Choose the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 if adjustable, physical-feeling bass is your priority. Choose the Sony WH-1000XM5 if effective noise cancellation, travel and office isolation, and a cleaner everyday presentation matter more. WH-1000XM5: isolation and an all-purpose listen
Sony positions the WH-1000XM5 as an active-noise-canceling and ambient-sound headset. Its controls and software are built around switching between reducing outside sound and allowing selected environmental sound through. That makes it easier to use in an office, on public transport or while walking than a headphone whose main selling point is maximum bass movement.
Do not interpret the Sony’s more balanced role as proof that it is automatically “better sounding.” A listener who wants a strong physical kick may prefer Crusher ANC 2 even if the Sony is more restrained. Noise cancellation: which blocks more outside sound?
Independent testing favors Sony for broadband isolation
RTINGS’ review, updated February 10, 2025 and retested July 2, 2026, describes the WH-1000XM5 as having “outstanding noise isolation performance, handily tackling noise from the bass to the treble range.” The review specifically reports strong reduction of bus-engine noise and office chatter. That range matters: low-frequency engine rumble is usually easier for ANC to reduce than voices, keyboard noise or higher-frequency sounds, so performance across bass through treble is a meaningful advantage.
In practical terms, the Sony is the safer choice when your goal is to hear less of the world rather than simply add bass to it. On a train or plane, stronger low-frequency attenuation can make music sound clearer at a lower listening volume. In an office, reducing speech and general activity can make concentration easier even when some sound inevitably remains.
Crusher ANC 2 reduces noise, but isolation is not its strength
SoundGuys finds that the Crusher ANC 2’s comfortable ear pads “do not isolate you from outside sounds particularly well.” It also says that, with ANC enabled, “you’ll still hear some of your surroundings.” Those findings do not mean the Crusher has no ANC; they define its limitation relative to the Sony’s stronger isolation results.
That trade-off may be acceptable if you want awareness of announcements, conversations or nearby activity while keeping a bass-heavy soundtrack. It is less suitable when you are buying specifically to suppress a loud commute, a busy open-plan office or aircraft engine noise.

Skullcandy rates Crusher ANC 2 for 50 to 60 hours of playback, depending on whether active noise cancellation is on or off. The same manufacturer states that a 10-minute charge provides four hours of playback. These are manufacturer figures, not an independent endurance test, and the range should be read as a best-case difference tied to ANC state rather than a guaranteed runtime in every listening condition.

The short-charge figure is useful when you discover an empty battery before a commute. It does not mean every 10-minute top-up will deliver exactly four hours if listening conditions, volume or battery age differ from the stated test conditions.
What is established for the Sony
Sony’s official WH-1000XM5 specification page documents battery specifications as well as ambient-sound and noise-canceling functions. The supplied evidence does not include one region-specific runtime number to quote here, so it would be misleading to present an unqualified figure. Check the specification page for the market where you will buy before comparing endurance directly with Skullcandy’s 50–60-hour range.

At 332 g, Crusher ANC 2 is a substantial headset. Weight is not a comfort verdict by itself, because head shape, clamp, pad pressure and how long you wear the headphones all matter, but it is a relevant consideration for multi-hour travel. Evaluate the Sony using its fit, pad seal and controls in the region-specific product listing or a retailer’s return policy rather than assuming that a lighter or heavier chassis will suit everyone.
For either model, a poor seal can undermine both bass and ANC. Glasses, hair, ear shape and pad position can create gaps. Before judging sound, center each ear cup, adjust the headband, and confirm that the pads sit around—not on top of—the ears.

Those modes address a different need from Crusher’s sensory bass: deciding how much of your surroundings reaches your ears. If you regularly switch between isolation on a train and awareness while walking, that control is central to the Sony’s appeal.

If you commute by train, bus or plane
Buy the WH-1000XM5 when reducing environmental sound is the deciding factor. RTINGS’ testing supports stronger isolation from low-frequency rumble through higher-frequency noise, while SoundGuys reports that Crusher ANC 2 leaves more surroundings audible even with ANC enabled.
If you work in a shared office
The Sony is the lower-risk choice because RTINGS specifically reports strong mitigation of office chatter. Crusher ANC 2 can still be enjoyable if you value bass and do not need silence, but it should not be selected on the assumption that its ANC equals the Sony’s.
If you want awareness while listening
