Since October 6, 2026, Canadian customers of Skip and Instacart can reach each other’s catalogues without leaving their own app. Skip users can shop Instacart grocery and retail banners from inside Skip, and Instacart users can order from Skip’s restaurant partners from inside Instacart. The integration is reciprocal, but the two directions work differently, so the practical answer depends on which app you open and what you want to buy.
What the partnership changes
Skip and Instacart announced the integration on October 6, 2026, in a joint announcement published through Instacart’s newsroom. The companies describe it as a reciprocal app integration that began the same day. It is limited to Canada. Neither company’s announcement suggests the flows are a replacement for each company’s existing ordering experience; each adds a second category to the app you already use.
The two directions are not mirror images. Skip customers gain access to grocery and retail. Instacart customers gain access to restaurant meals. Each direction also has a different fulfilment model, which affects delivery times, substitutions and who you speak to if something goes wrong.

Ordering groceries from Skip
Grocery access is the first direction. According to the companies’ announcement, the flow runs as follows:
- Open the Skip app and tap the grocery icon.
- Browse the available Instacart retail banners shown in the grocery section.
- Select a banner. Skip redirects you to Instacart’s platform, where the live catalogue is shown.
- Build your basket and place the order on Instacart’s platform.
Because the catalogue and checkout sit on Instacart’s side, prices, stock and substitution choices come from the Instacart listing rather than from Skip. The announcement states that an Instacart shopper picks these orders in store. The shopper selects produce, checks expiry dates, offers substitutions where needed and handles fragile items.

Ordering restaurants from Instacart
The reverse direction brings Skip’s restaurant network into Instacart:
- Open the Instacart app and tap the restaurant icon.
- Choose a Skip restaurant from the available partners.
- Add items and follow the in-app checkout prompts.
- Receive the order from a Skip courier.
In this flow the order is placed and paid for inside Instacart, but the restaurant is a Skip partner and the delivery is performed by a Skip courier. If a restaurant order goes wrong, the announcement does not describe a separate support route, so check the order details screen in Instacart first.

If you are deciding whether a membership is worth it for a particular order, compare the final checkout total in each app, including service fees and tip, rather than relying on the delivery fee line alone.
The launch offer and its terms
The launch promotion was a 40% discount on an eligible Instacart-powered Skip order of $35 or more, capped at $15 off. The terms reported in the announcement are:

Instacart Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Hamburger said: “Partnering with Skip provides Instacart customers the convenience of ordering restaurant delivery through our app, and it lets us meet new Skip grocery customers right where they like to shop.”
The announcement frames the offer as “more stores, more stuff” and describes shoppers wanting “a week’s worth of groceries or their favourite restaurant meal.”
What is and is not established
The available evidence is the companies’ own dated announcement. It confirms the launch date, the two ordering flows, the fulfilment model and the published terms. It does not establish:
- Whether a given address is served. Coverage varies by city, and the figures above are national totals, not local availability.
- Service quality, delivery speed or substitution accuracy. No independent measurement of these was identified.
- Whether any promotion is active on a particular day.
Confirm availability for your address and the live terms in the relevant app before placing an order or relying on a discount.
