The SK hynix Platinum P41 remains a capable PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, but whether it is a good buy now depends on its current price, the exact capacity and seller, your system’s compatibility, and whether the warranty applies to your purchase. Its headline speeds are manufacturer ratings—not guaranteed results—and older independent reviews cannot establish how it ranks against SSDs released since they were published.
What the Platinum P41 is
The Platinum P41 is a single-sided M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive using SK hynix 176-layer 3D TLC NAND. SK hynix lists it in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. These specifications are manufacturer-published; they are not measurements from this review. See the SK hynix product page for product details and downloads.

Do not confuse it with the P41 Plus: the similar name refers to a different product. The P41’s published peak sequential ratings and endurance differ by capacity:

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| Capacity | Maximum sequential read | Maximum sequential write | Endurance rating |

| 2TB | Up to 7,000 MB/s | Up to 6,500 MB/s | 1,200 TBW |
These are SK hynix’s published maximum sequential speeds and endurance ratings, not guarantees of the speed a particular computer will achieve. TBW means terabytes written, a rated endurance limit rather than a prediction of how long a drive will last.
#1 Best Overall
- STORAGE CAPACITY: High-performance 1TB internal solid state drive perfect for system upgrades and enhanced storage capabilities.
- FORM FACTOR: Standard 2.5-inch design measuring 100.5 mm x 69.9 mm x 7.0 mm, compatible with most laptops and desktop computers.
- INTERFACE: SATA III connection delivering reliable data transfer with read speeds up to 560MB/s and write speeds up to 510MB/s.
- PERFORMANCE: TLC (Triple-Level Cell) NAND flash memory technology ensures consistent and dependable performance for everyday computing tasks.
- COMPATIBILITY: Internal SSD designed for seamless integration with systems supporting 2.5-inch SATA storage devices.
How fast is it in practice?
The P41’s 7,000 MB/s read ceiling and up-to-6,500 MB/s write ceiling place the 1TB and 2TB versions in the high-performance PCIe 4.0 category on paper. Actual throughput depends on the host system and workload. Sequential peak figures do not tell you how quickly a long write will proceed after any cache is exhausted, or how the drive performs on random and mixed workloads.
Tom’s Hardware, PCWorld and StorageReview published independent reviews comparing the P41 with other Gen4 SSDs in their respective test conditions. Those reviews found it competitive in the tested field, but the results are historical: Tom’s Hardware and PCWorld reviewed the 1TB drive, while StorageReview tested the 2TB model. Their findings are not a current 2026 ranking or a direct comparison with newer drives tested on the same platform.
When comparing it with an alternative, match capacity and price, and look for the same benchmark, capacity and test platform. For large transfers, seek sustained-write and cache behavior data; for everyday use, random and mixed-workload results may be more relevant than a peak sequential figure alone.

500GB
Choose this version if the lower capacity suits your storage needs and its local price makes sense. Its listed write ceiling is lower than those of the larger models, and its endurance rating is 500 TBW.
1TB
The 1TB model has the same published maximum sequential ratings as the 2TB version—up to 7,000 MB/s read and 6,500 MB/s write—and a 750 TBW rating. Compare its price per usable gigabyte with both the 500GB and 2TB listings rather than assuming the middle capacity is automatically the best value.
2TB
The 2TB model shares the 1TB model’s published speed ceilings and carries the highest listed endurance rating, 1,200 TBW. It may suit a larger game library or heavier write workload, but a higher capacity rating does not by itself make it the best purchase: check the current price and warranty eligibility for the specific listing.
Rank #2
- Capacity: 256GB

- Key Type: M Key
- Hardware Requirements: M.2 slot
- Dimension: 22mm x 80mm x 2.38m
Does it fit a PC or PS5?
The drive uses the M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe 4.0 NVMe interface. Confirm that the intended slot supports NVMe, that the host accepts a 2280 drive, and that the drive and any cooling hardware fit the available space. A PCIe 3.0 system may operate with the P41 at reduced performance, according to Windows Central; the host interface can limit throughput.
Windows Central also reports that the P41 can work in a PS5 if a heatsink is added. Its reviewed drive did not include one. A 2026 GamesRadar+ PS5 guide pairs the Platinum P41 with a separately sold Haechi heatsink. Check current console installation requirements and the dimensions and fit of the particular heatsink; the accessory is not an in-box part of the SSD, and the cited pairing does not establish universal compatibility for every configuration.
Firmware and software
SK hynix lists Drive Manager and firmware downloads for the P41’s 500GB, 1TB and 2TB versions on its product page. Follow the manufacturer’s latest instructions for your operating system and the drive’s current state. No firmware update or resulting performance change is established here.
Warranty, price and availability
SK hynix states a five-year limited warranty, subject to its terms. Its online warranty policy says coverage applies to the original purchaser and requires proof of purchase and a certificate of authenticity. It provides for repair or replacement, or, instead of either, a refund at the lower of the original purchase price or fair market value. Check the policy that applies in your region and confirm the seller’s eligibility and required documents before buying. Read SK hynix’s warranty policy.
In August 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported a user account alleging that SK hynix lacked replacement stock for a warranty claim and offered a refund. The report says the user did not provide the drive model or purchase date, so that anecdote does not establish how P41 claims generally turn out. The published warranty’s stated remedies and your own seller and purchase documentation are more useful checks.
Current US stock and prices for the P41 were not established. A South Korean SSG.COM listing showed ₩334,000 for the 2TB model when accessed, with separate promotional card terms; that dated local listing is not a US price benchmark. SK hynix’s product page also labels $379.99 for 2TB, $209.99 for 1TB and $139.99 for 500GB as launch prices, not current street prices. Compare live listings for the same capacity and region, and verify who is selling the drive.
