If your Skullcandy Hesh Evo will not connect, the manufacturer’s fix is to remove the old Bluetooth entry, reset pairing on the headphones, then pair Hesh Evo again. Forget the device first, hold the main and volume-down buttons together for three seconds, wait for the blue/red pairing flash, and select Hesh Evo from your source device’s Bluetooth list. The steps below also explain what each light and voice prompt means, which computers and consoles are supported, and when continued troubleshooting should become a warranty or hardware-support issue.
The correct Hesh Evo reset and pairing sequence
Use this order when Hesh Evo is listed as disconnected, refuses to connect, or does not appear during a Bluetooth scan. The old pairing record must be removed before you reset the headphones; doing the button sequence alone may leave the source device trying to use stale pairing information.

- Forget Hesh Evo on the source device. Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, laptop, MP3 player, or other device you are trying to use. In the paired-device list, choose Hesh Evo and select the device’s command to remove, forget, or unpair it. The wording varies by operating system.
- Reset the headphones. With the headphones available, press and hold the main button and the volume-down button at the same time for 3 seconds. Skullcandy describes the instruction this way: “First, remove your headphones from your device’s Bluetooth paired list. Now, press and hold the main button and volume down button for 3 seconds.”
- Watch and listen for the reset confirmation. The LEDs flash purple first. A voice prompt says “Disconnected”. The headphones then enter pairing mode, shown by blue/red flashing and a “Pairing” prompt.
- Scan again. Turn Bluetooth back on if you switched it off, open the available-device list, and wait for Hesh Evo to appear. On Android, the relevant command may be labeled + Pair New Device.
- Select only Hesh Evo. Tap or click the entry named Hesh Evo. Accept a Pair or OK confirmation if the source device displays one.
- Confirm the connection. A voice prompt saying “connected” indicates that the Bluetooth connection succeeded.
If the purple flash, “Disconnected,” blue/red pairing flash, and “Pairing” prompt do not occur, do not move on to repeated scans. Start the forget-and-reset sequence again and keep the headphones close to the source device while it scans.

What the Hesh Evo lights and voice prompts tell you
| Signal | Meaning in the reset flow | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Purple LED flash | The headphones have accepted the button reset sequence. | Continue waiting for pairing mode. |
| “Disconnected” voice prompt | The previous Bluetooth connection has been cleared from the headphones. | Keep the source device’s Bluetooth screen open. |
| Blue/red flashing | Hesh Evo is advertising itself for a new Bluetooth connection. | Scan for the device and select the entry named Hesh Evo. |
| “Pairing” voice prompt | The headphones are ready to be selected by a source device. | Complete the Pair or OK confirmation on the source device. |
| “connected” voice prompt | The Bluetooth pairing has completed. | If you hear no audio, check the source device’s selected output separately. |
The sequence is useful because it separates three different states that are often confused: clearing the old connection, entering discoverable pairing mode, and completing a new connection. A device that is merely showing an old Hesh Evo entry is not necessarily in pairing mode.

If Hesh Evo is not showing in the Bluetooth list
When a scan returns no Hesh Evo entry, the most important checkpoint is the blue/red pairing flash. The headphones should be in that state before the source device scans. A scan performed while the headphones are only disconnected, rather than actively pairing, may not show the model.
Repeat the complete sequence
- Remove every saved Hesh Evo entry from the source device’s paired list.
- Hold the main and volume-down buttons together for three seconds.
- Wait through the purple flash and the “Disconnected” prompt.
- Do not scan until the blue/red lights and “Pairing” prompt appear.
- Run a fresh Bluetooth scan and select Hesh Evo.
Keep the first retry close
Skullcandy lists a range of 30+ feet (10+ meters), while cautioning that actual experience varies with the environment. For a pairing retry, place the headphones close to the phone, tablet, or computer. This removes distance as a variable; once the connection is established, you can test normal listening distance.
Check the name you select
The official Hesh Evo instructions direct you to choose the device entry named Hesh Evo. Do not select a similarly named item belonging to another headset or speaker. The Hesh Evo support instructions also do not direct you to pair through the Skullcandy App.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy Hesh Evo says “disconnected”
“Disconnected” is a status prompt in the reset process, not proof that the headphones have failed. During a successful reset, Skullcandy says the headphones announce “Disconnected” and then move into pairing mode. The next confirmation you need is the blue/red flash, the “Pairing” prompt, and finally the “connected” announcement.

