Short answer: Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG) and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC, or GC) are not direct like-for-like businesses. SCG is a diversified industrial holding company spanning cement, chemicals, packaging, clean energy, décor, logistics and other investments. PTTGC is PTT Group’s chemicals flagship, so its earnings and strategic decisions are more directly tied to petrochemical markets, feedstock costs and global industry conditions.
SCG’s FY2025 disclosures provide a detailed set of sales, EBITDA, profit and debt figures. The PTTGC material available for this comparison is a January 2026 strategy and financing update rather than audited FY2025 statements. That means you can compare business models and risk concentration now, but you cannot responsibly declare a financial winner until matching PTTGC revenue, EBITDA, earnings, cash flow and leverage data are aligned to the same period and accounting basis.

What is the core difference between SCG and PTTGC?
The most important distinction is portfolio breadth. SCG describes itself as a holding company established in December 1913. Its business overview includes Cement and Green Solutions, SCG Chemicals (SCGC), SCG Packaging (SCGP), Cleanergy, Décor, Logistics and other investments. Cement is an important business, but it does not represent the whole group.
PTTGC describes itself as PTT Group’s chemical flagship. Its operations, capital allocation and stated strategic responses therefore sit much closer to the petrochemical value chain. The company’s January 2026 update discusses industry-wide petrochemical pressure, plant and digital efficiency, pricing tools, debt reduction and feedstock security.

In practical terms, an SCG investor is assessing a portfolio of industrial and consumer-linked activities with several demand drivers. A PTTGC investor is assessing a more concentrated chemicals proposition whose results can move sharply with product spreads, feedstock economics, energy prices, trade policy and global capacity additions.
How the two companies make money
SCG: a multi-business holding company
SCG earns revenue through several operating platforms rather than one product line. Cement and Green Solutions serves construction and infrastructure markets. SCGC supplies chemicals and petrochemical products. SCGP operates packaging businesses. Cleanergy adds energy-related activities, while Décor, Logistics and other investments broaden the group’s exposure beyond core materials.
This structure creates potential resilience because weak conditions in one activity can be partly offset by another. It also makes analysis harder. Consolidated revenue can remain large even when the profitability of a major segment deteriorates, and group-level debt may support investments across businesses with different cycles and return profiles.

PTTGC: an integrated chemicals platform
PTTGC’s identity is centered on chemicals. The January 2026 company update says the petrochemical industry and global economy faced significant challenges and describes a response built around holistic optimization, operational technology, plant efficiency, digital maintenance and pricing tools. These actions are intended to improve resilience and execution, but management intentions are not the same as demonstrated financial improvement.
PTTGC also announced a U.S. ethane-import agreement in 2025, with deliveries expected to begin in 2029. The company says the arrangement should strengthen feedstock security and flexibility without additional infrastructure investment or significant modifications to existing production systems. That is company guidance about the planned arrangement, not an independently verified operating outcome.

| SCG consolidated metric | FY2025 | FY2024 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue from sales | THB 496,925 million | THB 511,172 million | Down approximately 2.8% |
| EBITDA | THB 51,249 million | THB 53,946 million | Down approximately 5.0% |
| Profit for the year | THB 14,075 million | THB 6,342 million | Up approximately 122% |
SCG’s FY2025 EBITDA decline is the clearer operating signal: the company said EBITDA fell 5% year over year, citing restructuring and extra items, an inventory adjustment at SCGC and baht appreciation. Revenue also declined, while the reported profit figure increased substantially.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Profit requires a careful basis check. The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s 2026 disclosure of SCG’s audited FY2025 results reports profit attributable to owners of THB 14,075 million and earnings per share of THB 11.73. Separately, SCG’s investor financial overview says its FY2025 profit presentation excludes restructuring expenses and extra items totaling THB 13,307 million. Those are different presentation issues from the EBITDA discussion; do not treat the figure as an automatically comparable “adjusted” or “reported” earnings number without checking the exact statement and reconciliation being used.
SCG segment figures
SCG’s FY2025 segment disclosures show why consolidated revenue alone is insufficient. The chemical business was the largest of the three specifically quantified operating areas by sales, but its EBITDA was much lower than packaging or Cement and Green Solutions.
| SCG business | FY2025 sales | FY2025 EBITDA | FY2025 profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chemicals (SCGC) | THB 209,313 million | THB 4,166 million | Not stated in the cited segment figures |
| Packaging (SCGP) | THB 124,374 million | THB 17,226 million | Not stated in the cited segment figures |
| Cement and Green Solutions | THB 82,723 million | THB 14,373 million | THB 5,827 million |
The segment values do not add up to consolidated sales or EBITDA because SCG also reports other activities, eliminations and group-level items. They should be used to understand mix and profitability, not as a substitute for the consolidated statements.
Debt, liquidity and investment
| SCG FY2025 balance-sheet or cash-allocation item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Net debt | THB 280,259 million |
| Net debt/EBITDA | 5.5× reported; 5.1× on an adjusted basis |
| Cash under management | THB 52,447 million |
| Finance cost | THB 10,738 million |
| Capital expenditure and investment | THB 30,737 million |
The 5.5× reported and 5.1× adjusted net-debt-to-EBITDA figures indicate a balance sheet that deserves close attention. The adjusted ratio is not interchangeable with the reported ratio, and neither can be compared with PTTGC until the latter’s debt, EBITDA definition, cash treatment and reporting date are matched.

