the larger source of downtime for your build?
- Are you comfortable with beta values that may be adjusted?
- Can you verify the current edition price and access terms in your region?
- Are you judging a route from repeatable measurements rather than one first-time run?
If the answers favor movement, the Windshaper Horde version is the logical Skyborne experiment. If they favor recovery or the Alliance-only Mage, High Order Alliance is the better fit. If your only goal is the absolute fastest level time, wait for final values and measured route comparisons rather than paying for an unproven advantage.