If the headphones remain disconnected after you select Hesh Evo, remove the old entry again and perform the entire sequence rather than repeatedly tapping the previous saved device. A saved record can represent an earlier pairing attempt; it does not guarantee that the headphones are currently advertising a new connection.
After a source device reports that Hesh Evo is connected, audio may still be routed elsewhere. The manufacturer’s Hesh Evo page confirms Bluetooth compatibility but does not document operating-system-specific audio-output menus. On a computer or mobile device, use that system’s own sound or output control to choose Hesh Evo if the connection is present but playback comes from built-in speakers or another device.
Pairing Hesh Evo with a laptop or desktop computer
Skullcandy says Hesh Evo can connect to a laptop and to any other device that has a Bluetooth connection. The pairing portion is the same as for a phone: forget the old Hesh Evo record, complete the three-second button reset, wait for pairing mode, and select Hesh Evo from the computer’s Bluetooth device list.
When the computer says it is paired but you hear no sound
- Confirm that the computer shows Hesh Evo as connected rather than merely remembered or saved.
- Open the computer’s sound settings and inspect the current output device.
- Choose Hesh Evo as the output if the operating system lists it separately from the built-in speakers.
- Play a short test sound. If Hesh Evo drops back to disconnected, repeat the manufacturer’s forget-and-reset sequence.
The exact menu names and audio-output steps depend on the computer’s operating system and are not specified on the researched Hesh Evo support page. The reliable model-specific part is the Bluetooth reset and pairing sequence above.

Phones, tablets, MP3 players and other Bluetooth sources
Hesh Evo is described as compatible with phones, tablets, MP3 players, laptops, and other Bluetooth devices. Each source must maintain its own paired-device record, so forgetting Hesh Evo on one phone does not remove it from a tablet or computer. If several devices have previously used the headphones, perform the reset with the device you are actively troubleshooting, then pair that device first.
On Android, Skullcandy’s instructions refer to the + Pair New Device command. Other operating systems may use labels such as Add device, Pair new device, or Available devices. The important checkpoints are that Bluetooth is enabled, the source is scanning, and the headphones are visibly in blue/red pairing mode.
Can Hesh Evo connect to a game console?
| Device type | Support stated for Hesh Evo | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | Listed as supported by Skullcandy. | Use the Switch’s Bluetooth-audio pairing controls and select Hesh Evo while the headphones are in pairing mode. |
| Xbox One | Listed as unsupported by Skullcandy. | A failed direct Bluetooth connection is expected under the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance; resetting the headphones does not change that platform limitation. |
| PlayStation 4 | Listed as unsupported by Skullcandy. | Do not treat the lack of a direct Hesh Evo Bluetooth connection as evidence that the reset failed. |
Console support is platform-specific. A headset that pairs with a phone or laptop can still be unsuitable for direct Bluetooth use on a console that Skullcandy lists as unsupported. The support information does not establish a universal workaround, adapter compatibility, or console audio-output procedure, so those should not be assumed.

Skullcandy lists Hesh Evo’s Bluetooth range as 30+ feet (10+ meters) and notes that the environment affects real-world performance. Walls, the placement of the source device, and other nearby radio activity can make a connection less stable than an unobstructed short-range test.

