Full Circle says it welcomes player creativity and is building official, secure tools for broader community creation—but it has not announced what those tools will do or when they will arrive. The statement draws a boundary around mods that unlock paid cosmetics, expose gated or unreleased content, or make money from unauthorized assets. It comes as fan-made platform ReSkate draws attention for reported offline play and custom-content features.
What did Full Circle say about mods?
In an October 9, 2026 update, the studio described skateboarding as a community and creative pursuit, and said skate.’s San Vansterdam sandbox was built to let players have fun and make content. It acknowledged requests for more flexibility: “We hear you loud and clear on wanting more freedom and custom features.”

Full Circle says the boundary is crossed when mods or other tools bypass game systems to unlock paid cosmetics, release gated or unreleased content, or profit from unauthorized assets. The studio says those actions take from artists, skate brands, creators, and its development team. That is the studio’s stated rationale and policy position, not an independent legal finding.
What is ReSkate, and why is it drawing attention?
PC Gamer reported in October 2026 that ReSkate is a fan-made platform that hooks into a particular Steam version of skate. and supports offline play, custom servers, custom maps, and other assets. The outlet also reported that ReSkate does not interact with EA’s servers, and that the project’s official channels disallow mods that unlock premium cosmetics. These are reported details, not independently verified testing.
#1 Best Overall
PC Gamer reported more than 350,000 downloads in a few days, as of Tuesday in its coverage. That is a time-specific reported download count—not a count of unique users or active players, not an EA statistic, and not a current total.
The reporting also quoted ReSkate creators saying they did not intend to undermine Full Circle or replace the live game. Creator zee_x64 said, “We were just doing it for the love of the game.” Those are the creators’ reported intentions; they do not establish how every user uses the platform or settle any legal questions.

What freedom is Full Circle promising?
Full Circle says it is building “official, secure access tools” to support broader and deeper community creation. The studio says it will share more when it is ready, but the October 9 update gives no feature list or release timeline.
Recommended Free Tools
That distinction matters: the statement is a commitment to develop tools, not an announcement that tools are available or that unrestricted modding will be allowed. It also does not say whether official tools will support offline play, private servers, custom maps, or any other specific ReSkate feature.

How do the current and promised approaches differ?
| Approach | Status and reported scope | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| ReSkate | Fan-made platform; PC Gamer reported offline play, custom servers, custom maps, and other assets for a particular Steam version of skate. | PC Gamer’s coverage was not an independent technical test. Compatibility beyond the described version and broader security implications are not established here. |
| Full Circle’s official tools | The studio says it is building secure access tools for broader community creation. | No functions, supported platforms, release date, or permission for unrestricted modding has been announced. |
These are not equivalent offers: one is a reported existing fan project, while the other is a developer commitment with details still unspecified.

EA announced skate. as a free-to-download Early Access game for console and PC storefronts, with an Early Access release date of September 16, 2025. That live-service context helps explain why a community project centered on offline play and custom content has drawn notice, while also making clear why the studio distinguishes player creativity from bypassing game systems or using unauthorized assets.

- Freedom of expression - Skater XL is unique in that it doesn't have any tricks programmed into it, only control of the movement through the thumbsticks. Much like a musical instrument, the player has complete freedom, whether it be pushing to Nail a line or skating free from.

- real life iconic skating locations - In Skater XL, players can shred legendary real-world Skate spots that are home to some of the most iconic skaters and tricks in the world. The game will launch with three large maps based in California and the West coast.
- customizable characters and boards - The possibilities are endless for players to personalize their Skater XL experience. Players can customize their entire look, from their skater
- come play in the sandbox - each area is yours to explore. With the freedom of an open-environment, players will be able to push themselves, perfecting the subtle nuances of a highly technical trick or free form Skate.
Players have voiced specific wishes, including the ability to “choose any shirt color” without waiting for a rotating release, as quoted in PC Gamer’s coverage. That is an individual player comment, not a formal feature request tally or representative measure of what players want overall.
Quick Recap
What players can conclude now

- Official tools are being built, but the studio has not specified their capabilities or timing.
- ReSkate has been reported to offer offline and custom-content features, but its reported functionality should not be confused with EA-approved tools or treated as independently verified here.
