Skullcandy Crusher 720 Not Charging: Troubleshooting Steps That Work

If your Skullcandy Crusher 720 will not charge, start with the external causes Skullcandy documents: use a known-good USB-C-to-USB-C cable and USB-C power source, make sure the plug is fully seated, check the port for visible debris, and wait a few seconds for charging to begin. Then use the status light and allow the headset its full charging time before treating the problem as a hardware failure.

The Crusher 720 charges through USB-C. A six-second Joystick Center Button reset is for Bluetooth pairing and connection problems, not for repairing a battery that will not accept power.

What the Crusher 720 should do when it is charging

The Crusher 720 uses USB-C charging, and Skullcandy states that standard USB-C chargers and cables are compatible. The included cable is USB-C to USB-C, so that is the simplest starting point. A cable that fits physically is not automatically a cable you know is working; testing with a cable and power source that charge another USB-C device helps separate a power problem from a headset problem.

LED indication Battery range represented What it tells you
Pulsing amber 0–40% The headset is in the lower part of its charging range.
Pulsing white 41–90% The headset is charging or reporting a mid-to-high charge level.
Solid white 91–100% The battery is at the top end of the charging range.

Skullcandy specifies approximately two hours for a complete 1%–100% charge. Its product-help specification also says that a 10-minute Rapid Charge session provides more than four hours of playback, and lists up to 65 hours of battery life under its stated conditions. Those figures describe the product specification, not a guarantee that every old battery, cable, charger or listening setup will produce the same result.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Before troubleshooting: identify the symptom

“Not charging” can describe several different failures. Identify which one you have before changing multiple things at once.

  • No LED at all: The headset shows no charging indication when the cable is connected.
  • A wrong or unexpected LED state: The light appears, but it does not match the battery level you expect or does not change after charging.
  • The headset works but will not connect: Audio or controls may be affected by Bluetooth pairing rather than by charging.
  • It charges only when the plug is held at an angle: This points to a connection, cable or port issue that needs careful inspection rather than force.
  • It stops before reaching a full charge: The cable, power source, port contact or battery condition may be involved.

Keep the symptom in mind as you follow the sequence. A Bluetooth-only problem should not be treated as evidence that the battery is dead, while a completely dark LED requires power and connection checks first.

Step-by-step charging checks

1. Test a known-good USB-C cable and power source

Connect the Crusher 720 with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable that you already know can charge another device. Use a USB-C power source that is also known to work. The manufacturer says the headset supports standard USB-C chargers and cables, so you do not need a special proprietary charger.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make the test simple: use one cable, one power source and the headset, without adapters or hubs that add another possible failure point. If a second known-good cable produces the expected LED behavior, the original cable is the likely cause. If neither cable produces a response, continue with the physical connection checks rather than repeatedly swapping accessories.

2. Seat the connector completely

Insert the USB-C plug straight into the headset until it is flush and securely inserted. Skullcandy’s Crusher troubleshooting guidance specifically calls for a connector that is fully seated. Do not leave the plug partly inserted because a connector that is close to the correct position can still fail to make reliable contact.

Place the headset on a stable, flat surface while testing. This prevents the cable from being pulled sideways by the headset’s weight and makes it easier to see whether the plug remains fully inserted. Do not twist, bend or force the connector to make the light appear; an intermittent angle-dependent connection is useful diagnostic information, not a safe charging technique.

3. Inspect the USB-C port for visible debris

Look into the port under good lighting. Lint or other debris can prevent the plug from reaching the contacts, and Skullcandy lists a blocked port as a cause to check. Only clear material that can be removed safely without forcing an object into the port. If debris is packed inside, or if the port looks damaged, stop rather than pushing a tool against the contacts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After the visual check, reconnect the cable normally. A port that looks clean but still accepts the plug only loosely, sits crooked or shows damage should be treated as a physical fault. The documented checks do not require opening the earcup or removing internal parts.

4. Wait briefly for charging to start

Leave the cable connected for a few seconds before deciding that the headset has ignored it. Skullcandy notes that charging can take a few seconds to begin in its Crusher troubleshooting guidance. Keep the headset still during this interval and watch for the LED rather than repeatedly unplugging and reconnecting it.

5. Read the LED instead of guessing

Use the LED state as the headset’s charging feedback. Pulsing amber corresponds to 0–40%, pulsing white to 41–90%, and solid white to 91–100%. If the light appears and changes as the headset charges, the basic power path is working even if the battery was initially very low.

If the LED is present but you expected a different color, allow the headset to charge long enough for its reported range to change. A single observation immediately after connection cannot establish that the battery is failing.

6. Allow a complete charging window

Give the headset about two hours when evaluating a full charge, because Skullcandy specifies approximately two hours from 1% to 100%. Start that period after confirming that the plug is fully seated and that the LED has had time to respond. Disconnecting after only a few minutes can make a normal slow start look like a failed battery.

If the headset reaches the solid-white state within that window, the charging system has delivered the expected result. If it remains at the same indication, never lights, or stops charging despite a known-good cable and power source, move to the support path instead of attempting an undocumented internal repair.

When a reset helps—and when it does not

The Crusher 720 has a documented reset for pairing or connection symptoms. It clears Bluetooth pairings; it is not described as a battery reset and should not be presented as a fix for a missing charging light.

