Siege of Akanor is a Windows PC castle-defense game planned for Steam in November 2026. North Sun Games lists the release month; COGconnected reported the specific date as November 6. Its central hook is a mix of preparing castle defenses between waves and fighting enemies directly in third person.
What is Siege of Akanor?
North Sun Games describes Siege of Akanor as a medieval action game built around a repeating prepare-and-defend loop. Between attacks, you spend limited gold on choices such as recruiting troops, placing traps and barricades, reinforcing the gate, or improving your own equipment. When a wave begins, you join the battle rather than managing the defense only from a distant strategy view.

The developer lists sword combos, bow combat, dodge, guard, parry, and nine mana abilities. Combat can be on foot or mounted. The horde includes 16 enemy types, with roles such as rams, climbers, commanders, scouts, and a Warlord that appears every fifth wave. Attacks may come from multiple fronts and include siege engines such as battering rams and catapults.

Story campaign
The developer lists a six-chapter solo story following Lucian Kaelar. If you want a defined, story-led route rather than only replayable defense, this is the mode most directly aimed at that preference.
Classic and relic modes
Classic and relic modes provide wave-defense options. Battles can use a set number of waves or continue endlessly, with a leaderboard listed for endless play. Relic mode adds the end-of-wave relic selection.

Co-op and attacking side
Players can defend alone or join co-op rooms for up to four defenders. North Sun Games says rooms can be public or password-protected private rooms. The developer also lists a mode in which you play on the attacking horde’s side. These options suit different play styles, but no independent review comparison is available here.

- What if the Battle of Five Armies was lost by the Free Peoples, and Dain never became King Under the Mountain? What if the Dwarves of the Iron Hills were just the scattered survivors of their kin, fighting a strenuous battle to defend their homes? What if Dale was never rebuilt?
- When playing the War of the Ring boardgame, we assume the "historical" outcome for the Battle of Five Armies. The Fate of Erebor is a variant for War of the Ring which you play assuming the Shadow player won the Battle of Five Armies, changing the course of history drastically.
- Orcs settle in the Lonely Mountain and establish a stronghold there. Dwarves remain in the Iron Hills, but their community is far from thriving. In the wake of the lost battle, Laketown is no more, and the Kingdom of Dale is never re-established, only ruins remaining. How much can the Fate of Erebor change the course of the War of the Ring? You can find out, playing this variant.
- In this mini expansion set for the War of the Ring boardgame, you can find all you need to "adapt" the game to this possible outcome of the Battle of Five Armies.
- This is not a stand-alone game. A copy of War of the Ring (2nd Edition) is required to play.
How much does it cost?
North Sun Games lists a price of USD 8.99 and says Steam adjusts pricing by region. COGconnected reported a 15% launch discount for the first ten days; that is a dated report, not a guarantee of the offer’s current availability or terms. Check the live Steam listing for your region before buying.
What PC does it need?
The developer’s guidance specifies 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Its minimum reference targets 1080p at low quality and 75% resolution; the recommended reference targets 1080p at maximum settings. These are developer-provided targets, not independently measured performance results.
