Skyborne are a neutral race with five class options in each faction. Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are available to both factions. Horde Skyborne, called Windshapers, can also choose Shaman; Alliance Skyborne, called High-Order Skyborne, can also choose Mage.
The shared racials are a 10-second controlled glide, 1% Haste for spellcasting, melee and ranged attacks, and 5% increased damage against Elementals. Your faction adds either a movement-speed active (Horde) or a health-and-mana regeneration active (Alliance). Creating a Skyborne requires the World of Warcraft: Forever Heroic Pack or a higher special edition.

Skyborne class options at a glance
Skyborne do not belong permanently to one faction. You choose Horde or Alliance during character creation, and that choice determines the race variant and one additional class. Each faction has four shared classes plus one exclusive class.

| Horde — Windshaper | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid | Shaman | Elemental totems, utility and a Horde-oriented identity |
| Alliance — High-Order Skyborne | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid | Mage | Ranged arcane damage, Mage utility and an Alliance-oriented identity |
Blizzard’s official class tables support this five-class-per-faction structure. The practical implication is simple: if you want Shaman, choose Horde; if you want Mage, choose Alliance. A player who wants Warrior, Hunter, Rogue or Druid should instead decide by faction identity and the faction-specific racial active.

What Skyborne neutrality means
Neutrality describes the race’s availability, not a third playable faction. You still create a Horde or Alliance character, use that faction’s cities and systems, and receive that faction’s unique Skyborne ability.
Horde Windshapers
Horde Skyborne are known as Windshapers. Their exclusive class is Shaman, making Horde the only route to a Skyborne character with Shaman’s elemental focus and utility. The Horde racial active, Skysight, is also movement-oriented, which can suit gathering, travel, outdoor questing and situations where repositioning matters.
Alliance High-Order Skyborne
Alliance Skyborne are called the High Order. Their exclusive class is Mage, so Alliance is required for a Skyborne ranged arcane character. The Alliance active, Read Ley Line, is regeneration-oriented and can be more attractive when recovering health or mana between encounters is more useful than a temporary speed increase.
Shared-class players
Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid are not faction-locked for Skyborne. Choose one of these if the class matters more to you than the exclusive options. Blizzard frames class choice around the role a hero takes in the world: damage, healing, protection or a combination of roles. Your racial bonuses then provide small, broadly useful advantages rather than changing the class’s fundamental role.

Skyborne racial abilities explained
The following effects are the values reported by Wowhead and Icy Veins for the available beta-era information. Final tuning can change before or after launch.
| Ability | Type | Reported effect | What it means in play |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Active | Controlled downward glide for 10 seconds | Reduces fall risk and helps with vertical travel, but it is a glide rather than unrestricted flight. |
| Wind Blessed | Passive | 1% increased Haste for spellcasting, melee and ranged attacks | A small, always-on throughput benefit that can help every Skyborne class. |
| Elemental Insight | Passive | 5% increased damage against Elementals | Highly valuable in encounters containing Elemental enemies and irrelevant against targets that are not Elementals. |
| Skysight | Horde active | Attempts to draw power from an elemental convergence; Wowhead records 10% movement and mounted-movement speed for 30 seconds without a convergence, or 15 minutes when one is found. | A travel and positioning tool whose duration depends on whether the required convergence is present. |
| Read Ley Line | Alliance active | Attempts to tap a nearby ley line; Wowhead records 100% health and mana regeneration for 15 seconds without a ley line, or 15 minutes when one is found. | A recovery tool that can reduce downtime after combat or resource-heavy activity. |
Walk on Air
Walk on Air gives you controlled downward movement for 10 seconds. It is best understood as a safety and traversal ability: you can descend from elevated terrain more deliberately, bridge gaps that would otherwise cause fall damage and adjust your route in open-world content. It does not turn the character into a permanently flying mount, and it does not replace normal movement abilities during combat.
Wind Blessed
Wind Blessed supplies 1% Haste to all three broad attack and casting categories named in the descriptions: spells, melee attacks and ranged attacks. Because it is passive, there is no activation window to manage. The value is modest, but it applies regardless of whether you choose a damage, tanking, healing or hybrid-oriented class.
Elemental Insight
Elemental Insight increases damage against Elementals by 5%. This is a target-type bonus, not a universal damage increase. Its value therefore depends on the zone, quest, dungeon or encounter. It can be noticeable when Elementals are common, while providing no benefit against humanoids, beasts or other non-Elemental targets.

The faction actives and the beta-era discrepancy
Skysight and Read Ley Line are described differently by the two major class guides. Wowhead gives the detailed values shown in the table: 10% movement and mounted-movement speed for Skysight, and complete health-and-mana regeneration for Read Ley Line, with different durations depending on whether a convergence or ley line is found. Icy Veins’ summary table instead lists shorter 10% movement-speed and 10% regeneration values. That conflict means you should verify the tooltip and live-game values when Forever’s final tuning is available. Do not choose a faction on an assumed percentage alone while the abilities remain subject to beta changes.
Choosing a Skyborne class by playstyle
Warrior
Warrior is the straightforward choice if you want a durable martial character and prefer to decide your role through equipment, talents or specialization rather than through a magical theme. A Skyborne Warrior receives the shared Haste, glide and Elemental bonuses but no class-specific racial interaction is established in the available descriptions. Choose Horde or Alliance according to faction preference and the utility active you value.
Hunter
Hunter suits players who want ranged physical damage and a strong open-world identity. Walk on Air can make uneven terrain easier to navigate, while Wind Blessed applies to ranged attacks. The 5% Elemental bonus is useful only when your targets meet that classification, so it should be treated as situational rather than a permanent Hunter damage multiplier.