Its financing disclosures are still relevant. PTTGC says it issued USD 1.1 billion of U.S.-dollar-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures and THB 10 billion of baht-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures in 2025. The company says proceeds from the dollar issuance support a debt-reduction plan and long-term growth.
These instruments are financing context, not proof of lower leverage or stronger profitability. Subordinated perpetual debentures can affect how analysts classify debt and equity-like features, so a proper comparison requires the terms, accounting treatment, maturity profile, interest burden and total debt reconciliation from PTTGC’s audited filings.
Which company is more exposed to petrochemical-cycle risk?
PTTGC is more directly exposed because chemicals are its defining business. Petrochemical earnings can change quickly when selling prices, product spreads, feedstock costs, energy prices, freight, inventories or global capacity move against producers. A chemicals-focused group may benefit strongly when spreads improve, but the same operating leverage can work in reverse during a downturn.

Its FY2025 chemical sales of THB 209,313 million were significant within the group, and SCG specifically cited an SCGC inventory adjustment as one pressure on FY2025 performance. However, SCG’s packaging, Cement and Green Solutions, energy-related, décor, logistics and other activities mean that petrochemical weakness is diluted at the consolidated level relative to a chemicals-focused company.
Diversification does not eliminate risk. Packaging can be exposed to industrial production and consumer demand; cement and related solutions depend on construction and infrastructure activity; logistics depends on trade and freight volumes; and energy businesses face commodity, regulatory and project-execution risks. The relevant question is not whether SCG has risk, but how many independent earnings drivers it has and how those drivers behave in the same downturn.
Main risks for SCG
Economic and construction demand
SCG identifies economic uncertainty in global and domestic markets as an external challenge. Cement and Green Solutions are particularly connected to construction, infrastructure spending, property activity and industrial investment. A slowdown can reduce volumes, delay projects and intensify price competition.

Energy and raw-material volatility
SCG also identifies volatile energy movements. Energy costs affect chemicals, cement, packaging and logistics, although the timing and pass-through mechanisms differ by segment. Higher input prices are most damaging when selling prices cannot adjust quickly enough.

Trade policy and currency
Trade policies can alter export economics, customer demand, tariffs and regional competition. SCG said baht appreciation pressured FY2025 results. Currency movements can affect translated earnings, export competitiveness, imported inputs and debt service, depending on the currency mix.
Leverage, restructuring and execution
Net debt of THB 280,259 million and reported net debt/EBITDA of 5.5× make refinancing conditions, interest costs and cash generation important. Restructuring and extra items can improve a portfolio over time, but they also create near-term charges and execution risk. Investors should track whether operating cash flow and segment margins improve after the changes rather than relying on a single profit line.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Main risks for PTTGC
Petrochemical spreads and global oversupply
PTTGC’s own January 2026 update describes significant petrochemical-industry and global-economic challenges. Its earnings are likely to be more sensitive than SCG’s consolidated results to the difference between product prices and feedstock costs. New capacity, weak demand or falling spreads can pressure utilization and margins.
Feedstock availability and cost
PTTGC’s planned U.S. ethane imports are intended to improve feedstock security and flexibility, with deliveries expected from 2029. Until the arrangement is operating, the benefits remain prospective. The relevant risks include timing, logistics, market conditions, contractual terms and whether the expected cost advantage appears in realized margins.
Debt and refinancing
The 2025 subordinated perpetual debenture issues show active balance-sheet management. They do not by themselves establish that PTTGC’s leverage is high or low. Analysts need audited debt totals, cash balances, maturity walls, interest costs, covenant terms and management’s debt-reduction progress.

