Silent Hill: Townfall makes hiding part of its cat-and-mouse horror, but it is no guaranteed way to shake a monster. You can duck into a cabinet, closet, or locker and watch through a door crack—or use the CRTV to scout. If an enemy sees Simon enter, PlayStation says it can chase him down and pull him back out.
What the hide-and-seek joke gets right
In Townfall, hiding gives Simon Ordell a chance to evade a threat, not a promise that the creature will forget he exists. PlayStation’s guide describes breaking line of sight, using cover, and hiding in cabinets, closets, and lockers. The joke in the headline works as a description of the uneasy cat-and-mouse setup: Simon can disappear from view, but the search can still find him.

The important condition is whether the enemy sees him enter. PlayStation warns that a monster that witnesses Simon slip into a hiding place will chase him down and pull him out. The official material does not establish that every monster behaves identically, or that enemies are generally poor at searching.

KONAMI and PlayStation describe Townfall as the Silent Hill series’ first full-length game presented entirely in first person. PlayStation says its 2.35:1 aspect ratio limits the player’s view, so threats can sit outside the immediate field of vision. Listening and scanning the surroundings matter because the player cannot see everything at once.
#1 Best Overall
- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
That changes the feel of hiding: getting behind a door or into a locker is only one part of the decision. Players can peek through a crack or use the CRTV to check for danger, while sounds may help indicate what is nearby. The same restricted view that makes a hiding place useful also makes it harder to know when it is safe to leave.
How the CRTV helps you scout
Simon’s handheld CRTV tunes into unstable signals. KONAMI describes it as a tool for listening to voices; PlayStation says it can help locate nearby or roaming monsters and uncover puzzle clues. It is a way to scout, not evidence that every threat is visible or harmless while the device is in use.

- Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest
- Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface

Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto described the CRTV as replacing the series’ iconic radio. That is a design comparison, not a claim that the two devices work the same way. In Townfall, the CRTV links signal-based warning to visual scouting, while the game’s sound and limited view preserve uncertainty. Okamoto said the horror is “less about jump scares and gore, and more about tension and escalating uncertainty.” (PlayStation.Blog, September 16, 2026)
A practical way to think about hiding
The official guidance supports three factors to consider when deciding whether a hiding place might help:
Rank #3
- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- When Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to "put things in order", he meets a city lying quietly in dense fog, seemingly abandoned, yet anything but dormant
- After venturing further to understand his connection to this place and its inhabitants, he gradually discovers fragments of the past rising to the surface
- Simon must explore, evade and survive from a first-person perspective. It uses a limited arsenal of weapons and tools, including the CRTV: a portable TV to receive unstable signals
- The dodging is tension, the battles are hectic and the story-based puzzles reveal a truth that does not want to remain hidden
- Line of sight: Can Simon break the enemy’s view by ducking behind cover or moving around a corner?
- What the enemy saw: Did it witness him enter the cabinet, closet, or locker? If so, the guide warns it can pull him out.
- What you can monitor: Can he check through the door crack or use the CRTV to scout before moving again?
These are general mechanics, not a guaranteed sequence for escaping every encounter. The available official descriptions do not rank monster types or spell out a universal search pattern.
