Choose the Shure MV6 Gen 2 if you want a dynamic USB mic with Shure’s voice-focused processing and documented phone and tablet support. Choose the Elgato Wave:3 MK.2 if a condenser mic and Elgato’s Wave Link and Wave FX workflow better fit your creator setup. Neither is an established universal sound-quality winner: there is no controlled head-to-head test of these current generations.
What separates the MV6 Gen 2 from the Wave:3 MK.2?
The main choice is between two different microphone and software approaches, not a proven ranking of which sounds better. Shure identifies the MV6 Gen 2 as a dynamic, cardioid microphone. Elgato describes the Wave:3 MK.2 as a 16 mm condenser with a cardioid pattern. A mic type alone does not guarantee how well a particular voice or room will sound; placement, distance, room acoustics, gain, and processing all matter.

Which mic fits your recording and streaming workflow?
Choose the Shure MV6 Gen 2 for Shure’s voice-focused tools
Shure lists auto-level, a real-time denoiser, Digital Popper Stopper, a high-pass filter, and a 5-band EQ, with customization through MOTIV. That makes the MV6 the clearer fit if those controls and Shure’s software are what you want. In its 2026 USB microphone guide, MusicRadar praised the MV6’s simple setup, Auto-Level, and tap-to-mute, while noting that app control could be easier; its scores and impressions are editorial judgments, not lab measurements. Choose the Elgato Wave:3 MK.2 for the Wave ecosystem
The MK.2’s Wave FX Processor, Clipguard, effects integration, and Wave Link are the deciding features if you want those tools in a creator-oriented workflow. Confirm that your intended recording or streaming setup works the way you expect with Wave Link before buying on the strength of its software features.
GamesRadar’s hands-on MK.2 review found setup straightforward and liked the sound, but reported that Voice Focus sometimes cut off quick comments or laughter and only did adequately against keyboard or controller noise. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a result guaranteed in every room. GamesRadar

Check computer, phone, and console support before buying
The two mics have different documented software requirements. Shure’s listed requirements apply to its MOTIV apps; Elgato’s apply to Wave FX Processor and Wave Link. A USB-C connection by itself does not establish that every computer, mobile device, console, game, or chat app will support the same features.

What comes in the box, and what else might you need?
Both microphones include a desk stand and USB cable, so neither requires a boom arm for a basic desktop setup. Each also has a 3.5 mm headphone output for wired monitoring. Elgato includes mounting adapters; Shure describes a compatible boom arm as an optional way to free desk space. Shure Elgato

Make sure you are comparing the current generations and local prices
Shure’s current product page identifies the microphone as the MV6 Gen 2; Elgato’s current model is the Wave:3 MK.2. Elgato’s separately documented Wave:3 MK.1 is materially different: its support page lists a 17 mm electret capsule, 24-bit recording at 48 or 96 kHz, 95 dB dynamic range (115 dB with Clipguard), and maximum SPL of 120 dB (140 dB with Clipguard). Do not apply those MK.1 figures to the MK.2, whose current product page lists a 16 mm condenser capsule, 48 kHz, 110 dB dynamic range, and typical maximum SPL of 130 dBSPL at 1 kHz. Elgato MK.1 specifications Elgato MK.2
At the time of the 2026 research, Elgato’s US product page displayed $169.99, and GamesRadar reported that figure as the MK.2 launch price ($169.99 / £159.99). A comparable current official US price for the MV6 Gen 2 was not established, so this does not determine which costs less now.
