The most useful Siri commands at home are the ones that match accessories, rooms, and scenes you have already configured in Apple’s Home app. Ask Siri to control lights or check a lock, manage music on HomePod, or operate Apple TV playback—but the exact results depend on your setup, device, language, and region.

Siri can address configured accessories by name or location. The requests and automations available depend on which smart-home accessories you have set up in the Home app, and each accessory must be compatible with Apple Home or Matter. See Apple’s HomePod guide to controlling your home and Apple’s Siri home-control guidance.

A scene groups actions for multiple configured accessories, so one request can trigger the combination you created. Try “Set the good night scene” or “Siri, good night” if that is the name or phrase associated with your scene. Apple’s sample good night scene turns off lights, locks the front door, and lowers the temperature; your own scene will do only the actions you assigned to it. Apple’s HomePod guide explains scenes and home control.

Check home status and control accessories remotely
When the relevant accessories are set up, ask questions such as:
- “Is the front door locked?”
- “Is the living room light on?”
- “Is the garage door closed?”
To control home accessories through Siri while away, your home needs a home hub. Apple identifies HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as possible hubs; a HomePod can serve as a hub for HomeKit or Matter accessories. Some actions have extra security requirements: Apple’s cited guidance says an iPhone must be unlocked before Siri can unlock a door. Details are in Apple’s home-control support article.

Recommended Free Tools
- “Play my favorite show.”

Assigning HomePod and Apple TV to the same room in the Home app can make requests simpler because you may not need to say the room or device name. See Apple’s documented HomePod and Apple TV requests.

- “Set the volume to 50 percent.”

Room and multiroom requests depend on the HomePod speakers and setup in your home. Apple lists these and other examples in its HomePod audio guide.

- A kitchen timer: “Hey Siri, set a 12 minute pizza timer.”
- Ambient audio: “Hey Siri, play ocean sounds.”
- An announcement: “Hey Siri, intercom ‘Dinner is ready!’”
The guide also includes alarms and unit conversions. Available requests can vary with language and region; consult Apple’s HomePod guide to Siri.

Set up Siri so requests match your home
- Add accessories and name them clearly. In the Home app, add supported accessories, assign them to rooms, and use names you can say naturally. Siri uses the names and details stored there.
- Create the scenes you want to invoke. Set up the scene and its accessory actions in the Home app; Siri will not infer a custom routine from a scene name.
- Choose whether you need remote access. For away-from-home control through Siri, set up a home hub such as HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV.
- Configure personal requests if needed. On HomePod, voice recognition and Personal Content setup are needed for requests involving personal information such as messages, calendar details, or calls.
Apple notes that Siri availability, features, and commands vary by language and country or region. Saying “Siri” without “Hey” is not available everywhere. Its HomePod control guide search result identifies HomePod software 27 or later, while the setup and audio guide results identify software 26 or later; check the current Apple guide for the version and availability relevant to your device. Choose the right setup for the task
| What you want | What to check | What it enables |
|---|---|---|
| Hands-free control at home | A Siri-capable device nearby and accessories set up in the Home app | Requests for configured accessories and scenes |
| Control while away | A home hub and compatible accessories | Remote home control through Siri |
| HomePod audio or Apple TV playback | HomePod and the relevant audio or Apple TV setup | Playback, volume, room-audio, and documented TV controls |
| Home temperature or humidity readings | HomePod mini or HomePod (2nd generation) | Sensor readings; Apple says sensing is optimized for indoor conditions around 15°C to 30°C and 30% to 70% relative humidity |
Apple says HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation) include temperature and humidity sensors. Readings may be less accurate after extended high-volume audio, and sensors need time to calibrate after startup. Apple’s sensing guidance describes the stated ranges as optimized domestic indoor conditions, not a guarantee of precision outside them. See Apple’s HomePod home-control guide.