Operational and digital execution
Holistic optimization, plant efficiency, digital maintenance and pricing tools can reduce downtime and improve decisions, but implementation requires reliable systems, disciplined capital spending and sustained operating performance. Management’s stated actions should be tested against utilization, costs, margins and cash flow in subsequent filings.
How to compare the companies on an apples-to-apples basis
A fair comparison should be built from the same reporting period and the same accounting definitions. Use this sequence:
- Map the business mix. Separate SCG’s chemicals, packaging, cement and other activities from PTTGC’s chemical operations. Do not compare SCG’s consolidated sales with a single PTTGC segment.
- Align revenue and EBITDA. Collect revenue, EBITDA and EBITDA margin for each segment, then reconcile segment totals to consolidated results.
- Identify earnings adjustments. Record restructuring charges, inventory effects, impairments, gains, losses and other unusual items. Keep reported and adjusted earnings in separate columns.
- Normalize debt metrics. Compare gross debt, net debt, cash, lease liabilities, perpetual instruments, maturities, average interest cost and net debt/EBITDA using the same definitions.
- Examine cash generation. Operating cash flow, free cash flow, working-capital movements and maintenance versus growth capital expenditure reveal whether accounting profit is converting into liquidity.
- Stress the cycle. Test sensitivity to petrochemical spreads, feedstock, energy, construction demand, packaging volumes, freight, trade policy and currency.
- Review capital allocation. Include dividends, acquisitions, disposals, restructuring spending, debt reduction and investment commitments.
- Use a common market date. Share prices and valuation multiples must be taken on the same date. No common-date market valuation data is established here.
What the current evidence supports—and what it does not
Supported conclusion
SCG offers broader industrial diversification, while PTTGC offers more concentrated exposure to chemicals and petrochemicals. SCG’s FY2025 figures show lower sales and EBITDA than in FY2024, a higher reported profit figure under the company’s stated presentation, substantial net debt and meaningful restructuring and inventory-related effects. PTTGC’s January 2026 update shows management responding to difficult industry conditions through optimization, financing actions and a planned feedstock initiative.
Not yet supported
The available evidence does not support saying that SCG had higher or lower revenue, profit, margins, leverage, cash flow or shareholder returns than PTTGC. PTTGC’s audited FY2025 statements and a matched segment and debt schedule are required for that claim. It also does not support treating the planned ethane imports as achieved savings or treating financing issuance as proof of improved credit quality.
Questions investors should ask before choosing between them
- How much of each company’s EBITDA comes from businesses exposed to the same economic cycle?
- For SCG, can packaging, cement and other businesses offset a prolonged SCGC downturn?
- For PTTGC, what product spreads, feedstock costs and utilization rates are needed to restore sustainable margins?
- Are reported profits being supported by recurring operations or by adjustments, inventory effects and one-time items?
- How do debt maturities and interest costs look after including perpetual subordinated instruments?
- Will planned capital spending generate cash returns above the group’s funding cost?
- How sensitive are results to baht movements, trade restrictions and energy prices?
- Are dividends being funded by recurring free cash flow or by additional borrowing and asset sales?
Bottom line
SCG and PTTGC represent different risk-and-return profiles rather than interchangeable versions of the same business. SCG is the broader, more diversified industrial portfolio, but its FY2025 net debt and 5.5× reported net debt/EBITDA require disciplined balance-sheet analysis. PTTGC is the more direct petrochemical-cycle exposure; its stated optimization, debt-reduction and feedstock plans may improve resilience, but the January 2026 update does not replace audited, comparable financial statements. The strongest decision comes from matching segment economics, adjusted earnings, debt definitions, cash flow and capital allocation on the same reporting date—not from comparing one company’s complete annual figures with the other’s strategy update.