Use a controlled distance test
- Place the source device and Hesh Evo close together.
- Complete the reset and pairing steps if the connection is already unreliable.
- Play audio for several minutes at close range.
- Increase the distance gradually and note where interruptions begin.
A connection that is stable nearby but unreliable farther away points to environmental or range conditions rather than proving a hardware defect. If dropouts occur immediately beside the source after a fresh pairing, continue with the reset sequence and test a different Bluetooth source. The manufacturer’s page does not provide an interference diagnostic, a guaranteed range under specified conditions, or a failure-rate threshold.
The Skullcandy App is not part of Hesh Evo pairing
Do not look for Hesh Evo in the Skullcandy App as an alternative pairing route. Skullcandy’s Hesh Evo page explicitly states, “No, the Hesh Evo will no pair with the Skullcandy App.” The wording is reproduced exactly as displayed on that page. For this model, use the source device’s normal Bluetooth settings and the device entry named Hesh Evo.
This distinction prevents a common misdiagnosis: an app that does not list Hesh Evo does not necessarily indicate a Bluetooth fault. App compatibility and ordinary Bluetooth pairing are separate questions.
When the reset does not solve the problem
The reset is the manufacturer’s prescribed way to clear pairing information, but Skullcandy does not promise that it fixes every connection problem. The support information does not provide battery-health diagnostics, a guaranteed remedy for failed buttons, radio interference, damaged ports, worn batteries, or other hardware faults.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Document the exact failure state
- No lights or voice prompts: the documented reset confirmation is not occurring, so customer support should assess the unit rather than treating repeated scans as a solution.
- Reset works but no source can see Hesh Evo: note whether the blue/red pairing flash appears and whether a second Bluetooth source detects the headphones.
- Pairing succeeds but audio never routes to the headphones: verify the computer or mobile device’s selected audio output, because Bluetooth connection and audio-output selection are separate steps.
- Only one platform fails: compare that platform with a phone or laptop, and check the console compatibility list before assuming the headphones are defective.
- Immediate dropouts at close range: record the source device, distance, and whether the problem remains after a fresh reset.
Use the warranty path when appropriate
Skullcandy states that manufacturer defects are covered by a 1-Year Limited Warranty and recommends contacting customer service before filing a claim. Keep the model name, purchase information, and a concise description of the observed lights, voice prompts, source devices tested, and reset result available when you contact support. A warranty does not guarantee coverage for every type of damage, so customer service must determine eligibility.
A practical decision tree
| What you observe | Next action |
|---|---|
| Hesh Evo appears in the saved list but will not connect | Forget the entry, reset with the main and volume-down buttons for three seconds, wait for pairing mode, and pair again. |
| No Hesh Evo entry appears during scanning | Repeat the forget-and-reset sequence and begin scanning only after the blue/red pairing flash and “Pairing” prompt. |
| The source says connected but playback uses another speaker | Choose Hesh Evo in the source device’s audio-output controls; those controls are operating-system-specific. |
| Connection fails on Xbox One or PS4 | Skullcandy lists those platforms as unsupported for Hesh Evo direct Bluetooth use. |
| Connection is unstable at a distance | Retry close to the source, then test distance gradually; Skullcandy lists 30+ feet (10+ meters) while warning that conditions vary. |
| The Skullcandy App cannot find Hesh Evo | Use ordinary Bluetooth settings; Skullcandy says Hesh Evo will not pair with the app. |
| There are no reset lights or prompts, or every nearby source fails after a correct reset | Contact Skullcandy customer service and ask about the 1-Year Limited Warranty for manufacturer defects. |
What Hesh Evo’s Bluetooth specification means here
Skullcandy identifies Hesh Evo as using Bluetooth 5.0. That version label does not remove the need to clear an old pairing record, does not make unsupported consoles compatible, and does not guarantee a particular range in every room. The manufacturer’s stated compatibility covers phones, tablets, MP3 players, laptops, Nintendo Switch, and other Bluetooth-capable devices, subject to the platform exceptions listed above.
For a normal connection problem, the most informative test is therefore procedural: can the headphones produce the documented reset and pairing signals, can a nearby compatible source see Hesh Evo, and does that source report the connected prompt? Those observations distinguish stale pairing data from source-device output settings, platform incompatibility, environmental range issues, and a possible hardware fault without promising more than the manufacturer’s information establishes.