Use the reset for pairing or connection failures

  1. Remove the Crusher 720 from the phone or other playback device’s Bluetooth list.
  2. Turn Bluetooth off on that device.
  3. Power on the headset.
  4. Hold the Joystick Center Button for six seconds.
  5. Wait for the alternating blue and amber flashes that indicate the documented reset sequence.
  6. Turn Bluetooth back on and pair the headset again.

This procedure is appropriate when the headset powers on but will not connect, reconnects incorrectly or shows a pairing-related symptom. It does not replace the USB-C checks, the charging wait period or customer-service diagnosis for a headset that will not accept power.

Choose the remedy that matches the symptom

Remedy Evidence level Risk Cost consideration Best symptom match
Try a known-good USB-C-to-USB-C cable and USB-C source Manufacturer-documented compatibility External check; low risk Usually uses equipment already available; a replacement cable may be needed No LED, intermittent charging or uncertain cable
Fully seat the connector and charge on a flat surface Manufacturer troubleshooting guidance External check; low risk when no force is used No added cost Loose plug or charging that stops when the headset moves
Inspect for visible port debris Manufacturer troubleshooting guidance Low risk only if debris can be removed without forcing anything into the port No added cost No LED or plug that cannot reach a normal seated position
Wait for the LED and the full charging period Manufacturer charging specifications No physical intervention No added cost Charging appears delayed or the battery is very low
Six-second Joystick Center Button reset Manufacturer-documented for pairing and connection problems Low risk, but it clears Bluetooth pairings No added cost Headset powers on but has Bluetooth symptoms
Open the headset or replace its internal battery Not documented in the cited Crusher 720 guidance Higher risk of damage or injury Unknown parts and labor cost Not a documented first-line remedy
Contact customer service and ask about warranty eligibility Manufacturer support path Lowest risk after external checks fail Depends on eligibility and support outcome Persistent no-charge response or suspected hardware failure

The official material documents external checks, charging behavior and the Bluetooth reset. It does not document opening the headset or replacing the internal battery. That distinction matters: an online suggestion to dismantle the earcup may create damage without addressing the original fault.

Diagnose common outcomes

No light after connecting a known-good setup

Confirm the power source is active, test the second known-good cable, reseat the plug and inspect the port for visible debris. Wait several seconds after the final connection. If the LED remains completely dark after those checks, the problem is no longer explained by an untested cable, an incompletely inserted connector or a delayed start. Record what you tried and contact Skullcandy customer service.

The light appears, but charging does not seem to advance

Leave the headset connected for the approximately two-hour full-charge window and monitor whether the indication progresses through the documented ranges. Keep it stationary so the connector is not disturbed. If the indication never changes with two known-good USB-C setups, provide that detail to support; it is more useful than reporting only that the headset “charges slowly.”

The headset charges, but a phone will not connect

Separate the two issues. A visible charging indication means you should troubleshoot Bluetooth rather than repeat port cleaning. Use the six-second Joystick Center Button reset only after removing the old Bluetooth entry and turning Bluetooth off, then pair again after the alternating blue and amber flashes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The plug or port feels loose

Do not hold the cable at an angle or force it deeper. Recheck whether debris is visible and whether the connector reaches a flush position. A port that remains loose or physically damaged needs manufacturer support; the documented guidance does not authorize an internal repair.

What not to do

  • Do not assume a missing light is fixed by a Bluetooth reset; the reset addresses pairing and connection behavior.
  • Do not push sharp objects into the USB-C port to remove material that will not come out safely.
  • Do not bend the cable or hold it in a strained position to maintain contact.
  • Do not judge the battery after only a short connection when Skullcandy specifies approximately two hours for a full charge.
  • Do not open the headset or replace the internal battery based on an undocumented procedure.
  • Do not discard the cable before testing another known-good cable and power source; the accessory itself may be the only failed component.

When to contact Skullcandy

Contact Skullcandy customer service after the documented external checks fail: a known-good USB-C-to-USB-C cable and source, a fully seated connector, a safe port inspection, the brief startup wait and the full charging window. Tell support whether the LED was absent, amber, pulsing white or solid white; which cable and power source you tested; whether the plug sat flush; and whether the headset powered on for Bluetooth use.

Skullcandy recommends customer-service contact before filing a warranty claim. The listed warranty is one year limited, so eligibility depends on the purchase date, the applicable terms and the support team’s assessment. Keep proof of purchase and avoid opening the headset before support responds, because an unauthorized internal repair can complicate diagnosis or warranty handling.

A practical decision path

  1. Start with power: connect a known-good USB-C-to-USB-C cable to a known-good USB-C source.
  2. Check the fit: make the plug flush and secure, then place the headset on a stable, flat surface.
  3. Check the port: remove only visible debris that can be cleared safely without forcing anything inside.
  4. Wait: allow a few seconds for charging to begin and observe the LED.
  5. Allow the charge: use the approximately two-hour specification when judging a full-charge attempt.
  6. Separate Bluetooth symptoms: if the headset powers on but will not connect, perform the six-second pairing reset and re-pair.
  7. Escalate: if there is still no charging response or the port appears damaged, contact Skullcandy customer service and ask about the one-year limited warranty process.

This order keeps low-cost, low-risk checks ahead of escalation and prevents a pairing procedure from being mistaken for a battery repair.