Rogue is the choice for a stealth-focused melee character. The shared 1% Haste applies to melee attacks, and the glide can help with approach routes or escapes in outdoor areas. Neither faction active changes the Rogue’s core stealth gameplay; the decision is primarily between the Horde movement tool and the Alliance regeneration tool.

- ELF: DRUID/ROGUE includes 3 weapons, 2 interchangeable armor pieces, extra head and display base

Druid
Druid offers the broadest mixed-role identity among the shared classes. Blizzard describes class choices in terms of damage, healing, protection and combinations of those roles, and Druid is the natural Skyborne option when you want that flexibility. Since both factions can choose it, select Windshaper or High Order based on the active ability and the faction environment you prefer.
Shaman — Horde only
Shaman is exclusive to Horde Skyborne. Pick it when elemental magic, totems and Shaman utility are more important to you than access to Mage. The class aligns thematically with the Windshaper identity and with the race’s Elemental-focused bonuses, although Elemental Insight still depends on fighting Elemental targets and is not a universal Shaman damage increase.
Mage — Alliance only
Mage is exclusive to Alliance Skyborne. It is the option for players who want ranged arcane damage and Mage utility while retaining the Skyborne identity. The High-Order theme is explicitly associated with arcane focus, so Alliance is the required choice for this combination.
Horde or Alliance Skyborne: a practical decision framework
Use this order of priorities rather than trying to find a single universally best faction:
Best Value
- IDEAL COLLECTIBLE SIZE - At approximately 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) tall, this vinyl mini figurine complements other collectable merchandise and fits perfectly in your display case or on your desk.
- PREMIUM VINYL MATERIAL - Made from high-quality, durable vinyl, this collectible is built to last and withstand daily wear, ensuring long-lasting enjoyment for fans and collectors alike.

- LEADING POP CULTURE BRAND - Trust in the expertise of Funko, the premier creator of pop culture merchandise that includes vinyl figures, action toys, plush, apparel, board games, and more.
- Lock the exclusive class first. Choose Horde if you want Shaman; choose Alliance if you want Mage.
- If you want a shared class, compare the active utility. Horde’s Skysight is movement-focused. Alliance’s Read Ley Line is recovery-focused.
- Consider your normal content. Outdoor travelers, gatherers and players who frequently reposition may prefer a movement effect. Players who spend more time recovering after fights or managing mana may prefer regeneration.
- Use lore and social considerations as tie-breakers. Faction story, friends, guilds and preferred hubs affect your experience more consistently than a 1% Haste racial.
- Treat the Elemental bonus as encounter-dependent. Do not select a faction solely because 5% Elemental damage sounds like a permanent advantage; the passive is shared by both factions and only applies to Elemental targets.
| If your priority is… | Most direct choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Shaman | Horde Windshaper | Shaman is Horde-exclusive. |
| Skyborne Mage | Alliance High Order | Mage is Alliance-exclusive. |
| Shared class plus faster travel utility | Horde Windshaper | Skysight is the movement-oriented active according to Wowhead’s detailed description. |
| Shared class plus recovery utility | Alliance High Order | Read Ley Line is the regeneration-oriented active according to Wowhead’s detailed description. |
| Best lore fit for arcane exiles | Alliance High Order | The High Order is associated with the arcane-focused branch of the Skyborne story. |
| Best lore fit for elemental themes | Horde Windshaper | Windshapers represent the elemental-focused branch. |
How to unlock and create a Skyborne
Skyborne creation is tied to a paid World of Warcraft: Forever special edition. Wowhead reported that the Skyborne Heroic Pack cost $29.99/€29.99 in its update dated September 17, 2026. That is a region-specific listed price from that date, not a guarantee that the price will remain unchanged.
A Heroic Pack or a higher Forever special edition is required to create the race. The available information does not establish that a lower edition, a subscription alone or a separate in-game achievement unlocks Skyborne access.
- Purchase a World of Warcraft: Forever edition that is at least the Heroic Pack through the official account or game-store channel.
- Confirm that the entitlement is attached to the account you will use to play. Account, region and platform restrictions can affect when a purchased entitlement appears.
- Open character creation after the entitlement is active and select Skyborne.
- Choose Horde for the Windshaper variant or Alliance for the High-Order variant.
- Select the class. The class list should contain Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid for either faction, plus Shaman on Horde or Mage on Alliance.
- Read the current in-game racial tooltips before finalizing the character, because beta values for the faction actives may differ from the guide values.
Skyborne lore and the two identities
Warcraft Forever describes the Skyborne as Highborne exiles who made a pact with the wind spirits of Skywall. Their story begins on Zephras Isle, establishing the race as a displaced people whose survival is tied to air and elemental forces.

Icy Veins adds historical context by linking them to the Shen’drallar rebellion against Prince Tortheldrin and the flight from Eldre’Thalas. After that exile, the group divides into two cultural directions. The arcane-focused survivors become the High Order, while the elemental-focused survivors become the Windshapers. Those identities explain why Mage is associated with Alliance Skyborne and Shaman with Horde Skyborne without changing the four classes shared by both sides.
What may change before launch
Skyborne information is drawn from beta-era material, and racial tuning can change. The most important unresolved point is the exact strength and duration of Skysight and Read Ley Line: Wowhead’s detailed descriptions and Icy Veins’ shorter table do not match. Blizzard’s final tooltips and class tables should take precedence once the race is live.
The stable planning facts are the class split, the shared Warrior/Hunter/Rogue/Druid choices, the Horde-only Shaman, the Alliance-only Mage, the shared Walk on Air, Wind Blessed and Elemental Insight abilities, and the Heroic Pack-or-higher access requirement. Recheck the live character-creation screen and racial tooltips before making a purchase or committing to a main character.
